jaeger28
How would you go about doing an authentic EVH Brown Sound? I find this kind of tone particularly hard to get. My attempt using Plexi Jump pushed by a Minotaur, into an IR by Ownhammer. Watcha guys thinking or how would you build it? jaeger28
Maybe this sounds a bit better, Phaser first in the chain and more wetness: https://soundcloud.com/jaeger28/unchaint-wetter
telewest
Hi sounds great maybe try rolling off your tone nob on your guitar sometimes the tone your looking for is found just using your guitar volume and tone nobs hope it helps but I like what you have done already check out Joe Bonnamassa on you tube explaining the guitars own effects unit and how that relates to tone control I now tweak my helix end tone with the guitar setting and it makes a huge difference have fun experimenting

oehman
Sounds better than any VH patch I've tried to create. Did you upload it to Customtone?

However the IRs are an important part of it

richmaes
Hi I realize this is an old thread, but I have a question about the IR's. I can see in one of the uploaded tones that there are 2 IR's. And you mention above that you need them for the patch to work. Is there a way to tell what the IR's are that are required? I think I need to find/purchase those separately, but I am not sure what they are to begin with to even begin looking for them.

Ye gods! O.K. The OP loaded 2 presets to CustomTone: Uncha1NT Smoove Uncha1NT Bright From the comments that accompany each preset: “Needs IRs to function. I use the Ownhammers Marshall Checkerboard with Ed VH Greenbacks. This cab is no longer available, but you can still get the Bogner 412 with those speakers. I used Precise Modern 03 in the upper Cab Precise Modern 02 in the lower Cab. Here is a clip with this patch recorded direct via USB: https://soundcloud.com/jaeger28/unchainnnttt-phaser-at-end” There you go - https://ownhammer.com/collections/line6 I would suggest you talk to the guys at Ownhammer, because things have moved on quite a bit in the last nine years. In fact the Helix Core has been seriously modified, and the whole range of Line 6 cabs have had a major upgrade since then. You could try ditching the third party IRs and try using some of the newer on board models and mics. You may be surprised, in fact as the whole preset is 9 years old, you would be best advised to update both the amp model and cabs to something more recent. Hope this helps/makes sense.
