WickedFinger
Just got my Helix yesterday and bumbling my way along using whatever sources I can find. Noticed on the unit if I turn down the volumes, even slightly on my LP the level just drops off to nearly nothing. Never experienced this on any rig or anything before. Not my guitar. something in the Helix. I am used to changing the controls on my LP for different tones all the time. Do I have something set weird??? I have run things at half way many times in blend and so forth and have never had an issue like this. Now this has been in my headphones as I do not have anything ready yet to plumb into the main rig.
rvroberts
You definitely got something set weird! Helix responds pretty much exactly like a valve amp - your volume is part of your control system. I suggest you dive into this thing - take an empty preset - see how to access the user presets and go there. Now add an amp you know what to expect from. You need an amp and a cab minimum. (Makes sense doesn't it?) Now just play that and see what you get? Important Try a drive pedal - play with the values and get a feel for it - really exactly like it is with an amp and a pedal - if its not, you are doing something strange or your system is faulty. For anyone to help you past this point we need to know what you are connected to and how you are connected. (maybe just phones for a start?) Although, this setting is a per preset thing, so if you're seeing the same thing across multiple presets, I'm not sure...
WickedFinger
Well this was an idiot thing to be sure, turns out the guitar was in the wrong jack and the input structure was all off. Once I got everything right when I moved the unit, presto, major tones. So all is cool, just a little overwhelming at first getting used to it. To add to that I lost my PC in a massive crash and burn and just got a new PC so I was working on several fronts trying to get everything going. My new PC Windows 10 w Explorer 11 will not open and run the L6 install file for some reason. Some are saying this "Edge" feature is causing it but no notions on how to make it stop. You try and open the file and it is a page of machine language. Not enough trying to get into the Helix with its infinite scope the new PC and loading up everything took me hours and hours today so I blame my other goof on just being exhausted. silverhead
.......My new PC Windows 10 w Explorer 11 will not open and run the L6 install file for some reason. ......What do you mean by the L6 install file? If you are talking about the Helix editor/app, that installer can be run directly on your computer. If you are talking about the Helix firmware, that file is not run directly. It is run by the Line 6 Updater program which is also installed when you install the editor. If you are trying to install the latest firmware update you need to follow the installation instructions carefully. Start by downloading and installing the editor, Line 6 Updater, and the latest driver. Then run Line 6 Updater to install the Helix firmware on the device. Works as expected.
WickedFinger
Well its a confusing time here in the Helix camp ground. As I understand the situation, on the download site the first post is NOT the 2.01 update file, it is a FLASH memory update not the main 2.01 update. Why or how you use that file is a mystery to me but it confused the crap out of me for some time as you get a page of source code machine language if you try and download it. So the 2nd post from the top, header on the left upper corner is the 2.01 correct file. I switched over to my Chrome anyway as I just like it better. Anyway all is cool at this point. Moral to this story is: read the left header ID of the posted update. Once you have the installer update it will take care of itself from that point on, you just plug in and run it and it will list the current updates. So sorry if I confused anyone and maybe if you had the same thing happen now you know it was a Flash memory file and not the update.
