If anything I'd want them to swap a maple 69s neck on a sunburst 69.

Good for you, though I think the level imbalance, which is on purpose because a strat and les paul have different volume levels because one is a single coil and one is a humbucker, kind of plays roll in the tone, but workbench is there to adjust to your preference. Some of you should try to mess with Workbench more, it's a great tool and is about 50% the salepoint of the guitar imo.

The noise floor is ultimately determined by the A/D converters and preamp quality. It's one of the reasons I want to upgrade to a POD HD because it's less noisy than my M-Audio. Noise in the signal is bad for high gain.

Yeah, kinda no contrast when every single thing on the guitar is black.

JTV59 JTV69 v2.1 SEMI-5 Comparison
clay-man replied to edstar1960's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I'm not sure how they isolated getting the convolutions between each part of the guitar (bodies, pickups, electronics) but I'm sure it's very accurate. I've heard Line 6 calibrates each model so they sound identical to one another in modeling. -
I have POD Farm which is X3 in software form. From what I've heard, it's 1000 times better in my opinion. I don't use POD Farm because I have, IN MY OPINION better software modelers at my disposal besides POD Farm. Modeling has made huge breakthroughs this past 5-8 years and I think POD HD is Line 6's next gen modeler for sure, and it really does stack up well to the current modelers out there.

JTV59 JTV69 v2.1 SEMI-5 Comparison
clay-man replied to edstar1960's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Pretty identical to me. Not enough difference for me to care at all, and that's what I like. I'd want their modeling guitars to sound the same between eachother, else that means the modeling is off on one of them. -
Variax Vs. Axe Fx Pitch Shift?
clay-man replied to rlintz's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
COSM is modeling, it's merely an outdated technique that BOSS uses. They're too proud to admit that, but it is. It's been around for more than 10 years, and these past 10 years have had WAAAY bigger breakthroughs in modeling compared to COSM. Being an established pedal company for the past 30 years doesn't qualify you to be proud and arrogant pushing outdated technology for the past half decade though. Everyone is using new modeling each time they put out a new product, BOSS isn't. I'm not going to mess with any of their products besides a few classic pedals until they step up their game. -
How does it sound exactly? I had a POD Studio with a broken A/D converter which made it sound horrible. I hope you're not having the same problem, otherwise Line 6 REALLY need to step up their hardware in that part of the circuitry. It's what got me to avoid Line 6 for a few years.

I know. I only have my 600 still so that's out of the question for now. Thank you for the answer, I think an expression pedal would be better anyways. Just that I might have instances where I'm bypassing amp modeling and effects and just using the pod as an interface and controller.

I would think that 2.0 would sound better. I honestly think it's just the strat they modelled's fault Add 1 more Strat model closer to 1.0 to workbench and I think it'll solve everything. Like I've said before, NO to everyone saying to add 1.9 models to 2.0/2.1. Seriously. It's a huge leap back. The problem is the modeled strat, not the modeling! Besides, it won't fit, some guy already confirmed the JTV didn't have enough room to fix 1.9 and the HD acoustics with the reset feature, so there's no way in heck they can fit 1.9 models with the new firmware. I'm honestly wondering if they can add more models either, I really hope they can. A little bit more room hopefully. It depends on how much memory the flash memory has for new features, otherwise, we're stuck, and the only way they can fix that is with a new line of guitars with better hardware, and I think it's way too early for that. It would alienate all current JTV users. The last thing we need is a JTVX like the PODs.

Variax Vs. Axe Fx Pitch Shift?
clay-man replied to rlintz's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
No. I'm sure all other modelers using convolution just like the JTV. Sampling would make it a guitar SYNTH not a guitar MODELER. That doesn't mean they all sound the same or accurate. I've made the following point many times: JTV uses piezos. Piezos have a bigger an flatter frequency range than magnetic pickups. This allows for more accurate modeling. It also depends on what techniques they're using to make the impulse response. The whole thing people want or at least complain about out of a modeling guitar is how real and accurate they sound, so why get something that sounds inaccurate? As far as I'm concerned, the JTV is the most accurate, in my opinion. No DSP horsepower is going to change that if they don't PROGRAM it correctly. Once again, I will admit, I like the string bending features and other features that the BOSS product has, but I want something that sounds nice, and I can live without those features. All I need is the ability to change the guitar I'm modeling, and to change the tuning, and I'm a happy guy. Besides, WORKBENCH! :) -
Can you make the knobs (drive, treble, bass, mid, etc) a midi controller?
-
The gain is adjusted via DSP but it's still pre-modeling, so sting volume will still effect the sounds of the modeling, at least they did in pre HD firmware, don't know about the HD firmware now. One of the best ways to tell is to turn down the string volume in the sitar and listen if the drone effect goes away when the volume is low.

I have a whole bunch of custom guitars overwritten on many of the banks of the knobs. I'd make a back up of the default first.

Variax 600 - no sound after 2 new piezo's

You connected the ribbon cable back into it's socket all nice right? -
No Sound from bottom 3 strings
clay-man replied to pablo5150's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
Awesome! I was hoping it was that. I had the same problem one time when trying to fix a piezo. -
Makes me a bit angry that the piezo problem wasn't fixed with the JTVs. It's definitely something they should have looked at and fix, and it's an obvious solution: ground wire for ground instead of piezo's contact of saddle for ground. We all rest our hands around that area a lot especially for palm muting or anything like that, so our sweat and all will go in between the piezo and saddle eventually cutting off the grounding. Another thing that would help is not having that opening at all, like the graphtech piezo system.

Thank you! Looks like I'll still have use for my Fast Track Pro then.
-
That stinks, no midi drive then? All switches are assignable to be midi messages correct?
-
One of the biggest things I've been looking for for years is a midi floorboard to control VST plugins on my computer. Does the HD500 have MIDI out via USB? It would save me not having to use another interface for MIDI.

JTV-69 model selector knob fell off
clay-man replied to Unorthodoxic's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
So just glue it back on..
