chugzilla
ok i have done the update and like always i did the backup and full factory reset and brought everything back in and it works and possibly even sounds better than it ever has. now i won't be taking advantage of anything new in this update because i bought and use professional presets that have always sounded amazing since day one. now these are the best presets i have bought to date and they are so good I'll never waste my time trying or buying anything else. if anyone else is interested this is the link down below. so, IMO if you can make you own or buy professional presets then these updates most likely will only make the unit sound better and not change the preset in anyway and that's a good thing because they are amazing and don't need to be changed. maybe one day ill mess around with the new features but i haven't yet in any update i just do them because I'm the type of person i update EVERYTHING on my pc when it has one lol. now if they can only fix the windows 11 driver problem with memory integrity, I'll be really happy !!@!! Did anyone play with the new amps and cab system? Do they really sound better than legacy cabs? And if so, any recommendations for mics, cabs, settings, etc.? I've been mostly using the best IR in the world, I think this new cab looks promising, with the diagram, which btw you can move the mic location & distance from, might be a bit more intuitive than legacy cabs. I'm guessing that the more you move off-axis, the more the high end will be subdued, and I guess maybe the mids and bass will be affected too. I'm hoping that it's somewhat linear, and you can somehow wrap your head about what moving more off axis will result in, which will allow you to easily tweak the sound, but I think it might still be more like trial and error... (won't have constant effect, and might vary by cab and maybe even mic...!)

If the $$ doesn’t matter I would get the Stomp. Just be sure that you won’t be disappointed heaving only 3 footswitches.
wagdog
Well, after reading about the issues caused by the upgrade, I held my breath and installed 2.0… Went off without a hitch. I don’t know if it’s confirmation bias, but I have to say the pod go seems more responsive and livelier. I’ve only played around with the “dumble” model and man, it sounds great! I love having a gain channel. Hopefully there won’t be any show stopper bugs with this update ‘cause I kinda need my pedal for a gig next week. There’s always a flurry of update issues reported here immediately after every new firmware release on any product. In the vast majority of cases it’s because people didn’t follow the instructions. I’ve noticed that after they successfully install by following the update recovery instructions only a few return to tell us that, so it’s reasonable that you might anticipate issues. It’s always a risk to update any device when you need it soon. Personally I wouldn’t have done it now with a gig next week. Glad it worked out for you. I think if there were any real show stopper bugs they would have been found by now.

As for the rest of your questions - experiment and decide for yourself. Let us know what you think. Yeah I played a little with it on the weekend, it might be placebo, but they did seem to sound a lot better than the legacy cabs... Or even random downloaded IRs. It might be that the default settings are just better (cab + mic + mic & other settings), but I think it was with the Archtype lead amp and I could just switch amps or even cab settings, and just playings afterwards, and it just seemed to sound great! In contrast, I had largely given up using cabs/IRs, and instead majority of time just used the best IR in the world... Maybe there was some sort of issue with the original cabs which made some (most?) mic/cab/settings combinations sound not great, as I clearly recall having watched vids where people compared the PGO stock cabs with different IRs, and after slight tweaks like EQ and stuff they sounded pretty much identical... So strange, I do think they're better, but might have been old cabs needed specific tweaking to sound good, whereas new cabs don't and sound better with random/misc settings... I'll likely play more with it, revisit stock cabs and IRs, and try to figure out if or how much they really improved, but at this point, seems like they did! 0.o Yep, first thoughts; great upgrade from old stock cabs! :D Which btw seems to correspond to everything I've heard about the new cab system, which could have influenced also my early thoughts... (placebo?) lol
silverhead
The new cabs are actually a kazillion individual IRs, packaged to be selected based on the imagery of cab and mic selections and placement. Each time you move a mic even a tick in any way a new, specific, previously captured IR is selected. That’s completely different from the old cab/mic architecture. A commercial IR package includes many individual IR files, and are packaged to be selected in more or less convenient ways. Usually it’s done by some sort of naming convention that identifies a particular cab and mic with one or moe mic placement parameters. Auditioning and loading individual IRs is a very tedious process. Line 6 now offers a very large IR package, built into the firmware rather than loaded into an IR slot, with a visual rather than filename selection and audition method.
silverhead
I remember when Helix firmware v3.5 was introduced (the new cab engine) I actually calculated the exact number of IRs available. The release notes claimed ‘thousands’ of IRs. It is actually approx. 3 million iirc. Here’s the formula. Anyone interested can do it for the POD Go. Perhaps not millions (yet) because there are currently fewer cab models. Not sure how the #mic models compares. Each future firmware release that adds cab or mic models will increase the number of IRs bundled into the firmware. #IRs = #cab models * #mic models * #position mic parameters * #distance mic parameters * 2 Angle positions I believe the Lo and Hi cuts are just additional EQs applied to the IR, not themselves additional IRs.
