Trying to import a Purple Rain patch into HX Edit and it says "unable to import this preset because required license wasn't found". Help?

I am definitely logged into HX edit

I also sometimes get this message when trying to import a patch:

Preset translation not supported, dsp block constraint exceeded.

Do you have "preset spillover" enabled?

I don't think I do. I don't know what that is and why it is needed, or where to find it. I have only had my Stomp a few days and haven't had much time to learn much yet. Thanks for any help

OK.  Nevermind then.  Stomp doesn't have it.

But, is your stomp up to date?  I know they recently added an extra block capability to the stomp.  If you have an old firmware, then that's why it's complaining about not having enough blocks available IMO.

What are blocks? The number of pedals in a preset?

"Blocks are objects that represent various elements of a preset, such as amps, cabs, effects, splits, loopers, and even inputs and outputs."

You should take a look at the manual, and update your firmware before you start using HX Stomp.  Also downloading presets in my opinion is never a great idea in lieu of learning how to use the hardware.

Deep breath time...you've got a new device that you are not yet familiar with, and you're jumping into the deep end when you should still be in the kiddie pool.

1) Update to the latest firmware, because you most likely have an older version installed. Just because it's "new" doesn't mean that it hasn't been sitting in a warehouse for the last year before arriving on your doorstep.

2) Read the manual. Yes, I know it's boring...but the answers to all the "see-spot-run" questions that you will inevitably have are all in there. Get familiar with the UI and terminology...if you don't have a working knowledge of basic terms and definitions, then any help that folks in here can offer will be about as useful to you as if we responded in Chinese. Trying to do it this way will just waste hours of your time and ultimately frustrate you even further, and it will take forever.

3) Seek out some youtube video tutorials. There are tons of them, and many are quite good. Jason Sadites' channel comes to mind....he deals mostly with the Helix Floor, but the basic functionality of the Stomp is the same, there's just a little less of everything.

Thanks for the advice. Yes I am rushing it for sure and jumping ahead. I was really trying tp use it for a gig tomorrow night' thus the moving too fast. I had everything I needed but needed a good preset for Purple Rain and was looking for the shortcut patch download due to running out of time. This is a smaller gig and I just am trying to travel light for this one. I am the lead singer and play acoustic on 75% of the songs and electric only on about 8.

I definitely downloaded 3.70 update the day I got it, but it says that's the latest update to download correct? I know there's apparently 3.71 but theres no download for that according to what I read?

Yes I have watched YouTube tutorials including the one you mentioned. But it just didn't cover the issues that I've come across.

Thanks so much for trying to help me.

I don’t know where you are getting your “no download” information, but it is wrong! This is from the download page.

Helix/HX 3.71: (released January 11, 2024) includes several bug fixes, and is strongly recommended for all users.

These are the release notes for v.3.71

Also you mentioned:-

"unable to import this preset because required license wasn't found"

and

“Preset translation not supported, dsp block constraint exceeded.”

This possibly points to a couple of things, such as, “license” - this may be due to the fact that the purchased preset may contain a particular IR that is required to complete the preset. The second item about DSP more likely indicates that this particular preset was created to be used with one of the larger members of the Helix range that actually utilise 2 DSP chips.

Caveat emptor- a little research is a big help!

Hope this helps/makes sense.
