  2. silverhead's post in Tie Variax Model to a Helix Snapshot? was marked as the answer
Yes you can assign the Variax Model parameter to the snapshot controller. Not sure about the left click method but you can certainly do it by the usual push/turn the param knob or explicit controller assignment methods.
  3. silverhead's post in Come on with this update!!!!! was marked as the answer
Not weird at all. HXFX and Helix do not run the very same firmware; each has its own flavour of v2.50. HXFX has now been released. Helix will not be far behind, it it's not available just yet.
  4. silverhead's post in Firehawk FX with Headphones - Still Outputting to Speakers was marked as the answer
Yes it's normal. If you don't want audio through the speakers you will need to disconnect them.
  5. silverhead's post in Expression pedal default position was marked as the answer
Make sure you have your snapshots set to Discard changes.
  6. silverhead's post in Looping memory was marked as the answer
Actually you can change presets and retain the loop but both/all presets must contain the looper block in the same location. But the main point is correct - no looper memory.
  7. silverhead's post in Inevitable delay weirdness within snapshots? was marked as the answer
The warbles that you hear are normal in the sense that you would experience exactly the same thing if you were to suddenly adjust the delay time using a traditional analog pedal. Try using two separate instances of the same Delay FX in the preset using the two different delay time settings.  In one snapshot have one FX on and the other off, then switch their states in the other snapshot. That way you're not instantly changing the timing in a single delay 'pedal' - you are using two pedals and neither of them is actually changing their time setting - they're just being switched on/off inversely.
  8. silverhead's post in Simultaneously Turn On/Off 2 Stomp Boxes was marked as the answer
Yes. Assign all three FX blocks to FS1. Manually turn ON distortion and Flanger, and turn Chorus OFF. Save the preset. Henceforth recalling the preset will recall the saved on/off states of the FX blocks, and pressing FS1 will toggle the state of all three FX blocks simultaneously.
  9. silverhead's post in Looper: How to delete a bad first take and start recording another loop? was marked as the answer
You simply start recording a new loop, as if it were your first take. Each time you hit the Record (not overdub) button a new loop is started, replacing any previously recorded loop.
  10. silverhead's post in Helix editor app was marked as the answer
On the Downloads page select Helix in the middle (software) not left (products) field. Read and follow the instructoins carefully. When directed to download the editor program use the Get Download button at the bottom of the instructions panel.
  11. silverhead's post in Issues with quiet (low level) input? was marked as the answer
You may have a gate FX, or something similar, that is cutting the sound out when the signal level is too low. Examine your signal chain and experiment with turning FX on/off.
  12. silverhead's post in Dumb question about FX Loop Block was marked as the answer
The FX Loop block corresponds to the physical loop outputs on the device itself, for external pedals. You position the FX Loop block where you want the external pedals to be placed in the signal chain. It has no relation to the mod and delay blocks, other than their relative positioning. Your external pedals will be patched into the signal chain wherever the FX Loop block sits.
  13. silverhead's post in Firehawk FX Versus Helix and Others (AX8 etc) was marked as the answer
Tone only? No comparison - Helix by a million miles. In this case you get what you pay for. I own both. Firehawk has good tones, and is great for tone matching well known songs and jamming along, especially if you like editing on a mobile device.

But for mind blowing tones? No comparison (imho).
  14. silverhead's post in Helix direct into m20d mixer was marked as the answer
Set the helix XLR Outputs to mic level. Start with the M20d trim at its lowest level and increase manually if necessary.

Also it's important to balance your presets on helix to avoid having to adjust the M20d trim constantly.
  15. silverhead's post in Clipping Helix into m20d direct was marked as the answer
Try setting the helix XLR to Mic level. That's what the M20d XLR inputs are expecting. And start with the M20d trim at its lowest setting.
  16. silverhead's post in Helix to FOH help setting up patches and cables - digital newbie was marked as the answer
The manual is your friend. See page 42 for details. It's in GLobal Settings -> Ins/Outs -> pg 3.
  17. silverhead's post in Question about exporting and importing ir's was marked as the answer
Unfortunately the current IR management procedures in Helix are not sophisticated. Line 6 has said they are working on this and we can expect improvements, but no date has been forecast.

Meantime that's the way it is. Many people, including myself, use a manual numbering system. I add a 3-digit prefix, representing the slot number 001-128, to each IR name after importing the IR. I then Export it to a specific IR folder with the new name. After updating I go to that IR folder, order the files alphabetically (the numbers force the proper ordering of IRs), select them all and drag/drop them in a single operation into the IR area of the Helix editor, beginning at slot #1. It's a pain but it works.
  18. silverhead's post in Pod farm/reaper was marked as the answer
There is a setting in Pod Farm to select the input source. It's on the Mixer page I believe. Set it to Input 2.
  19. silverhead's post in Pod HD500x applying presets to aux input was marked as the answer
You'd have to look at external factors to stop the cd/mp3 input noise. It's coming from your cables, or the external device, or an electrical hum. You need to control the input volume from the external device.

You can use the Aux input but in order to hear it, unprocessed, at the HD500X outputs you need to:
    - create a dual path preset
    - assign Path B Input to Aux (assuming Path A input is Guitar)
    - make sure the path split occurs immediately at the inputs - there should be no FX blocks preceding the path split. This is what keeps the paths completely separate.
    - make sure there are no processing blocks in Path B. This is what allows the Aux input to pass through the HD500X unprocessed, except for an A/D and then subsequent D/A conversion. These conversions are avoided if you use the cd/mp3 input.
  20. silverhead's post in Patches get overwritten and other odd behaviour was marked as the answer
Sounds like you have activated the Lock Tone 2 feature. Turn it off.
  21. silverhead's post in JTV-89F ->mono cable ->POD HD500X -> link6 -> L2t not a dream, yet was marked as the answer
The cd/mp3 input passes directly to the analog outputs of the HD500x. The signal does not go through any analog to digital conversion inside the Pod and hence it is not available for output through the digital L6 Link connection.

However, the loop playback should not be an issue. Have you checked the playback level setting for the looper?
  22. silverhead's post in Different Lights for hd500x? was marked as the answer
No - Line 6 does not have a light colour upgrade option/product.
  23. silverhead's post in SONIC PORT VX and iPhone 7 was marked as the answer
The Sonic Port VX connects to the iPhone using the lightning connector (I think that's what it's called) not the Aux jack.

However, there are about a zillion circumstances in which your question has no good answer. I believe Apple's answer is "We've trapped you. Buy this additional accessory that we will gouge you for in order to compensate for the lack of a ubiquitous and perfectly good decades old standard interface that we've decided to exclude in future products." They may use different words. 😎
  24. silverhead's post in helix/variax tunings trouble was marked as the answer
Is the Drop-d on the Variax built into the model using Workbench, or is it using the Alt Tuning knob? It should work in both cases with the settings you describe, but in the case of the Workbench modified model you have to have the Alt Tuning knob set to Model, not Standard.

As an aside, I was having some alt tuning issues with my JTV and v2.10. These issues disappeared after I disconnected and reconnected my VDI cable at both ends (which I had not done since updating). Go figure.
  25. silverhead's post in What is saved in an input preset compared to a scene? was marked as the answer
When you save a preset it is saved with all current settings in the Preset Library. That makes it available for recall, in its saved state, at any time from the library into any Setup. When you add it to a Setup, a copy of that preset is made and is available as is (and as a basis for further tweaking) in the Setup.

Once in a Setup you can tweak the local copy of the preset without affecting the Preset Library version of the preset. All changes and tweaks you make to the local copy of the preset in the Setup are saved as part of the Setup when you save the Setup. This does not affect the Preset Library version of the preset. When you save multiple Scenes within the Setup, each Scene keeps its own version of all presets in the Setup based on their specific settings when the Scene was saved. A complete copy of all these presets and their settings is kept with each Scene, and each preset has its own specific settings in each Scene. None of these affect the version in the Preset Library.

And, yes, a typical use of Scenes is to define different settings for one or more presets in different songs.

Here's how the manual describes what it saved with a Scene:
A Scene is essentially a snapshot of all your settings within the current Setup. These include settings for processor and FX parameters, channel levels, mute, solo, pan position and monitor send levels.
