what you are asking can be done. you have 10 buttons available in stomp mode. Just dedicate 2 buttons to Next/Prev HX Presets. and that leaves you 8 buttons to setup as stomps (or combinations of things within one button) to create 'mini' pedal boards if you will. You could even 'bookend' your presets. Example: Preset 1: Stomp button 1>HX Preset Next, this leaves 9 buttons for stomp switches to be used however Preset 2-???: Stomp button 1 and 2 > HX Preset Prev/Next, leaves 8 buttons for stomp switches to be used however Preset ???: Stomp Button 1> HX preset Prev, this leaves 9 buttons available for stomp switches to be used however. Ive never been an analogue pedalboard guy, the tap dancing would surely leave me off balance and on the floor most the night lol, but if I had to set it up....I would create mini pedal boards based on sounds/genres or likelihood of use. Instead of viewing it as 1028 presets, i'd see it as 1028 pedalboards. I'd create my core items for my replacement rig (amps/cabs) and then place fx around those pieces to make my pedal board. to allow the most space (again, not a pedal board guy) I'd put my amp at the end of signal path 1 and my cab at beginning of signal path B to give the most block spaces available pre/post amp/cab slots.

New Variax in the works???
themetallikid replied to themetallikid's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Yeah I hear that and I've been keeping an eye on it for new stuff coming out and all. Just seems to be filling my email inbox more lately. In my head I read that as, blow out inventory before announcement for the fall/xmas season comes around so we can build the hype and not sit on the current inventory. Wishful thinking, more than likely yes. -
I just outfitted my guitars all with the same strap. its a regular nylon type one, its thick enough across my shoulder, but hte thickness of the material is nowhere near that. Even my last suede ones were thicker and wouldnt be thick enough to satisfy the gap in the metal belt clip. Always just kept my old wireless in my back pocket or attached on my belt behind me, but this cable isnt nearly long enough.
-
So I got a G50 from my buddy who upgraded his and all.....however the cable length only seems about 18" which would be ok if I attach it to my guitar strap. I cannot though, my strap is too thin for the belt buckle, and the pack is in the way if I try and put it on my belt anywhere the cable reaches. Also noticed that the cable seems to come out of the G50 if there is any sort of pull on the cable. I had it in my shorts front pocket just to jam and such at home, and with a simple walk to the kitchen to refresh my beverage, it pulled it out. and due to the pin construction of the jack its not hte easiest to quickly insert on the fly. So, do they make a longer cable? Is this body pack/cable set just worn and that is causing the cable to release easier than a 'new' one?

New Variax in the works???
themetallikid posted a topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I've been getting emails from L6 with sales on the variax guitars. I dont recall seeing those very often the last 2 years of my Helix life. Wondering if this is a way to help purge current inventory before something new is announced or released. I've seen that trend with other companies several times. Just a curious thought. -
Button behavior: Snapshots vs Command Center Snapshots
themetallikid replied to themetallikid's topic in Helix
yeah I watched that video and I'm familiar with the settings enough to set it up correctly. I name my snapshots at the preset creation level. So how I would normally do it in the past. Then my final step is to go into command center and setup the stomp mode layout. I'm still working out my new core tones and once those are setup I'll design more song presets and see if its a more consistent issue or not. -
Button behavior: Snapshots vs Command Center Snapshots
themetallikid replied to themetallikid's topic in Helix
Yeah possibly, its just tough to tell cause its intermittant when it happens which makes me think its potentially user error or that I have a setting different since the 2.9 global setting changes from what I did before. I usually turn the touch switch feature off as I dont use it. Am I correct there is a setting for the 'return to prev snapshot' option? -
So I love the new Command Center options of adjusting your layouts per preset in the Stomp Mode layout. However, I have noticed some erratic behavior when jamming and trying to change sounds and wonder if there is something I can adjust or a setting i'm not thinking of. Previously I'd run in the 4 preset/4 snapshot mode, never had any issues like I'll describe below. With the new Command Center options, I've essentially laid out my 'Stomp Screen' to look like a palette of Snapshots for the song, but also some stomp switches as needed. The snapshots are where i'm noticing the behavior. I set up buttons 10/11 the most as I switch with my right foot while singing and playing so they get the most use. But i've noticed when in the Stomp screen mode, sometimes pressing to change to a different snapshot it either changes and then jumps back or sometimes doesnt seem to change at all. I know that I have it setup so that a 2nd press of the button will revert to the previous snapshot, which makes me think that I'm pushing/releasing the button too slow and its reading it as a double push and reverting to the current/previous snapshot. However, its happening frequently enough that I dont think its this. Also I've never experienced this in the 4/4 split mode above, unless I did not have the 'revert to previous snapshot' feature turned on, if there is a setting for that. My other thought was that maybe those switches were getting worn and not reading the button pushes correctly all the time, but again, dont have the issues in the 4/4 split mode. I had similar issues when they first made the stomp buttons have a momentary option. I had some weird, inconsistent, results when having multiple blocks attached to it (OD, Delay, output level boost) as a momentary lead boost for a few songs. Over the course of the song with multiple pushes it would somehow flip the state of some of the blocks sometimes. Not enough to be consistently an issue, but enough that I didnt feel I could trust it from a live standpoint while singing, playing sorta thing. Curious if my current 'jumping' issues are related to the Stomp issue at the end there, or if they could be attached to the pressing speed (never been an issue in all my years of midi controllers and such) and the reverting to previous presets. Anyone else noticed this?

I've recently been using the York Audio IRs, been redoing my core tones with them.
-
Thanks "Lone" I was at work and couldnt search for that.
-
ok, excuse my 'newb-ness' with this. So I connect the Xair to my laptop via USB.... Im still new what is complicated about the 1/2 to 17/18 thing? And I assume I have to download the driver from the xair site? or will it search/install when connected automatically.
-
this also means that the guys can use their own rigs to record instead of creating sounds through my helix as well. Thanks again
-
Hmm, Ill have to try that. I strayed from that as somone mentioned there was something complicated about getting it setup that way. That would certainly make things a little easier on my end to do that as well. Thanks for the advice.

if you use the command center, and go into stomp mode, you can program any combination of snaps/presets/stomps that you'd like. There is a good video linked somewhere in a recent thread that explains it
-
So in my head this works out right....but not sure.... Been recording some covers myself with prerecorded drum tracks. However if we wanted to record with our drummer (simple 4 piece kit, plus cymbals) I could run that through our Xair18 mixer and then take a monitor send out into my helix to put into my laptop/reaper right? I know I'd have to get the levels right, but being that its sending line level into the Mic input, i'd just keep it as a clean signal patch, maybe LA Comp at the end to smooth it out? I know there is a way to record from the XAIR out to laptop directly, but that seems move involved and just haven't researched it yet.

if I'm understanding you right, yes, I use mine mainly (before the 2.9 update) in 4 preset/4 snap mode. I mainly use a preset per song live, but for practices I have banks of sounds based on styles of music. Dance rock, country, 80's rock, etc. So when stringing songs together at practice and changing styles, I bank up/down and it queues the 4 presets in that bank until I push the preset to change to. I believe there is a global setting on the behavior of the switches if its a single push or requires a 2nd push to select the preset. I could be wrong....
-
nice, I look forward to experimenting. thank you

and I could be (read: probably am) completely wrong. I thought I had read that he uses delay modules/pedals/rack units and plays in real time with the knobs to change the different settings. Maybe it is more of a synth thing...idk, i'm synth illiterate. But I remember seeing either a live rig rundown or something and he had something off to the right of his guitar pedalboard that was about chest/waist high and had something he could manipulate. hmm.... Is there a good tutorial to explore synths for newbies?
-
I'm not asking to duplicate this songs specifically...but I'm a bit of a delay newbie....Im listening to Vince Neil's solo album and the first track 'Look In Her Eyes" featuring Steve Stevens (what a player) really showcases his effects usage and playing (whole album really, love his town on this album). Anyway at about 3:40 into the first track he goes into some cool delay type of tricks and I'd love to incorporate these into some live solos where I get to mess around. More for jaw dropping effect than anything really. I used to use a raygun sorta effect during the Rebel Yell song and it always caught people off guard. I haven't found a way to program a good ray gun on here either, but that's another thread. Anyway, any tips to pursue the type of sounds on the effects he is using in the solo at this point of the song? It almost sounds like old school computer sorta sounds....I could be fooled and maybe be pulled the toy raygun trick again on this track and I've never read about it.... Thanks in advance

2.9 Helix-HX Command Center Snapshots/Preset Tutorial
themetallikid replied to Lone_Poor_Boy's topic in Helix
Yeah there was a thread I started or joined on TGP that addressed this somewhat. If you customize a snapshot in the "mode/command center screen" something doesn't map or work right. The presets that I've been doing lately, I've already had the snapshots setup on the preset level, and then just customized the layout in the command center screen to make my screen cleaner for performances. Havent had issues really since that. However, I'm not sure if its a programming issue or my button pushing or mechanical buttons. Back when momentary stomps were released I had issues with them flipping the bypass states between the on/off momentary pushes. But a few times I've tried to go from one snapshot to another in the Stomp Mode, it seems that it didn't want to change. I was using socks on my feet, sitting down or reaching with my hands from my desk chair.... so it very well could be my technique when quality checking my preset and snapshot changes. -
2.9 Helix-HX Command Center Snapshots/Preset Tutorial
themetallikid replied to Lone_Poor_Boy's topic in Helix
I hear that it isnt for everyone. It just allows me to not cap how I design presets for a majority of the songs we do. start putting dual amps in a preset to cover clean/dirty tones, then seperate OD's to flavor each if your doing a gritty addition to the clean and one to boost the dirty amp, then if you have a wah before the amp (of course), run an IR and post EQ along with reverb, delay and maybe additional effect after the cab if needed...my core tones that I designed and were happy with now have to start making consolation adjustments and while its not life breaking...in my head I know i hear whats 'missing'. I get it, but it allows me to now approach my core tones and preset/songs in a different way where I dont have to compromise. I think when you first choose the snapshot/preset option, the color defaults to automatic, which is what was originally saved for that snapshot. if you have conflicting colors between snapshot/stomp buttons you can change them and maybe the functionality of the snapshot dim/bright because its defaulting to the Stomp mode of on/off maybe? no? Still excited for this feature. I feel like the amp/pedals/cabs and such are secondary for myself. I used to have a LAMF foot controller for my Axe FX...that thing was a programming customizing beast. This update feature has basically taken my Axe Fx capabilities and smashed them with a lot of the features I loved in the LAMF. WHOOT! -
2.9 Helix-HX Command Center Snapshots/Preset Tutorial
themetallikid replied to Lone_Poor_Boy's topic in Helix
Just found my first 'snag' with this new feature. First my thoughtful approach....Use Setlist 1 for new library of core presets. I have 8 tones, saved on the '10' of each preset number 10/20/30 etc.... This allows effect varied version of those core/dry tones to be saved in the spaces between them. Was going to then use setlist 2 to setup a Master Song library of songs per preset. Those presets using this great new feature to reference my core tones in setlist 1. However, you can't jump setlists when doing the HX Preset option it only references the 128 presets within that setlist. Not a problem, just requiring me to think outside of a box I didnt know existed until now. Being that most of our setlists consist of 40-50 songs that we actually play and usually 10-15 extra/audibles available....that still leaves about 60+ presets. As I create the song specific presets I'll just need to copy/paste the Core Tone from the Core Setlist into the Setlist for live use, and paste the presets at the end of the setlist, allowing my songs to start with 000 and reference presets within the setlist then. -
2.9 Helix-HX Command Center Snapshots/Preset Tutorial
themetallikid replied to Lone_Poor_Boy's topic in Helix
i'm updating Helix currently...anyone know if I have presets listed as: 000 - clean 001 - clean chorus 002 - country clean 003 - fuzz and I have a preset using 000, 001, 002 and a preset using 003, and move 003 to the 000 slot, will presets update automatically and follow the preset to the new slot location? Or will I have to re-link to the new location using the command center?
