  1. Another problem I noticed, is when I have a dual signal and I'm just using Path A for my guitar, if I'm using my POD as an audio interface and the looper as post, the looper is half as quiet than the guitar signal, so it's not really usable when doing this. I use Path B for my microphone. I can just use Guitar Rig's looper when I do this though.
  2. I care about it because I think in this day and age it's kind of a ripoff to sell something that's new that sounds like it came from last decade. Another reason is because I'm going to use this for studio stuff so I need it to sound top notch, and BOSS just sounds like a cheap modeling amp. Even the X3 sounds better than the BOSS. That's nice if you want a bunch of different tones but if they all sound mediocre then why get it? The biggest problem for me is that I have a bunch of plugins at my disposal that are high stellar software modelers, Amplitube 3, Lepou, Amp Room, stuff like that, even Guitar Rig. I'm not going to replace that with something that sounds 10 times worse. The POD HD actually holds up to those though. It's something that'll I'll use when I want something different than what I got on my computer. For BOSS, I'm not going to use their stuff, maybe my HM-2, or DS-1, but that's it.
  3. I had my POD HD500 for 2 days now and I know how to adjust everything already, deep tweaking (sag hum bias) change cab parameters, set up midi, assign to pedals, change the variax options, all that stuff. I did this without reading the manual too. It's really not hard, it just takes some time. You have to be patient. I thought it already sounds good already without any tweaking. I'm sure if I messed around some more I can get even better, but they sound pretty stellar already.
  4. No. I did put a label on my model knob to correspond to the models I put on my guitar's banks, but it doesn't have an LED. If you're willing to not see the LED, you can do the same with your alt tuning knob. Basically all I did was make a label in photoshop, clear tape on top to prevent the label from rubbing out, double sided tape on the back to stick to the knob properly. Looks really nice.
  5. Thanks for the replies. Definitely not very easy sitting down. I get it though, so you don't accidentally hit the switch using the expression. Very easy to push when standing, hard to push when sitting down.
  6. Yeah but what if he doesn't want chorus.
  7. Takes a lot of force to push it in while sitting down, like, a lot. Any way to adjust this or do I just have to deal with it?
  8. Just got my HD500 and I gotta say, was really confusing at first but messing around in 1 hour already makes it really easy to figure out. I already know how to make a signal chain and program the effects to the the foot controllers. It's really not hard, it's just daunting at first, but I don't get why people think it's over complicated. You could always download the editor for your computer if the interface is too complicated for you. For me, I'm really happy with my HD500, and it stacks up really well with the high quality modern amp modelers of today. Good luck with your BOSS though, I hope you can find something you're happy with, but I'm just saying, if you just take some time you'd get something great out of it.
  9. I thought the tele could be a little twangier imo so I pushed the pickups towards the bridge a few notches. Sounds good now.
  10. I've been using my Variax just fine with Guitar Rig and other things. So no? You can use it with anything you want, because it works as a regular guitar. I made my choice to get a POD because I actually LIKE their stuff. Now, if you're certain you can get some awesome stuff out of a GP-10, go straight ahead, but from all I've heard from BOSS over the years, if I were to jump from a HD500 to a BOSS unit I would be sorely disappointed. Unless you're using a GK setup, I strongly suggest looking into other options than BOSS. Oh, also if it was too complicated, you could have looked into a HD300 or HD400 which has less tweaking.
  11. Luckily I know how to use Asio4ALL to use multiple audio interfaces together, but it would double up on latency if I routed them together. I might try this one day if I need to, but for now it looks like I have to choose either post POD effects or no POD processing at all in the mix.
  12. I've heard demos and they sound like the run of the mill outdated BOSS modeling technology to me, that shill high end and thin lifeless sound signature to analog and digital boss distortion pedals, still there imo. If you can crank out a good tone, all to you, but it's not my cup of tea Because I truly, 100% believe modern BOSS is garbage. They ride on their name and their name alone, but all of their new products are complete rubbish. Their modeling technology is embarrassingly behind times despite them having multiple opportunities to update the modeling section of their products, but it's always the same early 2000's COSM sounding modeling that does not fit anywhere in today's advanced modeling generations which took HUGE leaps to sounding 95% like a real amp. This isn't just Line 6, it's IK Media, It's Native Instruments, it's VOX, it's Electro Harmonix, Fractile, Kemper, it's all the other respectable companies, meanwhile BOSS craps out pedals that are "supposed to be alternatives to popular tones that people are seeking for" which sound really hamfisted compared to anything else actually trying to sound like a specific tone. You can go ahead and keep supporting a company that is stuck in last decade's technology but I prefer real sounding amp sims.
  13. Aw, I wish there was an interface like that, instead of wasting I/Os to make a physical loop which can potentially damage the unit.
  14. Goodbye Line 6 Hello lollipope mediocre tones from BOSS.
  15. I imagine the DSP overload is when the DSP can't process the signal in realtime properly anymore. Couldn't they also fix this by having a settable buffer, or is this different than messing with the CPU workload on a DAW?
  16. Ok, so one of the biggest problems with using hardware with software together is that in some cases you can't use them both. Let's say, I want to use an amp on the POD, but I want to use a plugin before the Amp on the POD. Let's say, a drive pedal effect. Can I do this in the signal with the POD alone? I think it would be amazing if I could.
  17. Well, it is another reason why I got the 500. Saved 200 bucks. Was 300 flat, and that's amazing. Should be good condition used, says "super clean, works perfect" and the guy has positive feedback. We'll see. I've been wanting one of these babies for years. As much of a more software kind of guy I am, I'm seriously looking into actually using this for recording some stuff, something I never do with my hardware because all of my software sounds better. With this, I'm hoping I can finally have hardware that is as good as the software I got. As for a JTV, I'm getting more open to maybe buying a super low JTV. It might not be the exact model I want, but I think I can live with it. I've seen a 69 go as low as the 500's and that's pretty damn amazing.
  18. Gen 1 was released a decade ago yes, but workbench version 1 was still being used a few years ago, in fact, since a bunch of people seem to want to use 1.9, a bunch of people are STILL using old workbench, therefor it doesn't matter that the starting point was 10 years ago, it's how long it was still being used ago, and that was like 1 year.
  19. But there is no investment, only a few lines of code to communicate with workbench. It's not like it'll make them lose money, it'll make them gain money if anything. There's really no excuse other than not wanting to support old products. Not everyone can shell out 1.5k for a JTV.
  20. Yes and I think that's kind of alienating and rude. They're not getting any money from me buying a used POD though. Was gonna get one from sweetwater but that offer ran out and now they're out of stock of regular 500's
  21. 59P was discontinued? Bummer. You can't upgrade the bridges on a JTV because that's where the piezo pickups lie which is for the modeling part of the guitar.
  22. Ok thanks. Yes, I know the 500X has more horsepower to avoid hitting the DSP ceiling. Hopefully that won't happen to me. I would have gotten the 500X if they had JUST allowed people to use old workbench.
  23. Is there any lesser amount of features or models on the 500 than the 500X? I swear I heard them say that there will be no downsides for regular 500 users and that they will still get firmware updates. Is this true?
