sosmusic
I have a JTV-59 in excellent condition. It had the plink issue, I went on workbench and lowered the piezo volume and resolved the issue. Having sorted this I felt fine about trading it in. I took it to the Local store i purchased it from to put it towards a Helix, ( a very reputable national chain that I have an excellent relationship with ) and the best they would offer me is $500 !!!! Their reasoning was that every JTV they have sold had to go back with some sort of issue or another and were very nervous about taking one on trade !!!! I understand their reasoning, but it looks like I am stuck with it now as it is passed warranty !!!! I AM FURIOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So careful folks, it doesn't look like they hold their value at all. SERIOUSLY,,,, PISSED,,,,,, OFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
stevekc
Thats common for a three year old digital modeling guitar http://line6.com/support/topic/22092-differing-neck-and-body-profiles-in-jtv-59/ I purchased a JTV-59 back in 2013. Their reasoning was that every JTV they have sold had to go back with some sort of issue or another and were very nervous about taking one on trade !!!! Spoken from an experienced GC sales manager. My 2011 JTV-59 had to go back to Line-6 to replace the toggle switch but now they are available here: http://www.fullcompass.com/product/458044.html See all Full Compass replacement parts for Line-6 guitars here:http://www.fullcompass.com/category/Guitar-Parts2.html?brand%5B%5D=LN6 Very few high tech guitars with built in CPU / DSP's hold their value - they tend to track the same decline as a used laptop from similar year as the Variax - For example a 2013 laptop PC that sold for $1500 back in 2013 is now worth about $500-$600 today Look at Ebay and the prices of 10 year old 1st gen Variax 300/500/700 which is why modding a Variax to your liking is the way to go- (see mine on my avator on the left - JTV-59 with Bigsby) I just purchased a 2nd JTV-59 (used $699 - I love the Neck profile ) - and will remove all Line-6 DSP bits - and replace with Antares ATG DSP instead ( like James Hetfield recently did) http://www.autotuneforguitar.com/products/products.php?category=Custom_Installation_Kits_7 Their reasoning was that every JTV they have sold had to go back with some sort of issue or another and were very nervous about taking one on trade !!!! Rocco_Crocco
How much did you think they would offer you? They have to make a profit when they go to sell it. $500 for a trade in actually sounds like a decent deal.
stevekc
Agreed- GC will give you $500 for your old JTV-59 - then put in on the sales floor for $800 and sell it in 3 months and make $300 profit - its common practice. I say - sell it on Reverb https://reverb.com/p/line-6-variax-jtv-
Charlie_Watt
Most of these stores screw you on trade-in's. I would never do it. Sell it yourself and you get their profit that they factor into the deal. You should not expect to get a lot more than that for a used guitar out of warrantee that is based on modeling electronics.
Rocco_Crocco
You could try to sell it yourself for $800. I don't think you would get that much... for a little more than $100 more I could get one brand new shipped from Sweetwater. You could try to put it on Reverb for $800. You'll have to pay to ship it. You could end up getting a crappy buyer (if any at all at that price) who can decide to screw you over and return it after a month (paypal will side with him). Craigslist? It will sit for months at $800 like all the JTVs on my local CL. Ebay? Seller fees out the wazzu. A $500 offer on a trade is nothing to get furious over. They have to make their profit, too. I hope I don't come across like a Debbie Downer. Just trying to be realistic. Good luck with your sale.
cruisinon2
Most people wildly over-estimate the value of the things they own. Paying "X" dollars for something is meaningless the second your feet hit the sidewalk with it. With the exception of certain gem stones and precious metals, there's hardly anything you can buy that will "hold its value". Fancy electronics aside, it's just another mass-produced electric guitar. They're a dime a dozen...If you can get back half of what you paid for it with minimal effort, I'd call that a win.
sosmusic
Sold my 59 privately on Kijiji the day for $800. I am happy with that ( so was the chap who bought it :) ) . Now to put the $$ towards a Helix :))))))))))))))))))))
Rocco_Crocco
Ahhh you're Canadian... now the $500 offer doesn't seem so attractive. I thought you were talking about US money. Congrats on the sale.
sosmusic
Haha, sorry i forgot to mention that part !! Yeah the Canadian $$ is not fairing so well right now. I forget often that most of the people on the forum are south of the border too. Thanks again !!!!
