I've a dog in the house. at least weekly I have to dust fur off of my LT and it got me wondering how much hair has made it's way inside the unit, via the openings for the EXP pedal hinges. I consider myself pretty handy, as I've done many electronics repairs and mods to my pedals, guitars, and amps over the years. I'm just wondering how much of a "project" it would be to blow out any accumulated dust/fur inside my LT. Has anyone done this? I'm wondering if in order to do it properly, I'd need to remove multiple PCB's, and if there's any general words of caution from anyone who's done this before?

I would have except that the very first comment by phil_m makes it out to be mac-specific, and my friend is on a PC. I will now tell him to do it anyway. can't hurt. ty

I told him to make sure he wasn't too many versions behind, before he updated. Pretty sure he said he was already in the 3's, version-wise.

asking for a friend who uses windows (i use mac, so i couldn't help him) He has a Stomp. over the weekend he did the 3.5 update. said he updated HX edit first. After completing both updates he's saying that he sees the Vitriol model in his Stomp, but not in HX Edit when he has the Stomp connected. Not sure if it's worth mentioning but given that my personal LT took all of the 45 minutes L6 said it would, his Stomp updated in around 5 minutes. not sure if that's because the Stomp has less going on than an LT, or if this is a red flag to his woes? Suggestions?

said it sounds good because it does. also mentioned that it sounds good as to not butt-hurt anyone and not come off as hostile or mean spirited, which I wasn't. does it sound great? that's subjective. Why? are the two amps on my wish list horrible? I'm not a gambler but I'd bet if a poll were taken on an non-L6 forum, and the Sunn, along with the two amps from my wish list were on a list with 10-20 other amp models, and people were asked to vote on which ones they'd want in a modeler, I'd be willing to bet the Sunn would get less votes than either of the two I suggested. FWIW, I made a similar comment elsewhere on the interwebs and got a lot of amens, and saw posts from others questioning the Sunn choice as well. But yes L6, don't listen to me because codamedia said not to. I'm just a guy who's money is as green as the next guy's, who made a comment/suggestion. the nerve of ME. ;)

In addition to the message on my screen, I remember there being a 2nd message in the upper-most left corner of the screen and I'm pretty sure it's the message you got. I played around on it for about 3 hours tonight (stand alone and via Edit) and it's been rock solid. maybe I got lucky. given that fact, I'm afraid I can't offer any suggestions as I didn't have to fix anything, so nothing was learned on that front. at risk of pointing out the obvious, did you do the restart while holding down the 9&10 foot switches, and update Edit before you did any of this?

Craig, I've read enough of your articles over the years to know your gear choices tend to lean eccentric! And i say that with reverence. The world has enough people playing through Vox, Fender, and Marshalls ;) I think fender tried re-launching Sunn back in the 90's. I remember the ads- "Stand back. No, WAY back!" BTW- imminent update for your BB of H by chance? Or maybe it already has. Off to sweetwater to check now.

I'll confess to liking the surprise element. But there'll always be the brief unwrapping anxiety- is it going to be wool socks, or the latest gizzmo all the kiddies want?

My whole thing was, sure it's nice to be introduced to an amp i've no experience with, but given a choice, i'd prefer an amp that i've actually sat in a room with and fell in love with...just not enough to drop 3 grand on it! A model of the Smallbox in particular would push my pants because its touch sensitivity is phenomenal...like the Derailed Ingrid. And it sounds incredible. That said, i'm not holding my breath...hope remains though considering Friedman is still a pretty hot/popular brand so you never know... yep, and i alluded to that likelihood. The assurance of more updates also helps w/new Helix sales. How many posts have you seen over the last couple years from people on the fence about spending $1699 on a new Helix now that it's been around since 2015, the concern being that Helix 2 arrives 2 months after said purchase? Of course most of the regulars on here already know that there WON'T be a "Helix 2" and even the current Helix's successor is quite a ways away.

i agree, all valid points. i scratched my head w/the Cartographer too. Yes, the AC20 is a Vox clone, but so is the Matchstick and Divided by 13...albeit steroided-up versions. Maybe L6 feels they've met the Vox quota so fair enough. I mentioned the Friedman Smallbox simply because its dynamic response to pick attack and volume knob responsiveness is off the charts, much like the Derailed Ingrid...minus the "spitty-ness" ...not that that sound doesn't have its applications, it's one of my favorites.

I love sarcasm. Touché. Now, now...there was nothing mean-spirited about my post. Regarding your "for free" statement, I respectfully disagree. Everyone's initial purchase of a Helix family product finances the updates...likely even peoples' non-Helix purchases. L6 is a big, deep pool. Little in life is truly free.

Weird choice w/the Sunn. Maybe the next update will include a Bedrock? ;) I would have much preferred a Morgan AC20 or Friedman Smallbox 50. I'm 54, been playing since '82 , and have NEVER come across a Sunn amp, and i've spent an embarrassing amount of time in many a music store. Thanks for the update L6, it's great, but next time give me something i know, please and thank you. To be fair, the Sunn model sounds good but i can't speak to its authenticity for the aforementioned reason.

Last night I updated my LT to 3.5. I made sure to update Edit first. Followed all instruction. When I it got to the 2nd phase of the update (after the error message L6 said to expect) all appeared to be going well, but then it locked on “93% completed” for a good 15-20 minutes, this 30 minutes in to the update process. Finally Edit said something to the effect of, “update complete, rebooting LT” but my LT never rebooted. Instead it had a message stating that the update had failed. I don’t have the verbatim message because I did post it verbatim last night, reading/typing it right off the LT’s screen, but it never posted here for some reason, so now I’m going off my memory. But I DO know it was a completely different error message than what L6 mentions in the update notes. I waited a good 25 minutes to see if the screen on the LT would unlock and give me a proper reboot but it never happened. I finally resorted to shutting it down. However, when I powered back up it rebuilt all the new presets, seemingly as if nothing went wrong. After that I rebooted holding down the 9&10 footswitches as instructed. After that, everything appeared to be fine and all the new features appeared to be in place. Basically I’m just wondering if anyone else experienced this, and if the “error” message might indicate increased odds that my unit is going to be buggy/glitchy moving forward. Obviously time will tell, but I’m wondering if this situation might warrant a re-install to play it safe?

the only thing about this method that gives me pause is that if the washers touch the light rings on the footswitches, when i push down on the switch the washer is getting pushed into the light ring. how long before the light ring incurs damage? just a thought. BTW- disregard if this comment double-posts. originally replied while signed out.

Sometimes when in Snapshot mode I’ll accidently fat-foot the leftmost FS1 or FS6 buttons when intending to hit either of their neighboring foot switches. Of course this is disastrous while performing as it takes me to a completely different preset. I could have sworn seeing in the manual, at some point, a setting preference that allows one to disable the FS1/FS6 foot switches to avoid this from happening. Either I dreamt this up, or I’m the worst manual navigator because after two passes through the manual, I’ve been unable to find instruction to do this type of thing. Are the FS1/FS6 defeatable in snapshot mode?

sounds like possible dead spot issues due to sympathetic frequency cancellation. see if it gets better or worse if you go up or down a couple frets. obviously notes aren't going to sustain above the 12th fret like they do at the 5th, but they shouldn't decay instantly either.

nice job. my only real criticism is of the backing track. so much better ones out there, like Elevated Jams or Sebastien Zunino to name but two. Party on.

I'm assuming that the legacy effect models were borrowed from the four 4-button pedals(delay, mod, dist/od, filter) that they came out with 20 years ago. if that's the case, their model of the Dimension predates the DC-2W. However if what you stated is true, then the Dimension model is indeed stereo. I'll have to give it a try. I was going on the basis that the Helix manual states that effects that are in stereo will have a little symbol next to them that kinda looks like an infinity symbol. When I was scrolling through the choruses and didn't see that symbol on the Dimension, I thought all bets were off for stereo. happy to be wrong.
