fernandezjw
Hi everyone! I got my Hx Stomp the day before yesterday, updated (as recommended) an plugged into my pedalboard. Everything works great, except for the background noise. I decided to unplugged everything, even different electrical outlet and with/without a furman electrical conditioner, even unplugged the guitar and left just the hx stomp directly to the amp... same noise. If I analog bypass the Hx Stomp there is an almost absolute silence (even when the rest of my analogs are on the send/return, and the guitar on the input). All inputs/outputs are on inst mode If I change the output to line, the noise (and volume) increases (as it should be). If I turn the hx stomp on, the noise is there just when it fully load (quiet on loading). The noise is there on every preset (some are more noisy, expected on fuzz effects or so). Noise is not volume related, noise is the same if I turn the hx stomp volume max or min. Noise is present even on FX or DIR effects Noise gate will not improve the noise itself (but I'll try to work with it today) So, I think this is just config related noise. Any advice will be really appreciated. Thank you for reading!
rd2rk
Can you describe, or better yet, record, the noise?
soundog
Also ...try some other troubleshooting. For example .... start with "nothing" : no guitar plugged in and monitoring with headphones, do you hear the same noise (with volume knob up or down)? Do you hear noise with a blank preset (no blocks in the path)? Gotta figure out if its a faulty Stomp or if the noise is coming from somewhere else and just being amplified by the Stomp. guitarboy_02451
If you have an amp/cab in your signal path, and you are plugging from the Stomp into the front-end of the amp, there will be noise. Did you create a signal path of just effects? You should not have any amp/cab models in your chain when going to the front end of the amp. What kind of effects? Delay? Reverb? Start with just the two basics... a simple delay and reverb and see if you get any noise.
fernandezjw
Hi, thank you for your answers. Tha audio is my amp, volume crancked up (to make it more evident). And the Hx Stomp is on, working with a clear preset (42C) and the noise changes with analog bypass on and off. Also, no noise on headphones output. edit: using a TRS cable to my monitors, I also have no noise. So, i supose this is balanced/unbalanced situation. But I can't find a config other than inst/line Noise.m4a
rd2rk
If there's no noise in the headphones or the monitors, you're hearing the sound of your amp. With a New Preset, even with single coils and the Stomp cranked, my Stomp is dead silent in both bypass modes. The only suggestion I can make is to do a Factory Reset (reboot while holding FS 2+3 - DON'T FORGET TO BACKUP FIRST!).

Id say it's things after it, or EMI.
fernandezjw
Yes, maybe. If I could "adress" the issue I'd blame Balance/Unbalanced output, as the noise is not there if I use the monitors.

guitarboy_02451
1.) Please tell us or upload a picture of what your signal path looks like for the Stomp, I.E. What do you have assigned to the blocks. 2.) Please tell us or upload a picture of your signal path, out of your guitar ---> stomp ---> amp. 3.) Please make sure you DO NOT have the USB plugged into a computer where audio is also getting routed too. (USB 1-2). Remove the USB cable from the back of the Stomp if you have that plugged in. I run a stomp on my pedal board and have a patch set for "Front of Amp." It's ONLY FX, no amp models, or amp cabs... My amps (Dr. Z's) are so quiet I could hear a pin drop. Thank you for your answer... 1. The noise is there even on empty presets, even on DSP bypass. So no path at all. 2. The noise is there with just the stomp plugged into my fender blues jr, with no other cable attached. 3. No cables USB included. If I connect my studio monitors instead of my amp (via TRS - balanced), they are so quiet.
rd2rk
If Everything works fine in all other configurations except through your amp, your amp, or something between the Stomp and your amp, is the problem.

Definitely. After further tests, if i get the output of the hx stomp using ts cable to my presonus interface... is deadly silent. so, I tweaked my amp, and with treble on 2 (of 12) and no reverb, I get silence. But I still want to understand the why. thanks for answering, man!
rd2rk
IIRC, the Blues Jr has no FX Loop. Set the Stomp Outputs to INST. Don't use amps, preamps or cabs in your presets. With that amp, your HXS functions best as a simple pedalboard. If you want to utilize the amps/cabs, dump the Blues Jr for an amp with an FX Loop. Or get an FRFR cab like the L6 Powercab (or Friedman ASC10/12 or other designed for guitar FRFR). Or get a HR FRFR108/10812 (or any similar PA type powered speaker). Or get a separate power amp (SS or Tube) and one or two guitar cabs. Bottom line your amp ain't designed for use with a unit like the HX Stomp.

Totally agree... my hxs was intended for studio recording, and for my amp only for the digital fx (mods) that I don't have on my pedalboard. I do use the inst output, actually. Your info is really helpful, thank you so much! Edit: even on an fx loop, I enjoy the natural sound of the amp, so no amp/cab on hxs
