The cable is 3 metre long. Yes, I have done the update, first to the HD500 and then the JTV69. The VDI cable was in both cases connectd to the HD and the JTV.
-
Just to let you know that I have now started a ticket about this problem. Will let you know the outcome, hopefully soon.

Thanks!

Just discovered yet another hiccup... Setup: HD500 connected to my laptop with the USB, JTV69 connected to the HD500 with VDI cable supplied with the guitar, left 1/4" out to Spider Jam amp. Laptop powered with DC adaptor. Having problems with groundloop, so I decided to pull the adaptor from the laptop, hence running it with the built in batteries. On pulling the jack off, the groundloop noise stopped (as predicted) but the HD 500 froze... I did not expect this as I have disconnected the power supply off the laptop many times, before the firmware update, and the HD never froze before. Can the freezing problem be associated to some bad coding effecting the -ve Ground connection? Maybe someone that has the same problem I am having could replicate the setup and let us know the outcome?

OK... I have now tried to re install the HD firmware 2.62 but this time wiping ALL of my patches. it didn't change the problem!
-
The extra connection may be the problem for a bad write up... I guess. I have now done several re-installations, reverted both the HD and JTV to earlier firmware. The USB firmware could not roll back. I now notice that the HD will restart itself (with the JTV plugged in) after 10 seconds, then works fine. Also, upgraded only the JTV to 2.21 and the HD rolled back to 2.32 and with the JTV connect to the HD, with the VDI cable, after start up, when I press the ABCD switches, nothing will happen until after 5 seconds, then the LED will switch accordingly, everything goes back to normal.
-
The problem occurred immediately after the upgrade, the VDI cable was plugged in the HD during the update. I know that the cable is OK.

Thanks for the reply. I will try the rollback and submit a ticket.

Two days ago I did update the flash memory of the above mentioned products, to the latest releases. Now my HD500 frezes on start up if the JTV69 is already connected to it, I use the supplied digital cable. The only way it all work is if I first start the HD500 and then connect the JTV69... This is a real pain! Tried to reinstall several times but to no avail. Monkey shows that everything is OK and with the latest software. Have any of you experienced the same problem/bug? Is there a way to revert back to the previous flash memory? Thanks in advance.

JTV-69 replacement nut
line-6-user replied to line-6-user's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I replaced it with the same TUSQ nut, as the the old one was cut too low and I did not want to shim it. -
JTV-69 replacement nut
line-6-user replied to line-6-user's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Finally I replaced the nut with the one mentioned above. All went smoothly, but I did have a couple of strings giving me a problem with some overtone at the beginning, these where eliminated by properly anglein the cut. The replacement nut comes longer than required and a little too tall, nothing a file can't handle. I do have a couple of photos that I could upload but can't see a way to insert a link to photobucket. -
JTV-60 truss rod type
line-6-user replied to line-6-user's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Thanks so much for your reply! I thought it must have been that. Thanks! I was looking for the JTV-69 full specs but I have not had any joy so far. -
What type of truss rod is fitted on the Korean JTV-69? One way or two? I am asking because I cannot get the needed foward bow (more relief), the adjustment exagonal nut has no resistance when loosening but there is when adding back bow. The neck does have a little relief but I woul like a little more.

JTV-69 Headstock String Tension Trees
line-6-user replied to gdgonzal1's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
How about shimming the tuners from behind the neck? Is this feasible? That would lower the tuner... But what would one use? I am surprised though, as mentioned on an earlier post, the high E tuner, although being the same size of the B string one, it is shorter when mounted on the headstock. ???? -

JTV-69 replacement nut
line-6-user replied to line-6-user's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
No worries snhirsch ;). I went to www.graphtec.com to verify the measurements listed on ebay and they are correct. there are instructions on how to mount the TUSQ nut, quite simple really. I also purchased a set of "Hiroshima nut files", as I have 4 more guitars to deal with. I am quite excited to start working on them... can't wait! :D I will take some photos when I start the job and upload them on here. -
JTV-69 replacement nut

I have taken the plunge with the Ebay nut, I believe it will be just fine after sanding. The E to E spacing will only be only 0.32mm narrower from the current position. For under £9 delivered it is worth trying. I have given up taking my guitars to so called "guitar tech" people, after a horrible experience with an highly recommended one. What a cowboy he is! Now I decided to invest in some basic setup tools, I am capable of achieving better result than some "guitar tech", I will be enjoying the experience too. :) -

JTV-69 replacement nut

First of all, Thanks for replying to this new thread. :) Unfortunately I am unable to ad a link the ebay address... the link popup window appears, I past the link, hit OK... nothing happens... ? The seller specifies that the nut is: Length 44.81 Width 3.30 Height 6.48 E to E 34.59 The best measurements that I can take off my existing nut, are: (mm) Length 41.30 Width 3.25 Height 4.81 E to E 35.23 Is this the same on your JTV or have I got something different from original specs? I must add that the guitar it's Korean built. -

I am looking for a replacement nut for my JTV-69. Can someone please let me now where I can buy one in the UK, or... is this OK to use, with a little sanding that is. :) Thanks in advance!

I use the VDI cable at home, not very often, and noticed that the outer sheathing has broken at the guitar end, at the end of the black plastic screw-on cover! I can see all the tiny cables inside. I don't think it will last long. So, I would not be using that for a gig.

Where do you all get your necks from, in UK? What did you pay for them?
