  1. As we always say, troubleshooting over the 'net is usually fruitless, but sometimes it works. You've tried connecting a different amplifier to any one of the outputs to be sure?
  2. Steve, I found I had a two-tier keyboard stand in a closet. A thin sheet of plywood supports the mixer on the "X" legs (since the legs don't get quite close enough for the mixer), and a sheet of corrugated plastic sits on the upper tier for shade. The whole thing folds nicely and the plywood and plastic sheets fit in the gator case with the M20d.
  3. Yeah, I was at first going say their levels are zero, which would have been even more confusing. Minus-infinity is unambiguous.
  4. I presume you've double-checked that the monitor and main levels are turned up on the M20d? Just worth asking... When I load a setup they're all set to 0.0dB level.
  5. With all the wifi congestion (pollution?) around, remote control---on any mixer brand---could be subject to dropouts and problems in communication. With a system that only works over wifi, I'd be really nervous. The most important question: How thoroughly do (or can) the manufacturers make the remote system bulletproof? If there's a dropout---for a few data packets or two minutes---what will happen to the sound system? I can foresee situations where one might even have to reboot a router. At that point, IP addresses change for all the connected gear. It's also risky joining an existing wifi network at a venue, since you have no idea of their network configuration or their possible intention to reboot it at any time. You certainly have to bring your own network and ensure that it's not in conflict with existing wifi transmissions.
  6. Ah, I forgot about that. I'll have to enable it again in my setup.
  7. I plan to run with Trim Tracking off. Since I'm busy playing and singing with the band, there would be no chance to rectify the situation if TT were to detect a momentary clip and reduce trim.
  8. Here is the block diagram as its own pdf file, split from the specifications document. block diagram.pdf
  9. Neat. I haven't caught you guys playing. My band is the Jukebox Heroes. http://www.jukeboxheroesband.com The block diagram for the M20d is on the Resources page, in the Specifications document: StageScape M20d Specifications
  10. A firmware update from Line6 would be nice if it addresses the wish list items some of us have asked for. QSC is already about to release their 2.0 firmware. I know these things take time, but with 1.20 a year old now, an update would be nice...
  11. I agree with Arne, which is why I cancelled my pending order for the TouchMix-16 and got the StageScape: - Saved gain settings. With our band, we've set the gains once and they don't get accidentally moved; - DSP. The TouchMix doesn't have nearly as much DSP as the StageScape; - Encoder knobs. They're easier to grab than a virtual fader.
  12. There is no "flaw" in the TouchMix. The video compares the TouchMix to the Mackie (which uses an iPad). The iPad screen supports multi-touch, which is why he can move two faders at once. The TouchMix screen is not multi-touch, so it isn't expected to be able to do the same thing. Using the iPad remote for the TouchMix, it is probably possible. But I agree that there's now competition from Mackie (who dropped their price $100) and the $1299 QSC TouchMix.
  13. This could be a problem of balanced/unbalanced cable sensing. A properly balanced signal will be 14dB louder than an unbalanced one. If you are using the unbalanced output of the HD500X, then you should use 1/4" TS plugs (standard guitar cord). If you are using the balanced output of the HD500X, then you should use XLR cables (standard mic cables). There are a few reasons I can think of for the M20d to suddenly switch from seeing a balanced to an unbalanced signal. If this happens, you get an instant 14dB drop in signal strength. 1. Your XLR connectors are flaky and one of the leads (pin 2 or 3) drops out. Bad solder joints at the ends or marginal plug pins. Often a different XLR plug will make better contact. (You didn't say whether you tried different XLR cables.) 2. Your XLR cable is damaged somewhere along its length; either the pin 2 or pin 3 lead has a break. 3. The same goes for your 1/4" cables... 4. The input jack on the M20d is not consistently sensing the balanced signal. (Less likely, but it would require a repair.) And, as Don said, you can't expect too much help over the net...
  14. Some suggested tests: - Try with a different amplifier, to eliminate one device from the equation. - Check that feedback suppression is not enabled on the drum machine channel. Could be reacting to cymbal sounds. - Try another channel in the mixer.
  15. This sounds like it could be a power issue. How do you know it was the mixer in the first place? Could have been the amp all the time. Well, technically both lines carry signal in a true balanced line. The "hot" line (generally pin 2 or the tip) runs the signal. The "cold" line (generally pin 3 or the ring) runs an inverted copy of the same signal. At the receiving end, the cold is inverted and added to the hot. The result is 2x signal level with common-mode noise and hum cancelled. If the source signal is unbalanced, you would typically ground the cold line at the input or leave it unconnected. There wouldn't be any advantage to connecting it because the source isn't balanced.
  16. Don, I found this list of things that seemed to help people with the current 8.0.2 OS. Dunno if you need to do it all, but it's worth a try. Settings>General>Accessibility>Reduce Motion turn "On" There's apparently a reset that isn't a shutdown: Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc. Other things that may work: Background app refresh (all but one app monitoring data usage!\) Keyboard predictive text Location services for most apps Cellular/mobile is NOT now set for automatic carrier selection Privacy, location, system services, cellular location setting is off Wallpaper perspective zoom is off
  17. And I presume it's 8.0.2 if that's available for your iPad model. Seems lots of people are reporting similar bad things on iPads. Betcha we'll see 8.0.3 soon.
  18. Don, I presume you have shut down and restarted your iPad? Also check for any updated apps; there could be some background tasks causing problems. Not all apps run background tasks, but some do. Updating them all is an easy experiment.
  19. "So scene change, SAVE, then to the setups page, and SAVE again. Then I have no problems." Yup, I do that by rote. I don't like doing things by rote, but that seemed to be the procedure based on what I'd read elsewhere. "If you set everything up, and then power down and back on, and don't relaod the setup or scene you want, you will likely see some effects applied to your monitors." Another rote thing. I hadn't been doing that while experimenting, but now I'll check it. We may have a chance to swap to the StageScape after Sunday afternoon's gig, just to run a few songs to prove out my settings. But we have a tech-rehearsal set for Friday to do all of this anyway.
  20. It was the advanced guide on the StageScape "resources" page. But guess what? I downloaded it again and it's perfect. Strange. I've never seen that kind of behavior before. Sorry for the false alarm, Don!
  21. Same system for me. If I copy any text and paste it anywhere else, all fonts (except the bolded words) come out as little squares. I suspect it may be an oddball font that isn't included with the MacOS or with MS Office 2011 for Mac. Here's a copy/past from page 1-1, first paragraph. Same happens anywhere else. StageScape M20d StageScape M20d
  22. Something is strange with all the fonts, at least on a Mac computer. Everything displays perfectly when I view the manual (using the Preview program), but whenever I try to copy/paste from the user guide I get lots of little block-characters. Bold text seems to copy/paste correctly; but regular text does not. Is it possible you've used some font that isn't available in the Mac? Don't do that! I've had to retype excerpts from the guide when answering questions on the forum.
  23. Paraphrased from page D-12 of the user guide: * Tap the Show Stage button in the Fader View toolbar * At the bottom of the display, tap and hold the controller strip for the channel you'd like to reposition - its image will pulsate. * Drag that controller strip to the target location; the controller strips will swap position. Repeat for others. Now when you tap Show Faders they should be in the new order.
  24. The M20d has separate Left and Right main outputs. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?
  25. The list of available setups or scenes should NOT be enabled for selection until the user taps LOAD. If I tap another setup name, then tap SAVE, this causes confusion. Does the mixer save my current setup to the one I inadvertently selected? (Luckily it does not.) For example: - I have setup "A" loaded. - I tap the Setups button - I then tap the name for setup "B." - I tap SAVE. Luckily, the mixer (properly) just saves the current setup back to setup "A." and doesn't destroy setup "B." This is a confusing user interface, completely at odds with every computer interface for load/save. One should NEVER be allowed to select another file (tap another setup name) without first indicating an intention to LOAD something. (Note that a good idea would be to dim-out all other setup names except the current loaded one. Only enable the list of available setups when the user taps LOAD.) When one taps LOAD, there should also be a warning of unsaved changes in the current setup. This same behavior applies to SCENES as well as setups. Both should be corrected. This has also been submitted to the Line6 Ideascale site.
