  1. Yeah I love the tones he creates. I've purchased every one of them along with his screen protector. I've been getting the most use out of his acoustic patch and 3 channel ambient. That Vertigo patch has been really good for me too.

    Helix or HD500X

I agree with amsdenj. I know the HD500x is a great piece of gear, but I could never dial anything that I was truly happy with. I did find it easier to dial in clean tones with great effects to my liking, but I had a hard time getting the right kind of grit that I needed. Now with my Helix I have many different options for things that I really like. I can edit on the fly just a couple of minutes before the song and I've found something that I love. Some of the things that I love on top of the sound is over 1,000 presets, scribble strips, the LCD screen, the extra DSP, the extra effects blocks, and the ease of use. I loved the idea of my HD500X, but never really liked my tones.
  3. Custom Tone is like the Wal-mart for presets. Sure there's some good stuff there, but not a lot of the people uploading their patches are putting in as much effort. He's making videos and at least he knows if someone wants the patch they'd probably like it and appreciate it. Not to mention he'll be setting up preset packages for purchase. I've enjoyed all the videos so far, but I think I liked the EQ vid the best. EQ'ing is something I struggle with...especially when there are multiple places to modify.
  4. I love my Variax. The church I play at seems to have a lot of issues with noise so I'm able to avoid the issue with the VDI connection. It's also really useful to have all that tonal range for my patches. If it sounds a bit nasally I'll switch over to the Lester...if it sounds a bit muddy I'll switch over to the Spank. I don't mess with the EQ as much because I can usually find a setting I like on the Variax. For my needs the versatility is what it's all about. I have a few really nice Gibsons, but it's just so much easier to setup with a JTV and a Helix and know I'm set.
  5. Please excuse my foolishness, but what is the benefit to recording silence first in the loop? To be honest I don't mess around with a looper very often.
  6. Are you running the most current app 1.03? If you haven't updated it recently that's probably the issue.
  7. I've checked into musicpro before. It looks decent, but I've read that once you're in it's hard to get in contact with someone. I was checking into it more last night and discovered that my insurance company offers a personal articles policy that does the same thing. It's an all peril, no deductible policy that covers from point A to point B and everything in between...just no war or nuclear strikes...haha. My concern was if it was stolen somewhere away from home or damaged at church. The church has insurance, but they this will cover me everywhere with no deductible for coverage of $1/yr per $155. Anyways I recommend you check with your insurance provider to see if they have a similar policy.
  8. Last week I played through the left XLR out with the ground lift engaged. I had the output set to half and I was running at mic level. I turned the Hum down to 3 on my patches which seemed to help with the clipping that I had been experiencing. I want to try going 1/4 to a direct box and push my output a little more this weekend. I was mostly using Glenn's Ambient 3 Amp Patch.
  9. All this stuff is sort of outside of my skill set. When I first experienced the hiss I asked the sound tech to lower my gain, but then I seemed to be much too quiet. Is there a certain level my gain should be at in relation to my overall volume or is it just something that a good tech should know? We run into problems at church when you have someone like me that is unfamiliar with running sound talking to a sound tech that is relatively new or inexperienced.
  10. I have the hiss coming out of a specific channel...which unfortunately happens to be my channel. Now that you mention the eq I wonder if that is making the difference. At any rate the ground lift completely eliminates this for me. The only problem I have is that I'd like to switch the board off between services, but the hiss comes back until I unplug the xlr. I'm gonna have to try your work around this weekend. Thanks for the info.
  11. http://dueymoore.com/david_gilmour_tone_guide_pod_h.html I think this page could be of some use to you.
  12. I really want to get some type of insurance for my music gear. I was wondering if any of you guys have it and if you'd recommend it.
  13. I'm not great with describing tonal issues, but when you said it's like a harmonic on top of the tone I felt we had a similar issue. I was thinking that it was the audio clipping. I haven't quite figured out how to get rid of it, but it seems to come and go when I add more gain to the patch ie stompbox or a higher gain amp. I have the issue on relatively low gain patches.
  14. https://glenndelaune.com/patch%20downloads.htm I just got these today, but I haven't had a chance to check them out yet. The last 2 patches Glenn made are 3 amp patches. Sounds like what you were looking for.
  15. I had an issue with the hiss the first time I brought it to practice. I thought to myself "not again" as I've had issues with my HD500x being somewhat more noisy than the other guitarists X3 and I was hoping the Helix would be above all of that. Luckily the soundperson is very good and figured out it was the phantom power. The hiss came back for that weekends services unfortunately. I switched channels and it seemed fine so we thought it was the XLR cable. The question I have is should I set the level to Mic level like others are saying to do? I thought it was recommended to use Line level, but all of this stuff is outside of my expertise. I was also noticing some audio clipping on a specific patch. Oddly enough Glenn asked that question and I happened to be switching back and forth between his patch and a different one...the clipping was not on his patch.
  16. I'm looking forward to trying this out. I'm a bit concerned that I won't fully comprehend what's going on, but I really appreciate your work and sharing it with everyone.
  17. Thanks so much DunedinDragon...that's some great advice.
  18. Thanks for the advice guys. I decided to replace the same speaker. I think it is a nice speaker and I was able to get tones closer to what they actually sound like as opposed to playing through my amp. I really like the mid to high frequencies in the patches, but it kind of muddied up on the bass with power chords. Sounds like the best option is to still build them on stage. I never seem to like the stuff I've made that's over 2 weeks old. I must just suck at creating them still.
  19. I've been reading through some of the threads where people are looking for FRFR speakers and such and haven't come across one that quite hits on my question. I'm running my HD500x straight to the mixer with an XLR and I don't always have the time to go build the patches at the church. I'm looking for a way to be able to build patches at home that will sound the same once I get to church. I just purchased a JBL EON612 and it was kind of close, but I think the unit was defective. I have to send it back and was wondering if I should just replace it or if there are better options. Keep in mind that the use of the speaker is secondary and would really love for it to be in the $200-$400 range. I'm still new to Line 6 and would appreciate any opinions you guys might have.
