Variax 500 with MacBook M1 OS Ventura

Recommended Posts

I'm considering buying used Variax 500 (I had one years ago and I miss it). I'm now running a much different set up computer wise. Do I need to be considered WRT the software for the Variax 500 and my MacBook M1 running OS Ventura?

Thanks!

The V500 is compatible with the Variax Workbench product, not Workbench HD. According to the Downloads page Variax Workbench is supported on Mac OS up to and including Mountain Lion. So I expect it won’t run on your Ventura machine.

But I’m not a Mac guy. Perhaps others can help you get it working.

What silverhead said, original Workbench won't run on an Mac using M1.

If you still have or can borrow an older Mac for this purpose, that might work.

It's why I still keep and use a couple of previous revision Macs.

Always check the Downloads page for compatibility.

Thank you silverhead.

  • 7 months later...

6 months late to the party but I know the feeling OP.  Luckily, gots a good SSD MBP stopped updating @Yosemite.  Couple oddities to point out from my experience.

1). If you feel like something should be happening try turning the volume pot.  Seems to trigger the software to move on instead waiting to time out.

2). Once finished with the connection I always need to force quit to fully shut down.  After saving edited models of course.

Lotsa life left in these old Gen 1's.  Especially running XPS power supply A/B foot switch.  Something 'bout the acoustics sound really good out XLR. Wound 3rd string even better IMHO.
