Right! Where do I start…

I love my DT25. I talk about how great it is on my live streams (thousands of viewers). To my friends. To fellow guitarists. I get compliments on its tone etc.

However… As of two days ago, the power transformer is now dead! Fuses blowing.

Contacted Yamaha Europe and Line 6. The service centre have just told me…

THE PART IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE!! WTF???

THIS IS A CURRENT PRODUCTION PRODUCT that has had many known transformer issues… AND YOU CAN’T GET IT FIXED???

Literally said to me I have NO options!

Seriously Line 6! What do I do now?

They are EH and made in china AX7. The amp has been totally fine and sounding awesome and then suddenly went to turn it on and the fuse blew. Ordered a load and same again. Just blows each fuse. Valves are working fine as I’ve put them into another all tube amp.

it’s the fact that i have been told by Like 6 it’s not repairable due to the power transformer no longer being a part that can be ordered, and after lots of discussion with the service centre here, I am 100% sure it is the transformer. What do I do now? It’s a dead amp and no way of fixing it!

I really think this is crazy for a current production amplifier being sold. Am I wrong here?

Check with (phone or email) E&M Electronics in Milton Keynes near Bletchley (about 90 mile south on the M1), or my friend Mark Wright at Mark Wright Music

in Northampton (about 70 miles south of you on the M1),... see if they can source one. I just checked with Support here, apparently, what ever parts might

still be out there is what's left, whoever might have one on the shelf. Mark used to be a tech at Line 6 Rugby, back when we had a location there.

It’s the tech at E&M in Bletchley that I’ve been talking to about this. He spoke to Like 6 Germany who informed him about the part being unavailable.

does this mean the DT25 is being phased out? I can only presume that would be the case.

But I still have the problem of an amp that is totally defunct. To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. I don’t know. I don’t mean to be angry but I am.

And I have been looking at second hand DT amps because I genuinely think they sound fantastic. But if I get one and the same thing happens (or something else) then the support won’t be there. Does not fill me with any confidence at all.

This is a nightmare, I am not an electrical engineer but I do wonder if it would be possible to repair or refurbish the existing transformer rather than replace? I don't know my knowledge in this area is zero. I own a DT50 and the Transformer has gone for the 2nd time. It was repaired by line 6 and worked for a couple of weeks before going again after coughing up out of my own pocket. I speculate this is a huge reason we don't see this amp in production anymore. Shame because the amp is incredible when working.

Yeah it’s truly shocking!

I’ve had no luck at all. And the only advice I’ve had is to get a second hand amp and use that or swap the transformers out…

I won’t be buying Line 6 again.

however. for you DT50 owners. I did find a very interesting post online and it turns out a US company makes a power transformer for the DT50. see below.

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/mytubeaudio.com/2016/11/11/all-the-way-to-mercury-and-back-for-a-line-6-dt-50/amp/

Here is a link to the US transformer.

https://www.mercurymagnetics.com/?s=DT50&post_type=product

Read the article though.

Anyway. Goodbye Line 6.

It is a shame because I also think the DT amps sound really, really good.

But, I bought this amp a few years back and it has a fault. Not only that, but a common fault that Line 6 know all about and there is no option for repair.

I could go and buy a brand new one right now from a Line 6 dealer. That’s my option. Or a second hand one.

And my irreparable current one just goes in the bin!??!

This is insane. It’s like Apple saying that your current production iPhone is non repairable because we can’t get the specific part as a separate spare?

Utter madness.

I own two DT 25 amps. One has some issue with the EL 84 's (red plating) but can be fixed by my authorized Line 6 service point here in the Netherlands.
The story above, scared me aswel and I started some searching on the web and stumbled on another story that I would like to share with you all (link below)
I surely hope Line 6 will take action to correct their errors and live up to their quality claims.

I always thought the transformer issues were pretty much with the DT50 amps, not so much the DT25. I’m sure you’ll find reports of blown transformers here and there for the DT25, but with the DT50 I believe there was an actual technical bulletin issued about them.

That may be… Doesn't change the fact that if you want service support for your DT25 (transformer in my case), then there is NO HELP. Parts NOT available.

But I can go buy a new one no problem!

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not criticising the amp itself. I loved my DT25. It became MY sound. My issue is with the quality of support and customer service that has pushed me to an alternative brand.

Right now, there are shortages on all sorts of parts in the electronics industry, so I guess it’s not clear to me if they are going to not shop that part at all in the future, or they can’t source them at the moment. Obviously if they’re still building them, they have the part, but it might be that they aren’t actively building them right now. Some of these older SKUs seem to be built in small runs.

It was made very clear to me by Line 6 there are no plans to get transformers.

By whom at Line 6? There really isn’t one single person who speaks for them most of the time. You can get different answers depending who you talk to. The fact is if they’re still available as new, I believe they are required to honor the warranty, so that means they’ll need to have some parts available some way or another.

I might send a message to Frank Ritchotte about this… He’s usually the guy that has the answers. I’m curious myself.

Don’t know why you’re being difficult mate. Ring them up and speak to them!

Not trying to be difficult. I’m just saying I’ve seen it happen quite a bit where the European counterparts tell people something different than what the main office is in the US tells them. It comes up quite often on Facebook.

  • 10 months later...

My DT25 stopped working about 3 years ago. I have taken to 2 different Amp repair specialists and they have both said they simply can't get the transformers. There is no supplier anywhere in the world and Line 6 will not help. I myself have done extensive searches globally to no avail. Its an unacceptable disgrace to leave your customers who purchased products in good faith with Zero options just because you want them to buy something else from you, known as aggressive marketing, but allow retail outlets to still sell the product. So my DT25 has been sitting there gathering dust. I have a DT50 which is now having problems, cant wait for them to screw me on that as well.
