Looking for a cab or IR that keeps a good deal of high end

In this application I'm using not a guitar, and I'm finding a lot of the cabinet models take the high end off the sound. I'd like to retain the high end like you would find in an acoustic amp, but something to add some warmth to the sound maybe.

If a cab model isn't what I'm looking for, am I really looking for a kind of preamp (the studio one probably) or something else?

If suggesting an IR, free and easy to download only please.

Are you mic'ing your bassoon? If so, the mic preamp model may warm things up. I wouldn't use any of the cab models.

Or maybe try to find some ir of analog channel or preamp or even eq.. maybe some Neve or Pilates? you can find a lot online, even specifically taylored to the kind of instrument you are amplifying..

I guarantee there isn't a bassoon specific cab model out there. :-)

bingo!

Using a piezo kind of pickup though, not a typical Dynamic/Condenser microphone, and it's to the guitar input jack.

I think though yeah, if I need the sound the best bet is no cab model and try some preamp models.

Just remember there are no rules. Yes, typical acoustic instruments, horns, etc., will sound better without a cab or IR model. However, I have found that sometimes things work out differently than you would expect. For example, I sometimes use a cab/IR to warm up my mandolin. It thickens the tone and removes that overly bright penetrating tone (that my wife says covers the whole house). I also found that Timah! works really well with mandolin to give sweet sustain, especially when playing slide (yes, I do play some slide mandolin). So, just like a guitar speaker turns a magnetic pickup into something we really like, maybe the same could be true for other situations. Might be worth a try with that bassoon.

I'd love to hear what you are doing with Helix and bassoon. You have any tracks you can post here?
