bc05
Hey all Is there a universally accepted ideal string brand and / or gauge that the Variax jives with optimally? I have been using 13's of the ELIXIR brand (for longer string life) and I typically tune down a half step and to drop D a fair bit. I'm happy to change to another brand if it helps... Thoughts? psarkissian
Not so much the Brand as it is the gauge. 12 gauge set is as high as I would go, or have gone with these. D'Addarion XL-110 is the factory set with Line 6 guitars. It will need a serious set-up after changing string gauges to a set with 13's. It'll need work, yes... but he did say he's tuning down a half step, and then drop D on top of that. So those 13's ain't really 13's...likely closer to 11's in standard tuning. psarkissian
12's wouldn't be so bad, but 13's is do'able, but is pushing it.

So what would you say is the optimum, not too thin, not too heavy, gauge to use for the JTV59 scale length and the JTV69 scale length? specracer986
12 set is as high as I would go. I do a lot of bending, and my old fingers would probably break if I tried bending 12's on a 25.5" scale length set up high. I'm really hoping the next generation of Variax has a new piezo system that raises the bar. I'm hoping!!
