Going direct to FOH from HD500X or L2T?

Wondering what the consensus is for a live performance situation, I use my L2T for stage volume, should I go to the desk from the output on that or from the stereo XLR outs on the HD500X?

My personal preference is to go direct out of the HD500 1/4" to my stage monitor and XLR from the HD500 to the board.  My logic on that is that I need direct control over my stage mix in order to manage by blend with the rest of the band.  I'm not using stereo since it really can't be effectively represented in a live environment for most of the audience.

Do you sum the signal manually to mono by using an effect or do you just center the panning?

I just center the panning.  Most soundboard folks don't like to pan anyway because of the limitations in representing stereo in a live environment.

The XLR outputs from the HD500 are fairly quiet mic signals (unless you have boosted the volume level significantly somewhere in the patch which risks overloading some internal effects and adding distortion) while the daisy chain XLR outputs from the L2 are line level.

 

I always go:

 

JTV -> VDI -> HD500 -> L6Link -> L2t -> XLR -> FoH

 

Basic volume is set on HD500 with L2t at 12 o'clock and then I use the Valve Comp with max threshold and output controlled by Exp 2 to control volume while playing.

 

I use the L2t in 60 deg monitor position in front of me.

 

We don't have a sound guy, so I control the volume boosts when needed

True the XLR outs from the HD500 are mic level, but that's no problem for a mixing board.  You just gain stage the signal during sound checks in the mixing board's pre-amp appropriately as you would all other line level or mic level signals line level or mic level and there's no risk whatsoever of overloading.  Unless, of course, you change you master volume on the POD.

If I wanted to carry amps, I would be carrying amps instead of going modeling. So, yes, I go direct. Guitar=>Pod=>Mixer 

 

Every show/band is different, so I no longer have any "rule" for the pan.

This is the best way.I used a DI box for a long time but now I just use the XLR on my HD500.Less cables is always better!

So far I just go single 1/4 out from 500x to direct box and then xlr cable to mixer. Haven't tried the XLR outs from the POD.

Had first experience with this live when my band opened for Between The Buried and Me the other night, went HD500X -> L2T -> FOH, worked really well, and got compliments on my tone, also could hear myself more clearly than ever before, very pleased with this setup!!
