Controller Assign not saving (Pitch Wham Position)
JimDiGritz replied to JimDiGritz's topic in Helix Native
Thanks for testing, am on 3.10 - but Windows 10... It happens in both Reaper and Cantabile so it's not the DAW, I can also use the same exp pedal to control say Mix and that saves perfectly... -
So I'm using my FBV Midi controller's expression pedal with Native (have tried both Reaper and Cantabile - this happens in both). On the Pitch Wham block I'm assigning my expression pedal (CC7) to the Position slider and it works perfectly, however if I switch Preset (and then reopen it) or restart Native the controller assign is gone. I can assign the expression pedal to other sliders on the same Pitch Wham such as Mix and that works and saves. I've also tried creating a blank preset with ONLY a Pitch Wham and this still occurs. You can see in the screenshots, the preset is definitely saved and all I have done is switched to another preset and then re-opened the original preset and the controller assign is empty.. Can anyone replicate this??? Can you assign an expression pedal to the Position slider on the Pitch Wham AND save it???

Can anyone walk me through controlling Native with footswitches??
JimDiGritz replied to JimDiGritz's topic in Helix Native
Looks like I'm heading off into the unknown!! I've just won an eBay auction for a used FBV MkII - I'll try and share if/how I get this working in case anyone else finds it useful. -
Just for context - I only play at home and mostly just tone match and jam along with music and backing tracks. I used to have a Helix Floor but the mainboard died and I'm saving up to get it repaired (its out of warranty and I've been warned it's probably a $300-400 fix - plus shipping.) So whilst that's in it's box I bought Native which actually for my purposes is perfect. The only thing I really miss is being able to switch Snapshots and use variable effects like a Wah pedal. I *thought* it would be trivial to buy a generic usb footswitch unit - maybe even with an expression pedal - and plug and play.... I niaively thought that like any other USB input (eg a joystick) that I could just remap the controls into Helix... however so far my research is telling me that I'd probably have better luck putting a man on the moon.... Firstly I can't seem to find a budget footswitch. Given that I just need a couple of switches and maybe an expression pedal I thought there would be some cheap generic options (I'm not gigging with this!!) but I can either spend $300 on a FBV 3 or maybe find an earlier FBV Express MkII which I believe has USB.. Even if I buy one of these my research is uncovering a wall of tech issues - it sounds like I have to remap the MIDI cc#s (never heard of it!!) to somehow trigger Reaper's automation envelops to then somehow send the Helix Command inputs to Native's assigns......... bzzzzzzzzzzzzz you get my point.. So my question is, can anyone point me to a step by step guide to do what I thought was simple - use a basic usb footswitch to control snapshots and levels (eg Wah) in Native? Cheers!!

Just a thought - I've just had what appears a very similar issue with a Helix Floor (on 2.82 FW) Jim

So my 4yr old Helix Floor has properly given up the ghost. I'll ship it back to the UK service center but with Corona and what might be a massive repair bill I've just put the unit back in it's box for now. I'll get it fully refurbed and probably list it on eBay. I just jam at home (with backing tracks etc) via PC headphone and monitors and only bought the Helix Floor because L6 hadn't released any of the smaller devices or Native at that point. I'm really happy with Native and my Focusrite interface. The only thing I miss is the Wah/expression pedal. I assumed I could just buy and plug in a USB expression pedal and assign that to the Wah variable in Native. Are there any gotcha's here?? Whilst browsing expression pedals I also stumbled across this Line6 FBV Express MKII https://www.thomann.de/gb/line6_fbv_express_usb.htm - it appeared to be the perfect solution (eg an expression pedal, a couple of assignable switches for the odd Overdrive Block/Snapshot change - it's also a L6 product so I thought it may have some additional features...). However after 5 mins googling and diving into some TGP 'discussions' I'm not sure it will actually work as I expect. Has anyone used Native with the above or another simple footswitch & expression pedal setup? Thanks Jim

I've just seen this thread - Not sure if I've just wasted £60 on an XLR mic now....
-
So I went out and bought an XLR mic so that I can get vocal and guitar on separate paths and into Skype as one signal. Now what? How do I set my audio input to the Helix as well as the Output? I mean I tried the obvious of setting the Input in the Sound Control Panel as Digital Audio Interface as per the image, but am getting no sound at all on the input... On the Line 6 preset Guitar + Vocals both paths are set to Multi - is this right? Surely this should be really easy??? Jim

Reaper suddenly thinks my Helix Floor is an HX Stomp
JimDiGritz replied to JimDiGritz's topic in Helix
FYI updating to 2.81 fixed it! -
I booted up Reaper after a short break and the Audio warning popped up telling me that the Audio Device wasn't found. I've seen this before so I opened the Audio Preferences and went to select ASIO Helix as the Driver/Device. Bizarrely, now the only Helix option available is ASIO HX Stomp.... I have never owned an HX Stomp. As you might expect, if I select this I get no sound... Can anyone help me troubleshoot this? I'm on Helix 2.8, HX Edit works fine and whilst I can't exactly remember whether I've used Reaper since the upgrade to 2.8, I think I have. Any ideas appreciated! Jim

Thanks, but I really don't want to have to buy an XLR mic specially just for this purpose - I thought I could use the combination of equipment I've got already but seemingly not!
-
No, Helix Floor Yes I've got Guitar on Top path (which works) and Aux on Bottom Path (no sound from mic). I tried 4 different mono and stereo 3.5mm TRS to 1/4" TRS adapters into the Aux - none worked. I really don't want to have to shell out on an XLR condenser mic!
-
I'm not teaching btw, I have a friend who's offered to critique my playing over skype. I've plugged in my mic into the Aux 1/4" input and used the Guitar & Vocals preset. Guitar works fine, but no mic sound at all... in DAW or Skype I set the Input in Windows sound settings to Digital Audio Interface (2 Line 6 Helix) as opposed to the previous ASUS soundcard mic input.. Any ideas?
-
Thanks, I was trying to avoid dedicating an entire DSP to handle speech, also means that if I need to use my PC for VOIP I'll have to ensure that the Helix is in the right preset first etc.
-
I feel like I'm over complicating this, surely people are sharing guitar audio via YouTube or Skype all the time during online lessons etc...

Hi, My setup is pretty simple. Mic into PC Soundcard. Helix as Output Soundcard (via USB and 1/4" to monitors and Headphone Out) I've got the Voiceemeter (and virtual patch cable) setup as per the guide I linked to and can now Skype with a mixer of Voice and PC audio, but I can't see a way to output Helix processed sound to the main Speakers - Line 6 Helix. I'm wondering whether the missing link is to use my DAW (Reaper) to somehow monitor the Helix and send this to the Virtual cable input, but I've got confused over which Driver and outputs/inputs to choose and not got it working. Basically, how do I get the processed Helix output into Voiceemeter?

I need to be able to share my voice, PC Audio (eg a backing track) and of course my Helix sound over Skype. I'm almost there, but can't figure out how to add the Helix. NB I'm playing at night using headphones, so cranking up the volume and playing the sound in the room into the mic isn't viable. Using this guide: https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/share-music-skype-add-sound-podcasts-audio-clips-like-pro/ I've got voice and PC audio into skype, but I'm at a loss as to how to bring in the processed guitar signal (USB1/2). Any ideas?

I've got several dozen patches with a Volume Block which is controlled by EXP2. Before the update , if I left the EXP2 at 0% and rebooted the Volume would stay at 0% (in line with the actual pedal position) when the Helix restarted. Now, it seems to revert to 100% volume on reboot, even though the pedal position is still at 0%. This can be resolved by engaging the EXP2 and then it works as expected until the next reboot. NB I believe that this was a bug which also occurred in a previous Firmware update and was subsequently resolved....

Helix power Fishman Fluence? (Phantom power via Stereo?)
JimDiGritz replied to JimDiGritz's topic in Helix
Hi, yes I built a strat without backplate screw holes! -
Helix power Fishman Fluence? (Phantom power via Stereo?)
JimDiGritz replied to JimDiGritz's topic in Helix
Thanks, I guess my question is - will my Helix provide power to active (Fishman) pickups via a stereo cable? I've read some comments online which suggest that active pickups *can* be powered by a stereo cable and a dedicated Phantom Power box, I was wondering whether I could eliminate the separate power supply altogether..... -
I'm just about to assemble my new Strat project and I'm close to pulling the trigger on some Fishman Fluence single coils. They need a 9v battery and I'm loathed to have to take the pick guard on/off to replace them when the battery dies. I use the trem (so won't hardtail and use the back cavity), plus I don't like the back plate so the Fishman replacement backplate battery isn't an option either. I read somewhere that you can power active electronics using a stereo cable which draws power via the Phantom power in a DI etc. Does anyone know whether this is supported by the Helix? Cheers! Jim

I rebooted (again!) and uninstalled the last L6 apps, then rebooted (again!). Have now just finished the update process.... Also FYI BitDefender was initially blocking the .exe as malicious - this is VERY unusual and not happened to other L6 update files or any other new application installers in recent memory...
-
I've also just uninstalled all Line 6 software (except these 2 which now say the files can't be found after uninstalling the other applications....) Rebooted. Still getting same error...
-
I'm getting this error after downloading and running the HXEditv2.80Installer.exe file. Not had this before with any other Line6 update. Windows 10. I've redownloaded the file 3 different times (to 3 different download locations), disabled my AV software and run As Administrator.
