Help creating preset from zero

Hello, I'm quite new with Helix Floor.... since now I always used presets done by others but I would like so much to be able to build them by myself.

So today I tried a lot but I'm facing a strange issue which I don't know if it's normal or what I'm doing wrong,

I own an Ibanez Jiva10 with pandemonium pickups which seem to be a little bit hotter than normal passive ones, and when I have a totally empty patch I can hear the sound of guitar which is ok, no clipping no distortion and it's ok.

However when trying to use amp + cab models, in the 90% of cases I always get distorted output, I'm quite unable to get clean sounds from quite the whole list of amps on Helix floor....  to me it doesn't sound normal.... am I right?

I'm using a pair of Audio Technica ATH-m50x headphones to check the shoud so I hope they are telling the truth.

(I also have an headrush FR-112 but at home it's better to use headphones for peace of mind of daughters and wife... lol...)

I tried already to enable guitar in pad but still quite every amp model is distorted and I cannot get a nice clean sounds to start and add effect to... :(

Second question is that I don't know very much about effects chain and I don't know what could I do if want to have both a clean channel and a distorted one in just one patch.... as if I was using a normal guitar amp with pedals connected....  (to do clean parts and distorted ones)...    in fact I'm quite puzzled about the sense to add distortion pedals to already distorted amp sounds....  probably I'd need some guide or books to learn from the basics....

Anyone can help ? (I already lost a lot of time experimenting but I suspect I'm missing something and I'm a bit lost...)

One thing you could try to mess with is the input impedance. It's probably currently on AUTO. Try the different settings on that. Otherwise just put a GAIN block right after the guitar and turn it down until you get what you want. Two quick suggestions.

Hi,

If you want to learn about using your Helix to build tones, then this is possibly a very good place to start. Jason has lots of videos, some of which are really in depth, but here's a quick example of creating a tone from scratch.

Here you have Clean and Dirty using snapshots

Hope this helps/makes sense.

Ok, I'm still trying and I found that reducing drive option obviously seems to make cleaner sounds... but I found that on many amps if I reduce drive the output is very low on volume... is that ok? At that point I can raise it up with some other block ? Is it a correct way?

There is a channel volume in the amp block, you can use that to balance back.

If you have very hot pups, I still suggest to start from guitar volume. Sometimes even just a little notch under 10 it's enough to move from the edge to a safe clean zone.

Ok guys, thank you for all the videos, at the end I decided to try to test better the pad option and using it with the new 3.50 factory presets seem to be a lot better than before...  I don't know if that's a placebo effect or not but to me it seems that Ibanez Jiva10 pickups definitely need to be tamed a bit using the guitar pad to ON.

Moreover the presets of 3.50 fw sound a lot better to my ears... but maybe it's just the pad option...

Finally I have clean sounds where I want cleaner...

Anyway after lot of weeks of struggle I'm starting to hear very nice sounds from this excellent gear :D
