Integration of Tonex Pedal

I am thinking of integrating Tonex Pedal with Alex Lifeson Legacy amp models. I want to try and build authentic tones from Lifeson. My thought is to put the Tonex in the FX loop of the Stadium. But I am also wondering if this is a waste of time and money and should spend more time building the tones with Agoura amp models instead? Any thoughts?

Ultimately, if you think you can get a sound that inspires you to play more with a Tonex pedal, go for it. The only right answer is the one that you think sounds best.

 

I used a Tonex One with my HX Stomp before upgrading to the Stadium XL. Once I did (and Proxy came along), I didn't feel the need any more mostly because the XL was big enough, sounded/felt fine enough, and I didn't want to carry anything else around lol.

Proxy has not fully developed yet and very minimal tones out there. Maybe the Tonex would be good, but I am curious if I could somehow get close to Lifeson tone through the Agoura models or Hope Proxy eventually provided tones of similar amps that I can incorporate into the whole Helix Stadium ecosystem.

@Wondo100 My first thought is that the Agoura amp models are very easy to use and adjust to taste.  Of course Is there an specific real world guitar amplifier you like the tone of?  And/or is there a guitarist you are wanting to emulate as far as tone?  I have used the Tonex with my Stadium XL and, while I like it, I am also using proxy to model two of my amps and getting quite good results based upon the tone I like - it is of course all subjective.

 

As to the combined use question -

 

One of the other guitarist at church has been using the Tonex with the Stadium XL and just purchased the newest Tonex Board which he used last Sunday.  He swears by it.  Here are two links for two different very well know musicians in the industry regarding your question.  Both from 9 months ago.

I have the Stadium XL with my ToneX in the loop. Sonically, I find the Proxy very comparable to the ToneX captures—at least to my ears. Since I play a wide variety of styles and was already using a sort of "pedalboard strategy" with my "standard" Helix, I’ll likely stick with this setup. That means I have six main presets, each with matching pedals (Clean/Pop, Blues, Rock, etc.) and a corresponding Agoura amp—which can even be tweaked per snapshot (something that’s really easy to do since the Stadium update). I have the ToneX pedal in the loop, which I can use to replace the amp if needed. This gives me incredible tonal variety right at my feet, as the ToneX offers so many more amps (and gain stages, plus Bright, Balance, and Fat controls) ready to go. It’s also cool to be able to switch between the Agoura and the ToneX across snapshots (e.g., Clean vs. High Gain). I really like that. So, for now, I’m sticking with ToneX (mainly because of the workflow). If things get really wild, I can patch in my iPad and use NAM within Genome2 as a third option...

That is great advice folks. I think I may get the Tonex Pedal and the Lifeson suite. 
1. which Pedal should I get?

2. I may hit you Tonex users up for some tips. 
3. people are saying they are using Proxy but I do not know where to find Proxy captures. What I have seen out there is limited. I don’t have many amps anymore. Just my two H&K Grandmeisters I used to use in 7CM with my old Helix.

ive bought a few modelers because I have a very expensive hobby I do not gig I use it at home because I like learning and playing with modelers,that being said if you are strictly playing lifeson imo I think tonex one will be fine.I sold one for 110 dollars so you can find them cheap even a new one goes on sale,if lifeson amps is all you want I think you will be fine with that.May I suggest setting up a couple of lifeson amps to your liking to also use as a back up or maybe rehearsal.

I'm planning on getting a Tonex One+ to add onto my Stadium XL within the next month or so. For me, it will be good as it will expand my amp capabilities for models that I have yet to see on the stadium, or may never see for that matter. I also like the fact that the plus has MIDI capabilities to switch amongst 20 patches. I can use my stadium to control this. I also have the Tonex Max software (it came bundled with a bunch of other instruments), so I have a bunch of different amps to choose from. As far as things like NAM goes I have just been grabbing a couple online and turning them into proxies, and they work just as well.

I still think the "standard" ToneX pedal offers the best price-to-performance ratio for me—unless you're aiming for an ultra-compact "travel rig." I find switching between captures so much easier with the three footswitches. Plus, it’s nice to know exactly what you’re playing... I also have the ToneX plug-in for when I go out to try out guitars...
