titchyblackcat
I have a Pod HD desktop to use for recording to a pc My usual input would be 1. Strat' straight into the Pod 2. Les Paul straight into the Pod 3. Either of the above but with an FX pedal between the guitar and the Pod ( Maybe a Wah) The questions are 1. Should I use input 1 guitar and input 2 the same ? 2. Which impedance setting is the best ? 3. How do I adjust the global tone using the Edit on the pc ?
duncann
1. Using input 1 and 2 the same effectively doubles the signal the pod has to work with. Could be good, could be bad. Depends on the tone you want to build. Medium to low gain might benefit from setting input 2 to something not in use. Same for cleans. Higher gains might benefit from both the same. Also depends on what you think is best. 2. No best here either. From lowest to highest, it affects the higher frequencies either less or more. Lower settings muffles or suppresses these frequencies much more than the higher settings. Noticeable but subtle. 3. If you mean adjusting the global EQ on edit, you can't. titchyblackcat
Thanks duncann, I'll have a few hours at the week end to try it out.
pianoguyy
The following may not apply when doing studio work, because in the studio we tweak every setting possible to get 'just the right tone', but then never use that same tone again, so replicating it doesn't matter... Remember, whatever setting you make your sounds on, that is what you need to play them back with. A patch made with Guitar/Same will not sound the same if played back Guitar/Variax. Same with the GEQ. Tweaking the tone of one patch with GEQ, will make all other patches sound off. In the studio, I will do whatever sounds best for who I am working for at the time (which sometimes means using their gear and not mine). But in all other situations, I stick with Guitar/Same/Auto/Global/Studio

The following is only my opinion and what I would suggest... 1. General Approach...If using a Single Amp Tone, turn off Input 2 (set to mic or Vax)....If using Dual Amp Tone, set to same....However, there are some amp models that can benefit from a little extra push from setting input 2 same on a single Amp tone....Park 75 most notably. 2. Since you are using a wah in between, set the impedance to 1M or 3M....higher impedance improves dynamics as well....However, lower impedance can be helpful for taming a really bright guitar...or wah pedal...This one is subjective....You might try lower settings for the strat as compared to the Les Paul... 3. No Global EQ in Edit as duncann indicated already.
