Helix in 9 different styles (clean, crunch, rock & metal demo)
line-6-user replied to GuitarjonSDS's topic in Helix
Awesome sound and playing, man! On other vote for a tutorial, please! -
It's a combination of many things. The guitar on its own won't give you that sound. My American Standard certainly gives me a big array of sound and I am stil learning how to use It. Amp, EQ, Effect, speaker, pickup height and selection, string types and sizes, volume at which is played at, pick type and control, position where strummed, string action and condition. environmental condition and acoustics, fresh set of ears, tone position, volume pot position, nut type........................ Here is the video I did a few years back were I used the HD500 to try building a preset, which I then posted on Customtone. Links below.

Mine was purchase last May.How do people know when their Helix were built?

Let me explain. I have used both condenser and dynamic Mic in the past without problems. The last time I used the Mic, which was a condenser, requiring phantom power. That was three months back. So, I try to setup a Guitar - Vocal patch. Plugged my Dynamic .Mic on the Helix, switched the Helix ON and heard a little pop, like static sound through my speaker. No sound received by the Mic. Thought it was to do with the gain setting in the Global menu. That's where I found out that the Phantom power was on. No problem with the Mic or the lead, hence I believe the phantom power had caused the problem. I submitted a ticket and was told to contact my vendor for repairs. I did so and it was confirmed that the Mic input had to be replaced. I always thought that a damage would be done to a Microphone in such a case, not aware of any mixer being damaged if phantom power is used with a Dynamic Mic.

I hope/wish that the new editor will be a complete (or mostly) mirror of the actual hardware and features, with the addition of a few features such as a notification on the main screen of the 48V phantom power status, a MIDI CC code for the selected preset (both of these also displayed on the hardware screen) and a search menu as found on Guitar Rig 4.At the moment, I have to bend down under the desk in order access the MIDI information which defeats the purpose of an editor. Regarding the 48V... I believe that It is dangerous for the HELIX if a dynamic microphone gets connected when the phantom power is on. It blew the microphone input on my Helix... unless it was coincidence. There is no way to visualise if it is on or off... not until you go through 2 menus.

I wrongly assumed that Native blocks could be automated via MIDI? The 15 days trial unfortunately run out, so I can't check the full potential offered in this first version. I wish the trial was in hours rather than amount of days, as I only had time to try it 3-4 times, in short periods, over the 15 days. Oh well, I'll wait to see what the next version brings.

No snapshots available in Native, not from the saved preset from the floorboard. Maybe possible in the DAW via MIDI but I haven't tried it yet.

I was talking in general. It is great to be able to share, if ones want to but some people just compile a set of tones from various sources on a CD (or a link) and sell it on... possibly without even changing a setting. Nothing against people that create their own and sell them.

I learned my lesson. ;)

It's annoying and frustrating to learn that someone made money from one of your preset, given out for FREE. I have had hundreds of requests to give unreleased preset... people pestering me for them... presets that took several days to make and not even a thank you.
-
Yes, that is what I think too. I guess this is the price we pay relying on this form of technology. Our gigs are on their hands. Nothing we can do trying to repairing it ourselves with a soldering iron. :)

What is an acceptable repair time length on an Helix? After 1 week waiting I thought I would ask its status and was told that the repair centre didn't have the time to look at it yet as they are too busy. Now it's been 2 weeks and I still have no news what is happening. Authorised Line 6 Service Centres are not specific to Line 6 products and undertake work from other brands and from private individuals. I understand that and I accept the situation. I an not made of money and I can't afford a second unit for a backup; yes I do have other amps but these are no match for the versatility and customised preset that work with the JTV guitar. The set list would need a radical change... What are your experiences in this matter and what is Line 6 policy?
-
Ah! Now I get it! In that case I will purchase it. Hopefully Line 6 will update it with the same features as the Helix soon. I love the Snapshots. Some how I didn't see your post and replied to the next one.

Sorry I don't understand. What do you mean by saying "activated Network adapter". The trial software has been activated but if I activate Flight Mode on my laptop, Native won't work. I have 2 days left to test it and I'm doubtful if to purchase it because of the restriction.

Warmouth Necks / Variax Guitars

Really nice! Do you notice any difference in string buzzing between the two different scale lengths? What strings do you use and if you don't mind me asking... what did they cost? -
I have been checking Native free trial and noticed that it doesn't work unless I am connected to the internet. Is this normal? Surely if you pay for it you should be able to use it in places that has no internet.
-
Did Line 6 sorted your problem out? I am having the same problem wit my Helix and just opened a support ticket.

I have used an HD500's two XLR to FOH with master volume set at 2 O-clock. Left 1/4" to a separate volume pedal and from it to an Alto TS212 for monitoring my guitar. FHO MONITOR (mainly vocals) XLR to the second input of my Alto. I could adjust my guitar volume independently from what the FOH received. It worked a treat! Should be the same for the Helix.

I purchased mine from PMT and was told that it's guaranteed for 3 years. 🤓ðŸ‘

Hi there. I had a similar problem with an app for my iPhone and the Helix... as already mentioned it is to do with the time it takes the Helix to process the MIDI request. Once I allowed to send the second request 0.3 of a second later, it worked. It was a bit tricky for me because the second message had to be in hexadecimal ( RAW Data ). Maybe it could be processed even faster... as that time worked form my needs, I didn't try anything lower. Hope it helps you.

I would like a simple addition to the edit program... A preset search applet. One that deals globally and within a setlist. Also, some change to the way the parameters are displayed on the laptop. My eyesight is not the best it could be and the numbers are not easy to see, especially when the slide bar is over the entry field. ...and one more. Please add the Variax guitar model on the top right of the Helix's LCD screen. In YELLOW, easy to see and remind us the current guitar used.

How about adding a thin sheet of plywood or Perspex under the Helix, so that the rubber feet don't sink in the hard foam? I just checked mine for heat, to the touch it's warm, checked it out with a laser thermometer and it read 35 C. This is after four hours running and just sat on the desk. Is the shell been used as a heatsink?

Follow the video on this website and things should get better. https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/207355205-Optimising-your-PC-for-Audio-on-Windows-10%C2%A0 Make sure to disable System sounds in Windows as this will crash the operating system in the event of an alert pop up box or an illegal operation. Asio driver don't like to play with another sound driver.

Any local music shop at the event that can sponsor your band? A nice advert at the end of your set can be beneficial to them (AND LINE 6).
