HD500X DAW dry/wet recording

Hi guys,

I'm currently recording using my hd500x as USB interface. I made a few patches where the dry signal comes panned hard left and the wet signal panned hard right.

Everything fine. I need to wet signal to get a feeling of the tone during recording. But the dry signal is quite weak. The most important thing for me is to have a perfectly clean dry signal withe the best audio quality possible.

So what exactly does the hd500x do when I turn the path of the dry signal to for example +5db? Or even +12db?

What would you suggest how to record? I haven't heard a difference in audio quality between the hd500x and a focusrite studio interface. What are your experiences? Thanks!

There's nothing mysterious about the mixer block...+5dB is +5dB. As long as you're not clipping, then all is well.

I've never been able to hear a difference between direct USB recording and using an interface either (I have the Focusrite 2i4). With one less round of A/D conversion, the USB connection is at least theoretically the "purer" of the two signals, but in practice I doubt I could tell the difference if you paid me. YMMV...

It's normal for the dry signal to be weak. That's what you want in order to reamp/process it in your DAW. Have you tried doing that yet? If not give it a try and see if you have difficulties with the weakness of the signal.

thanks for you quick response. But how does the mixer add these extra +5db? And does it make the signal worse somehow?

And of course the dry signal is lower than the amplified one but it seems to be very low at the hd500x...
