  1. I thought it would be odd too, but needing to time the 'letting go' right ends up being the same as hitting the switch at the right time. Either way, anything at all that makes switching viable live would be an improvement on the current standing...
  2. I like this idea - or something similar to the TC Nova/G systems - press and hold the next patch button and it loads in the background (the display goes "Ready!!" When it's loaded), and switches to the new sound when you let go of the button...?
  3. I'm in the same boat, only in the last few days have I started to get errors and lock ups with it and getting concerned about it - I'm Andertons too, so tempted to change to a HD500X or something else entirely (Helix is a bit expensive for me!).... What are thinking of changing to?
  4. I'm I a similar position, in that I LOVE mine - functionality, use, features and sounds are all excellent, but it's not fit for purpose live at this time... So close, but yet... It's like having the best car in F1.... With the worst gearbox.
  5. Might sound daft, but check which output mode you're set to on the back - streamed music will only play through the 1/4" out in Line Out mode, not amp mode...? :)
  6. Slight niggle I've noticed when gigging - the inability to use both the XLR main out straight to the desk for FOH, and also the 1/4" to my amp for monitoring. The 'outputs set to amp' mode is no good because no guitar tone is sent through the XLR in that mode, and 'outputs set to line' mode sounds terrible through the amp (though great through the desk and PA). Could run FH XLR to desk, desk send to amp, but that's getting unnecessarily messy at that point. Perhaps a firmware update to specifically set what each outputs level is optimised for individually? Would anyone else find this useful?
  7. It may be quicker than X, Y, or Z, but it's also slower than A, B, and C, so I'm not sure the point you're making is? I think the only point to note is that the change is too slow, and needs remedied...?
  8. I've thought that too - some kind of dashboard page would be very useful!
  9. Check the switch on the back isn't set to 'amp output' - you'll not get anything from the XLR unless its set 'line output' :)
  10. I agree - I suspect they wouldn't work on all new algorithms for amps etc for Helix without rebuilding the variax modelling from the ground up also, for a JTV level guitar. Personally I find the new standards somewhat basic looking, and materially I don't want to play a pacifica - I had one when I was a teenager! An even better sounding, pro-level aesthetic Variax? Yes please :D
  11. I have some of those lying around in work, will give that a go actually....
  12. Interesting! A few tips I've picked up from a couple of weeks with it now - - There is much less lag present switching between patches that use the same Amp/Cab, so try and set up patches that don't switch amp models if possible. This also makes patch normalisation quite simple. - On my iPad Air 2, the 'reconnecting to Firehawk' thing when switching between apps doesn't happen if you 'four-finger-swipe' between apps rather than going in and out. My process is to open Spotify/Music, then open FH Remote and let it connect, then swipe back and forth between the two. - Haven't had any verification of this so it may be in my mind, but there seems to be a bit of caching effect on patches within a bank. EG - if you're in bank 30, and load patch A, then B, A seems to load that little bit quicker next time (as long as you stay in that bank). - Not being bluetooth tethered helps with lag also. - In bright sunshine, you can't see anything on it, so beware for festivals etc lol.
  13. Brightness was in there, but they were all set to 100 already :( Awe well!
  14. I've 2 (so far) 'generic' banks I'm using- 30A - Clean / 30B - Rhythm / 30C - Heavy Rhythm / 30D - Solo - all based on Blackface Lux Normal, various settings. 31A - Clean / 31B - Rhythm / 31C - Heavy Rhythm / 31D - Solo - all based on JCM 59 settings. Then maybe 2 more banks with presets specific to certain songs with odd effects (the tremolo on Boulevard of Broken Dreams, for example). I don't think setting up 40 presets for every song is going to work, unless you're on tour and playing the exact same setlist every night?
  15. The ipad helped, but at a glance being able to see the coloured leds, as well as being able to read the FH's display to see which bank and preset you're switching to (since the ipad only changes its display once you've switched to the bank/preset). I mentioned in another topic about minimising the lag - "Not changing Amps helps - ie if patch A is set to a Blackface Normal, keep B, C and D on the same amp/cab if possible. There seems to be a bit of a caching effect per bank - if you load bank 30, then load patch A, B, C, D and let them sit on each for a moment, the lag reduces very slightly (but only if 'not changing amps' as above). Not being Bluetooth tethered speeds things up a bit too. The FH seems to wait on a response of some sort from my iPad, and again there's a difference when not connected to it." I've been able to get the lag down to maybe 1/10th of a second this way?
  16. Gigged the FH all weekend, worked perfectly with no reliability issues at all over two 3-hour sets! Saturday night in a bar was fine, but playing at an outdoors on Sunday afternoon in bright sunshine, I couldn't see the FH display or LEDs at all. I had to build a little cardboard 'hood' to give it a bit of shadow, but still I had to trust my memory of what was where. Is there some deep edit way to increase the brightness at all?
  17. In my own testing I've found a few things which help a little - Not changing Amps helps - ie if patch A is set to a Blackface Normal, keep B, C and D on the same amp/cab if possible. There seems to be a bit of a caching effect per bank - if you load bank 30, then load patch A, B, C, D and let them sit on each for a moment, the lag reduces very slightly (but only if 'not changing amps' as above). Not being Bluetooth tethered speeds things up a bit too. The FH seems to wait on a response of some sort from my iPad, and again there's a difference when not connected to it. Having said all that, it'll be great if they fix the issue completely! Or are all the development guys working on Helix now instead?
  18. UK price then probably around £1000? It's a beautiful thing, and definitely hints at an updated variax!
  19. I 'borrowed' the feet from a Carlsboro stage monitor that died a while back ;) They're not unlike these though: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rubber-Instrument-Case-Feet-16-x-10mm-10-Pack-HW500-/150603504980?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2310ab1d54
  20. I've just done the same after reading this, except I put the bigger feet on the back edge of the flightcase its now in - it makes a huge difference to the accessibility of the back row.
  21. I'm a div. In Amp Out mode, the bluetoothed audio from the app isn't sent via the 1/4" outputs, only the XLR or Headphones....! So, there you go :) The reloading is annoying though.
  22. Mine arrived about 2pm, bumped the firmware straight away, via sub, took about 1 minute! Initial impressions after a half hours play - the lag is quite noticeable changing patches, like half a second - that's really not good enough, but hopefully something that can addressed soon. The quality of the sounds are superb. The unit itself seems to be of exceptional build quality. Issue with streaming music, though see my topic about that!
