Has anybody tried to record a vocal track using exclusively Helix?

Yes until I unplugged and replugged the mic and it burned the mic amp out ... So be careful

But sounds nice and transparent

Please specify how to operate safely without damage anything.

What is the danger?

have the vocals been recorded using only Helix as preamp and effects?

Not 100% sure but don't have phantom power on when you plug in a mic

Now granted its not a great idea but there is no external indicator or switch so if that is what caused it ... There may be trouble ahead

Yes that track was an MXL condenser straight into the helix

So now Helix is damaged.

I posted this one once before, but I recorded everything through the Helix. Vocals were recorded with a Sure SM7B. They were recorded straight, just using the Helix as an interface, then processed in the DAW.

Are you a pro?

Ok are there precautions to follow? when i plug or unplug the microphone and about phantom power.

What is the best way to operate to avoid voltage peaks that can damage Helix.

I wasn't consciously cautious about anything. I am in the habit of connecting a condenser mic before turning the phantom power on so I probably did that in this case, but otherwise no particular procedures or thought processes.

As am I

I simply unplugged and replugged it because the cable was stuck under the piano stool :)

Shouldn't be enough to cause the amp to burn out

I would be careful about using that particular cable again, I wonder if it is shorted. That still would hopefully not be enough to cause the mic board/circuit to fry though. Shorted cables happen all the time.
