The update is not a separate download, however the 175 presets are the same Read the description and follow the links for a few free presets :)
-
Again, if you have a recording made with my presets, I'm all ears :)

I could dial presets with the onboard cabs if I wanted too... I even uploaded a video where I'm comparing one of my IRs and the stock cabs, but it's on Facebook only : https://www.facebook.com/fremen.mu/videos/vb.707502244/10153554081432245/ In short, I wasn't very impressed by the stock cabs. It's like they don't have the same "definition", and they sound more boxy too. Instead I used IRs custom personal that I already knew for specific type of sounds, but which I tweaked to make them fatter as the Helix was thinner sounding than other platforms I used these IRs with. I always feel limited with stock cabs, whatever the platform, because they always represent what an engineer think, say, a 4x12 with V30 should sound like. We each have different ideas about that. And unlike with an amp model, you can change them much. Yes I've tried different microphones, positions, distances etc but I'm still not impressed. For that reason I would never buy/use a guitar processor which doesn't feature the ability to load third party IRs

I would love to see a video of this :)

Thanks guys ! I confess I like my cleans quite squashed, as I have hot pickups... But it's easy to bypass the compressor or make it more subtle ;)
-
Yes, I tried to use dual pickups on those models, but decided to not do it afterwards
-
One of my models is in fact my bridge magnetic pickup. However, it's a humbucker, a Dimarzio Norton, on a JTV 89

Thanks for the suggestions. My big pack is already meant to be like that, a big collection of tweakable tones in many genres. The issue I'm having with the Variax, and it's why I posted the video above and wanted some feedback, is that I like it for clean sounds, but not as much for high gain. Each time I make a crunching tone I want to use the magnetic pickups, not the models :) So it's hard to make presets. But on the video I also used some altered tuning, that made things worse... I'll keep on tweaking !

Not sure about that one currently, for various reasons I'll develop later. What's everyone opinion about this ? Your answers may help me decide what to do...
-
Yes, the addendum is for Helix users that also have a Variax. But most presets will also work great even if you don't have a Variax, only the acoustic ones won't sound the same
-
I uploaded a few Pink Floyd Helix presets for owners of my big pack, it also include my Variax bundle And now working on some new Variax/Helix combos :
-
Write me to the one on my blog
-
Yes Free update for owners of the big pack : 20 presets (some updated, some new), two new IRs, and my Variax bundle
-
I'll think about it ! I already started working on the Variax-ready pack
-
Using an Helix to select different Variax acoustic models. It's really possible to "improve" the Variax acoustic sound using an IR, I made one just for that !
-
Working on a few updates/new presets for my Pink Floyd tones. I will share these for free with owners of the Big Pack when done
-
I can't high cut in the global EQ because of the acoustic simulation presets. So I do it on a per preset basis
-
I didn't used it live yet, only in rehearsals, however I guess I would do as with the Axe-Fx : it will depends on the PA and the acoustic of the venue. I would probably cut at 80 hz for a start

Testing a new idea... it works :)
-
I agree on that, nothing beats a real acoustic guitar. But a piezo-equiped guitar with 3 sigma IRs come damn close. However I was able to have good results with making IRs of an electro-acoustic guitar. It's not the same thing than a good acoustic guitar, but I live, I sounded better with it than the other guitar guitar player in my band, who uses a real electro-acoustic, but of a cheap brand really gasing for an electric with a piezo now :)
-
I tested the Taylor ones with an electric guitar : https://www.facebook.com/fremen.mu/videos/10153688337172245/ I need to get myself a piezo-equiped electric
-
Not trying to play like Gilmour on this customized Pink Floyd backing track ;) instead of learning to fly, it seems that I should learn to breathe ! :)
-
yes, I adjusted them, can't remember the settings though, my Variax isn't home at the moment
-
Yes I'm thinking of all this. Just after the HD update, I was displeased with the Strat sounds so I did a lot of tests, and I also identified the Masonic as the best body for quack sounds. I saved different "customized" Strat models in position 4 (middle+bridge) and I’m thinking of a preset where each snapshot will select a different one. I also have some open tunings for slide work ; I even have a bank, on my Variax, where each "preset" is a different open chord (G, D, A and C), it's fun to strike the open strings, or even harmonics from all strings, and move the selector Here's a demo of the Variax from my youtube channel :
