  1. ... set of two L3M Stagesource speakers at a very nice price (used, with just a few surface scuffs). I am currently running one L2T in mono, which is pretty nice (and portable). I quite fancy running on stage in stereo. Should I pull the trigger, or would the above set-up be total overkill?
  2. Thanks, I'll try that tonight. Much appreciated.
  3. Apologies if this has been covered here before: I have just purchased some 3 Sigma IR's. The 'manual' that comes with them if brief to say the least so I have a quick query. I'm assuming that I load the WAV files into my Helix? The WAV files are numbered and I have four choices: 44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96. What is the difference? Are the smaller numbered ones kind of "lower resolution", ie use less processing power? Does 96 sound superior to 44.1? Can't believe this is not explained in the manual. I have Googled this and couldn't find an answer.
  4. ...is it Rev D (For use with Helix Firmware 2.00)? I have just updated Helix to 2.12 and fancied printing the latest manual, I'm old fashioned like that. Just wondered if the above is the latest version, as that's the one that came up in my search results.
  5. I've got an original Guv'nor pedal (and the almost identical Drivemaster) by Marshall. Pretty much a TS9 Tubescreamer type drive with more flexible EQ. Try using the Helix 808 model with an EQ after it. Should get you in the ball park.

    Electric mistress

I posted about this very subject a few months back. The Courtesan flanger is nothing like an old Mistress. I am lucky to own several original battery Mistress' and several Deluxe models. I also have a Hartman Analog Flanger which is a superb modern update on the 18 volt battery Mistress, and sounds really authentic. Helix does nail some amazing old modulation effects convincingly (Uni Vibe, Phase 90, CE-1) but the Electric Mistress 'model' is a total head-scratcher??. It's not a bad sounding flange effect, but that unique Andy Summers sounding chime is simply not happening with the Courtesan.
  7. Hi! No, I noticed the first time I tried a Helix. Actually, that was at a shop demo session with Paul Hindmarsh from Line 6. He offered me a play through the Helix and I asked to hear the Electric Mistress sound because I knew precisely what I wanted to hear to get an idea of modeling accuracy. I still bought a Helix that day though haha! I can't say I've noticed much difference since the latest update with stock sounds. I'm very pleased with the latest firmware (especially the tuner).
  8. Yeah, that's right, the Courtesan is modeled on the Deluxe Mistress, I remember now. It still sounds nothing like one though. The large box Deluxe and smaller battery Mistress have a unique flanging sound. I was just a bit gutted that the Courtesan gets nowhere near it. Frustrating when you consider how accurate something like the Uni Vibe is.
  9. Been meaning to address this for a while. As huge fan of Old Electro Harmonix gear, I was curious to hear the Line 6 model of the Electric Mistress flanger and Deluxe Memory Man analog delay. I find the Elephant Man (Memory Man) model pretty good and usable for live convenience. The Courtesan flanger (Electric Mistress model) is not really doing it for me though. It's so inaccurate, I wonder if Line6 have actually modeled the newer digital EHX Mistress (which sounds NOTHING like the analog Mistress)? I wanna add compression and tape delay and pretend I'm Andy Summers. I wanna play the begining of Spirit of Radio and pretend I'm Alex Lifeson. For what it's worth, I want the one on the right!
  10. Interesting point. I have just compared amp on / amp bypassed volumes and the amp ON is louder then the amp bypassed volume (all effects bypassed). Do you think I need to set all patch volumes to be about the same as bypass vol? I can do that at the output block right? UPDATE: Adjusting the output block volume effects even the bypass volume of the whole patch, so I tried turning the amp model Master volume down to balance to the bypass vol. I'll see if that makes the cut-out problem go away. I'll know better tomorrow when I can try at a suitable level (it's getting late now!). :P Anyone else experienced a similar problem with a Line6 L2 cab?
  11. I hope there is a quick fix for this as I have a gig in two days... Im playing my Helix at bedroom level through my Line6 L2T speaker and whenever I play some low, punchy notes on my bass strings the treble cuts out (I assume from the 1 inch driver) and only the main speaker sound remains. After a minute or two, the driver comes back on (I have listened close to the cab and the top driver is cutting). I have tried both my Strat and Gretsch Black Falcon guitars, and problem persists. I plugged the Helix into a keyboard amp and problem went away, so this is likely to be the L2T. I'm using a CLEAN tone and normalish EQ settings on the amp models. Helix volume dial is at 11 o'clock L2T level is up at around 40% Mode is PA/Referrence Connected via Line6 link No way will this get me through my next gig. I am not driving the cab too hard by any stretch of the imagination. Am I doing anything wrong? Advice greatly appreciated!
  12. I found the tuner very 'blocky' (from a visual perspective) compared to , say, the Line 6 JM4 Looper tuner (which is accurate enough to intonate a guitar) or my Boss TU3 pedal tuner. I've stuck with the Helix tuner onstage but have to admit I almost went the way of the OP and added the Boss pedal back to my board. I would love an update that offered a more sensitive looking tuner, ie not the huge blocks that swing from left to right then settle in the middle when the tuning is somewhere near close enough. A Helix weak spot.
  13. Brilliant! Very toneful.
  14. I have used a different approach. I posted a few pics here: http://line6.com/support/topic/19364-fasten-helix-to-pedal-board-a-solution/
  15. I'm an old-school hardcopy man myself. I have bookshelves full of books, stacks of albums and singles and tons of dusty old guitar mags. Come to think of it, it's a wonder my amps and pedals are now gathering dust! :P
  16. My pedal board build is coming along nicely. The EHX polyphonic pedals are intergrating VERY nicely with Helix. I've just spent a few hours in stereo electric piano heaven. Just thought I'd share...
  17. Apologies if this has been addressed before, but I have never seen/read any in depth reviews of Helix in the guitar mags. Is this because the product was 'eased' out into the market over a few months? Maybe some of the early firmware issues? Personally, I often buy Guitar Player, Guitar and Bass and Guitarist mags. Nothing in those three, unless I missed something? I do enjoy a good read... <_<
  18. Brilliant! Inspiriational as ever.
  19. It's also worth noteing that the position and proximity of certain pedals (especially wahs) to the power suppy can cause unwanted hum, buzz etc. I always run the signal into a loud, high-gain amp channel and physically pick up and move the pedals closer to the suppy and listen for any effect on the noise floor. I've just been trying this with pedals through the Helix loops and a high gain sound. Proximity DEFINITELY has an effect on noise.
  20. I may be missing something here, but surely all the pedals are grounded together through the earth side of the cables that connect them? The problem must have something to do with power supply being screwed to the pedal board, as you mentioned??
  21. Hi Todd the brass is 1.2mm thick. Quite hard to cut, but very solid for this application.
  22. I just thought I'd share a few pics of how I have decided to fasten Helix to a wooden pedal board I am currently building. With regular pedals I always use these shaped metal things that screw to the pedal via the screws that hold the base plate in place. I can screw them under the two bottom rubber feet on the Helix, but the two upper feet are positioned in such a way that I needed to make some (longer) metal brackets of my own. I made the from thin brass which I drilled and hand cut with a hacksaw. Then I removed the rough edges with a file and some wire wool. They are not prefectly shaped, but they don't need to be. Next I attached via the Helix rubber feet and screwed tight (but not over-tight). Now the Helix can be screwed rock solid to the wooden base. I'll post pics one the whole board is finished. (Sorry about the bad quality pics)
  23. Ah, hope you get fixed up with a replacement, if needed. Good luck!
