The ability to have a second press option has been around for at least a decade, boss had it on one of the older multi-effects units, I think it was the GT-8. anyway, it goes like this, press the preset once, it goes to the preset, press it again, you can choose from a list of options, like - "Change view Snapshot/Preset", "Looper, "Toggle Snap 1/Snap 2", Tuner, etc
-
I wish helix had the option to change it's display from Preset to snapshot either at the push of a single footswitch or via midi.
-
Snapshots and stomps should be combined into one thing, they are very similar anyway. For example, if you have your view set to Pre/Snap, you have 4 presets, and 4 Snapshots but some functions like looper can't be assigned as a snapshot, only as a stomp, which is annoying to me. Why not snapshots and stomps into one multifunction controller?

Hey Guys, I've been trying to make a helix preset where the string volume changes from snapshot to snapshot, and can't seem to make it work. In my case I'm trying to go from a Open G# with string 6 at volume 0% on 3 snapshots, to a standard tuned guitar with all strings 100% volume on the 4th snapshot. The tuning changes fine per snapshot, but the string volume remains at 100%. I know I can work around this through workbench, but I shouldn't have to, it's supposed to work. My input variax setting is - "per preset". I've checked every global setting and have found nothing that should effect it. Guitar is JTV59, flash memory 2.23, Helix 2.82. Has anybody made a preset with snapshots changing string volumes?

Connecting Midi In to Midi Out to send messages to yourself
Retro-Rick replied to Retro-Rick's topic in Helix
The problem was that, when you re-save, you have to make sure you only do that on snapshot 1. Because the footswitch is set up that initial is snap 1, toggle is snap 2. Some times I would save it on snapshot 2 which creates a conflict and crashes the helix. -
Connecting Midi In to Midi Out to send messages to yourself

I figured out what was going wrong, I got it to work now. Button 12 is now programmable. -
I know it's a stupid sounding title, however, on one of the earlier firmware levels I was able to direct connect Midi in and out, and use button 12 to toggle snap shot 1/2. A lot of my presets have only 2 snapshots, and I don't use tap tempo at all, so it saved me from having to press buttons 1/7 and go into snapshot view, I'm usually in 8 presets view. With the current level of firmware, shorting the midi in & out causes a kind of feedback loop that freezes and locks up the Helix. Has anyone else messed around with this? I wish the helix had more footswitch programming options.

How many people would like to see a medium size Helix?
Retro-Rick replied to Retro-Rick's topic in Helix
The gigboard is very weak compared to the FM3, the big thing for me is Variax, I want the ability to change tunings and guitar models per-preset like the helix. I'm on the waitlist for the FM3, the only thing that would make me want to hold off would be if L6 announces a Mid-Sized Helix at summer namm. -

Not at all like the LT. The LT is almost exactly the same size as the full Helix and it lost the scribble strips which needs to be on a good mid-sized helix. What I'm suggesting is much more like the "HX Effects", it has 8 buttons, it has scribble strips, and it has no built it expression pedal. -
I bought a full Helix, love it almost completely, just wish it wasn't as big as it is. I bought an HX Stomp, I love a lot about it, but I really miss a lot of what was cut from the Helix. So like Goldie Locks, This one's too big, that one's too small, I want one that is just right! That's what I'm hoping to find. A Medium sized helix with. 1) Full Variax Control 2) 6-8 Buttons 3) Scribble Strips 4) More powerful than HX Stomp ( More Blocks, More Snapshots, Snapshots with names, Holds more presets than 128) 5) No Wall Wart Power Plug 6) No Built In Expression Pedal (just optional plug in) 7) XLR outs 8) Volume Meters 9) Buttons with more programmability (Not just click, but also - toggle, and hold, that you can assign) If Line 6 decides to make a pedal like this, it would be better than anything, even the FM3.

Thanks Dude

That's a good feature, AX8 has a scene 1/2 toggle, similar Idea that I used a lot. Hope to see it on the HX stomp, there's no command center on the stomp though...

That would be cool

Hey all, I don't know about you guys, but I'm so tired of checking for the 2.8 upgrade, and seeing it's not there yet. Ever since I got the HX Stomp to compliment my Helix, I've been changing all my presets to work with both units. I use them both, sometimes when I want to use my Variax I bring the big one with me, if not, I bring the small, they are both great. I can't wait for sharing patches to be easy. I want to be able to tweak my presets on either device, and easily upload those changes to the other. I don't get why Line 6 announced this upgrade so many months ago - it's unnerving...

Great advice, totally worked for me! I never thought of trying that, because the toggle switch worked perfectly in model mode, so I thought the problem couldn't be a physical problem with the switch. Makes no sense, but fixed it my intermittent toggle problem in magnetic PU mode. So glad you posted this comment!! :)

What is the program on the imac you are using that works well with helix? Can you record yourself along with an other track and not have latency issues?
-
Hi, Sorry for the late response, I don't understand why I don't get notified when people respond. Another "settings" problem... Anyway, the only program I got to work (but not great) is NCH Mixpad, it's a free program. I have some other older programs, an earlier version of Cubase, tried Audicity, these programs don't seem to recognise helix properly. I tried bandlab, what I do is mainly record guitar parts together with backing tracks. Can't seem to get anything to work really well. I went to the Cakewalk website, looks like they are closed down.

I was trying with several free programs, I finally got NCH Mixpad to work. I set the latency to 3ms. Timing sounds about right. I'm using the Helix as Recording Device and Audio Playback, seems to be good, I guess I can finally rid myself of my multitrack recorder.

Hi Everyone, I do a lot of recordings, guitar and backing tracks. I've always done so with an external multitrack recorder. It would be a lot more convenient if I could record on my laptop connecting my helix via USB. I have tried this many different ways and gotten mainly frustration. I wish Line 6 offered their own PC multitrack recorder that was certain to work well with their products. What I wish would work, is like this, I plug my helix into my PC by USB, and plug my headphones into my PC (not my Helix) and pull my backing track into my recording software, play along and record. I have not been able to make this work. The only thing that I got working was plugging my headphones into my helix, playing along with my backing tracks, which sounds good, but the recordings sound crap due to latency. Can anybody advise me, is what I want possible?

Hey there fellow Helix lovers, I found a great soft carry case for my helix, not a backpack. It's an Odyssey BRLDIGITALXL. It's made for a DJ Midi Controller, but it fits and works great for the Helix. I don't personally care for or have any use for the ring loops on the official Helix Backpack, I also don't want any branding on any of my cases if I can avoid it. This case is like an oversized well padded laptop sling bag, huge extra compartment holds all my cables and extras. The Bag comes with a second bag inside, a bag within a bag, I removed that. Check it out! Here's some photos and here's a video review I made. http://bit.ly/Line6HelixCarryCaseAlternative
