  1. Ok here it is, the free Ownhammer mic files (I haven't done the mixes or quickstart files yet) with proper cabinet and mic file names. Enjoy! https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zy1ppb9in1lpqmi/AABcf9nsn3BNrKI57vkKYkiea?dl=0
  2. I'm working on a little something I'm going to upload here that's the free Ownhammer IRs with the cab and mic type specifically labeled in the file names. That's one of the things I'm having trouble with is the convoluted names some of these IRs are given. I want to know what cabinet and particular type of mic they are and most of them don't seem to do that. The free Ownhammers are pretty excellent sounding though, maybe this will help you guys out so you can see a more specific description of what they are when you load them.
  3. Those free Ownhammer ones are definitely nice, I've been toying with those. The Kalthallens also seem to be pretty good. But there are so many options just between those two even. Do you have any particular ones you really like? You've been super cool btw, I appreciate all your feedback!
  4. So I recently upgraded to the Helix and I'm going down the rabbit hole of IRs. Can anyone help me save some time and recommend a few particular IR models to help a guy out? There are SO many. If they're paid IRs it is what it is I don't really care. I'm after stuff that works good for hi gain sounds. I'm kind of partial to the Archetype Lead and Cali IV Lead sims if that helps at all. I've found a couple of decent packs but sifting through all the options is a bit daunting...Which particular IRs do you folks like, your go-to's so to speak? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks all!
  5. So yeah I know I'm late to the party on this one, but I just got my Helix. On the "Ton of free IRs here" link there is a "Metallica Golden IR Pack" and the King Nothing impulse is quite excellent. Thanks for the links, much appreciated!
  6. I haven't even tried the clean channel of it yet, is it any good? My go to cleans are typically the JC or Twin models, but this Archetype is new to me and I can't even get past the dirty channel yet cause it's so good and fun to play lol.
  7. I'm finding I'm kind of partial to the sound of the amp separated from the cabs. Right now I'm running a Y chain after the amp with two cabs. I'm using the same cab but with different mics, both panned center. I might start mixing and matching cabs but for now the Archetype with two Cali V30's, 57 dynamic on one path and a 7 dynamic on the other, seems to be getting me where I want to be. I just spent the last hour setting up and testing a new template in Reaper for that sweet, sweet added benefit of re-amping. I'm still mind boggled why the X3's had re-amping abilities but the HD's didn't. Re-amping was one of my sell points and it works really well, I'm excited thinking about how much time I'm going to save being able to do that again. God I missed re-amping lol! I really appreciate all the info guys. I'm only on day two with the Helix and while I'm familiar with Line 6's way of doing things, this is a different beast entirely with all the extra stuff you can do beyond the POD's. I know I'm only scratching the surface right now but man am I happy with the results so far. Any input on different tricks you guys have come across are greatly appreciated. I want to know this thing inside and out, the sooner the better so I can get on with the jamming!
  8. Nice, I will take all the free amp sims they want to give us. I'd personally love to see models of a Marshall JVM, an Orange Rockoverb and a Diezel VH4. Not that I need them since the Archetype is so badass, but more options are always good to have in your back pocket.
  9. Sorry for all the questions btw, none of my friends are musically inclined so the only time I get to talk gear is on forums like this.
  10. Did not know about the different mics on combo amps...The depth control I did find though, that was a key factor in my tone. Hella cool feature right there. So was the Archon part of a firmware update? I don't remember seeing it on the initial amp list before Helix released, but I'm old and my memory might be playing tricks on me. Mine came preloaded with 2.11 so it was just there already.
  11. Hot damn, that opens up a lot of options. I'll have to check out some videos to see some of that in action, sounds interesting. Thanks for the input! I still can't get past how much better this sounds than the POD lol. That Archetype has just the right amount of cut I could never get out of any model on the 500X no matter how I eq'd it. I haven't even gone down the rabbit hole of IR's yet, I've just been doing the separated cabs trick with different mics so far.
  12. Finally decided to upgrade from the 500X and holy crap, I'm impressed. Once I set in on that Archetype Lead model I stopped switching hi-gain sims, that one is killer. Nicely done Line 6! I don't really understand what snapshot are though since they are new to me. How and when are you guys using them? I apologize for my stupidity in advance. Thanks!
  13. I think meambobo came to the conclusion it was the mic combinations that caused the phasing issues that cancel or wash out the dual amps. Check out his guide, he has a list of what plays nicely together.
  14. Holidays are typically a good time for sales, not sure about any 20th aniversery sale though.
  15. I've seen some videos on that 333, sounds pretty sweet. I'd make sure to get the infinium version though, apparently they sorted out a lot of bugeras know reliability issues with that series. Can't say that's a fact but I've heard good things.
  16. I use my 500x with reaper as well, great combination for the price of admission.
  17. That controller is pretty sweet. A friend of mine used to have one before he got a house and upgraded to a Marshall half stack. Nice piece of gear for sure.
  18. I'd vote for that. I'd also like to see the percentages of the DEP's when I'm adjusting them like they do with the amp controls. I completely agree on the EQ thing too, that is annoying. I do like the editor though, it's laid out very well.
  19. I agree, at the price point nothing can touch the HD's, not even close. I do know a couple guys who are hesitant to upgrade from their X3's because they can't reamp. The reamp comment in my original post came from a conversation I had with one of them a while back. It's not entirely my own opinion on the matter, but I do agree with some of his points so I threw it in there. The Firehawk is pretty cool, I know another guy that got one recently. The only thing I didn't like about it was the editing software is only for phones and tablets, no computer based option. That's more of a personal preference though, I'm just used to doing it on a computer. Kind of like my other buddy who is used to being able to reamp, sometimes we just get stuck in our ways. I did really like the multicolored footswitch lights like the Helix has and it sounded pretty good too.
  20. Forgot I posted this...stupid beer. It's not to say I'm not pleased with the HD, quite the opposite actually. I really like the tones I get out of it and the flexibility is astounding. I was more trying to say there is still a lot of milage to be had out of these units to keep them fresh and possibly add some things that might sway people who are still on the fence about getting one.
  21. Mine's pretty straight forward. The F-Ball and matching cab with the 57 off axis is my go to combination. I put a Screamer in front with the classic no drive, full output setting with the bass, tone and treble all at 50% followed by a noise gate. The amp drive and bass are usually around noon, I boost the mids and highs to taste, then the presence and channel volume usually end up around noon as well. Rather than stacking a bunch of EQ's I go for the DEP's next. For my default amp settings, I have the Master boosted just a little bit, Sag and Hum at 50%, then turn both the Bias and Bias X all the way down. For the cab settings I don't touch the low cut, I boost the Res a little, maxed out the Thump and rolled off the Decay a some. I typically don't do any cutting of the lows or highs on the POD, I prefer to do those in post production so I have flexibility. It should be noted I don't play guitar live so your needs might differ. That's it, pretty straight forward and I have lots of blocks left over for whatever FX I might want to use. I'm a pretty big fan of the less is more approach. I used to stack a bunch of EQ's but this can get out of hand really quick if you aren't careful. For reference my main guitar is a Schecter C1 Platinum with EMG 81/85's. I like to use an external looper in front of the POD when I'm setting up my sounds. That way I can have a riff playing along with bass and drums while I make adjustments. I picked one up from a pawn shop for dirt cheap and it's saved me a lot of time. My other favorites are the Panama, Elektrik and JCM (metal pack model). barks62, the bass pack is killer. I love the SVT Nrm.
  22. Just curious if anyone knows if Line 6 is done with the HD line now that the Helix is out? I know Helix is supposed to be a separate line of product from the POD's, but is there anything in the pipeline still for the HD's? Do you think Line 6 is waiting on the next line of POD's rather than upgrading the HD's further? Personally, I think the HD's could go for a little more attention, maybe some more model packs to come? A new set of cabinet models and the ability to fully change the mic positioning (X,Y and Z controls) would be awesome. Maybe adding back the amps that are missing from the XT/X3 fully loaded pack too? Particularly the Diezels, Spinal Puppet and JCM 900? The most important one though, the ability to re-amp via USB. Seriously, why is this not a feature on the HD's? The X3 did it, it feels like 2 steps forward with the amp modeling, but 1 step back with the routing abilities and that should not be the case in our age of technology.
  23. Hey all, I picked up a couple new additions to my arsenal recently and I wanted to share my findings with you: I got a pair of JBL LSR305 studio monitors a few weeks ago. My 500X sounds fantastic through these things. I was never completely satisfied with the KRK 5's I had before. They did the job but I felt like they could have sounded better. I can hear things through the JBL's that I'd never heard through the KRK's. They've been a big help in dialing in better guitar sounds. Mixing in Reaper got a lot easier with the added clarity too. The sweet spot on them is huge. I don't have a super large mixing room, but I can be sitting pretty much anywhere and they still sound like they should. I have nothing bad to say about these speakers, they are excellent. For the EZDrummer 2 users, check out the Progressive EZX if you haven't already. I had been using Metal Machine prior to this and while it did sound good, it required a fair amount of extra work to get it to sit right in a mix. I've been getting good results with Progressive's DW kit and I really haven't had to do much additional processing to it. I had the same impression here that I did with Metal Machine vs DFH; compared to Metal Machine, DFH sounded thin and papery. Same thing here. Much more body to the sounds in Progressive. A couple things I didn't like about it: The other 2 kits it comes with don't sound as good as the DW does to me, so I'll probably never use them. The next one is kind of nit-picky, but the DW kit loads with 2 sets of stacked cymbals by default and I just don't care for that sound. Thankfully you can swap them out for chinas, so I did. If you're currently looking to upgrade/acquire either of these things (or if you're just a gear hound like me), I hope this information has been helpful to you.
  24. Update - This seemed to fix itself somehow, I guess it just took a while to stick.
  25. I picked up the model packs this last weekend and ever since installing them I have a weird issue. When I turn my 500X on for the first time each day and load up the editor software, it tells me "model packs detected, please install latest firmware to access them" or something to that extent. So then I load up Monkey, do the do, and it's fine for the rest of the day. I can turn it off, come back later, turn it on and load the editor no problem. The next day I'll have to repeat the firmware process again since it seems to have forgotten we've already done that. Anybody else had this issue and how did you fix it? Time to re-flash and re-install everything?
