Thanks. I am actually using a demo of Voxengo Deconvolver and experimenting with a couple of DAW's (Pro Tools, Sonar, Fruity Loops) and plug ins. I haven't tried Waves or Altiverb. I'd hate to spend hundreds more on this.

After playing with this IR a bit more, I found that tweaking the Low Cut and High Cut to match the Celestion Vintage 30 specs makes this IR sounds REALLY close to the Recto cab. Try these settings on the Helix IR block with this IR: Low Cut @ 70Hz High Cut @ 5000Hz Celestion V30 Specs http://celestion.com/product/1/vintage_30/

Well I just got over my little freak out about the size of my DIY IR's. It seems that all IR's may be equal in the eyes of Helix. It looks like Helix process them on import, making them 16 bit & 44kHz. Exporting IR's from Helix app showed that the are about 9kb in file size, despite the file size of the original IR. http://line6.com/support/topic/19475-does-helix-process-irs-on-import/?do=findComment&comment=146475

Thanks for the links! They led me to a knowledge base article, which somewhat confirms (use of the word "may") that Helix processes the IR on import. http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/effects-controllers/helix/impulse-response-irs-r759 What IRs does Helix support? Helix supports nearly all IRs in .WAV format. However, the Helix Edit application may automatically change its attributes before sending it to the Helix hardware: Converts all .WAV IRs to 16-bit, 48kHz mono; when loading a stereo file, Helix Edit uses only the left side Shortens (or lengthens) the IR to 2,048 samples. The user may choose a 1,024-sample version to save DSP, which fades out the IR halfway through After reading through all of that, I remembered seeing and Export button in the Helix app Impulses. I exported both my and the Ownhammer IR's, and they both come out as 9kb. So whew...I don't see a reason to remake my IR's! Thanks!

Quick question before I start down a dark, and possibly frustrating path with my DIY IR's... Does IR file size matter? Does Helix (or the Helix application) perform any size or resolution processing on IR's when you import them? The IR's I created are 150KB, where the OwnHammer demo ones are about 30KB. It seems like I can configure just as many blocks with either of them before hitting a limit. The number of available IR slots remains at 128 despite the size of the IR files I import.

Yeah, I see corresponding behavior in the Helix hardware editor too. No worries. Not a big deal. Thanks again to the Line 6 team for all of the hard work and quick responses to us devil's advocates ;)

If you are using the IR's that I posted (that you replied to), that could be eating up your Helix resources. I just noticed that the IR(s) I created and posted are 5x larger in file size than OwnHammer's demo IR's 150kb vs 30kb. I guess i need to figure out how to make them smaller and retain sound quality. I added to my IR post. http://line6.com/support/topic/19442-free-mesa-recto-sm57-ir/

Bless you Line 6. Thank you for the editor! One minor annoyance is that on an IR block the IR's don't appear in a drop down list (like say the amp models do in an amp block), but the two sample rates are in a drop down list, 1024 & 2048. Seems backwards. See attached.

It only seems like the next logic step in typical Line 6 product evolution...AX212, Vetta, DT, StageSource, Firehawk... What would be REALLY cool is a DT/Firehawk 1500 hybrid that would do wet/dry/wet, tube (w/ topology) or digital solid state power, 1 or 2x12 woofers, 2x6.5 coax, 1 horn, defeatable tweeters/horns and coax speakers (for tube amp models, or whatever). I mean digital solid state power is pretty cheap, and tube/solid state amp switching technology has been around for a while (Radial Headbone TS). Could be combos or separate head/cabs. Summer NAMM 2016 is coming up in June ;)

Posted Line 6 IR Utility to Idea Scale. http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Line-6-Helix-IR-Utility/813669-23508 There are some requests for Tone Matching and some other IR functionality, but an IR Utility could be very simple if Line 6 would put the pieces together for us, instead of the multiple-component, complex configuration options (for PC) that I can find right now.

Ok, I might have to join the "am I crazy" club with the other guy as I must have REALLY different personal tastes. I just went to the Ownhammer site (someone mentioned free demos) and sure enough, they have OwnHammer 412 MES-ST V60 Free Demo based on a 2001 Mesa Boogie Standard slant 4x12 cabinet and 60 watt Celestion Vintage 30's. this pack comes with 200+ IR's with different mics and different settings, etc. I havent done a deep dive yet, but on the 10 or so I tried so far, I STILL get the sort of nasally quality like the Line 6 HX V30 cabs with a Cali Rectifier amp model. http://www.ownhammer.com/free/v4-demo/ Since they are free anyway, I'll post a couple of the plain Mesa Recto V30 SM57 ones here. I did notice their file size is MUCH smaller than the ones I made, around 20% of the size. Mine may be using too many Helix resources, more storage, etc. When I think of a Recto cab, I think dark and ballsy. I want it to punch me in the stomach and make me want to hurl my tacos. Oh well, to each his own. It's been an amazing experience for me to realize how much of a difference the cabs make on the amp models. I absolutely love Helix amp/preamp models now. Thanks to Line 6 for letting us load our own IR's. It would be nice if Line 6 gave us a simple IR utility, especially since it has all of the hardware in place to do it. OK, last one and I have to go back to work... Darts welcome... Update 3/31/2016 I have attached my Helix IR test presets (1024 & 2048 samples) with my goal Amp and IR sound. You will need to change the exported preset "Brit Plex IR####.txt " back to "Brit Plex IR####.hlx" before importing to the Helix app. The presets have the impulse in slot 3. Made a Dropbox account and posted and shared the 3 IR's and corresponding Helix test presets. https://www.dropbox....Rd2evJJ0Ca?dl=0 Will start posting to the Line 6 IR Forum http://line6.com/sup...mpulse response Marshall GB SM57.wav Brit Plex IR1024.txt Brit Plex IR2048.txt

Since I am on a *.wav of inspiration (pun intended), here is another free IR. This time a Marshall cab with Seventy 80's. I think this is a good contrast to the Mesa Recto IR I made yesterday. It has more mid and bite. This is raw with no post process tweaking, tested only through headphones with only a Helix amp block and an IR block. Again, like-hate-feedback is appreciated. Don't worry about my feelings since I am new to this ;) Update 3/31/2016 I have attached my Helix IR test presets (1024 & 2048 samples) with my goal Amp and IR sound. I combined the dev kit part from the previous tone match morphed idea scale post to the later idea scale post I put up on manufacturer collaboration. I think the two compliment each other. http://line6.com/support/topic/14497-helix-ideascale-community-submissions/?p=140836

Thanks. The Recto cab has V30's which are darker and a little scooped. I may try different mic positions or some post capture eq, dynamics, etc. I might also try to get my hands on a Marshall 1936 2x12, another of my fav cabs I used to have. I've almost always played and gigged sealed 2x12 cabs. I think they are a big factor to the sounds in my head when I am playing with software and hardware modellers.

If you get a Helix, most places have a 30 day return policy. If you don't like the Line 6 Helix stock cabs, be sure to try cab IR's before passing final judgement. I finally broke down and created one myself for the hell of it (I couldnt bring myself to pay for one from Ownhammer and Redwirez). The Helix amp models with this IR sound a lot closer to what you and I are probably used to in Amplitube. http://line6.com/support/topic/19442-free-mesa-recto-sm57-ir-from-a-noob/

I just copy/paste the text from the Amplitube MIDI Program Change list to the corresponding Helix patch. It shows up on the scribble strips.

One of my ideas on IdeaScale is that Line 6 create a dev kit for 3rd party developers, manufacturers, etc. to develop content for the Helix. I believe amp modelling is where the gaming industry used to be. All of the amp modelling companies are in silos with their hardware. I would like to see some cross-platform content from amp manufacturers, VST developers, a 15 year old in his bedroom. etc. I believe Line 6 currently has the best all-in-one hardware solution with Helix. http://line6.com/support/topic/14497-helix-ideascale-community-submissions/?p=140653

Helix is an AWESOME USB MIDI controller for Amplitube!!! One of may favorite things about Helix. I just cant assign the 6 knobs under the Helix display to be MIDI CC controllers.

Ok guys, made my first IR...skipped out on work today to do it  I'm giving it away for free (attached), please let me know if you like it, hate it, or have suggestions. I know there's a lot more learning I need to do. It's pretty raw. I could spend more time tweaking it. I've only tested it through headphones straight out of the Helix on a blank preset with only two blocks; a Helix "Amp" model (not "Preamp" or "Amp+Cab") and this IR. No EQ, effects, or any other blocks. I did this for myself because I really wasn't liking the Helix OOTB Amps and Cabs through headphones (Sennheiser HD280 Pro), studio monitors (M-Audio BX-8), my PA speakers (JBL Eon 515XT), or even the effects return of my Mesa M9 bass amp into a Powerhouse 2x12 w/ horn (which actually sounded best). I loved Helix preamps through my Mesa Mark V, Stilleto Deuce II, Simul 2:90, or 20/20 power sections into my Recto 2x12. I loved Helix Amps into Amplitube 4 cabs only with the amps turned off. I crafted this IR to get a lot closer to those tones and get myself closer to using only the Helix. I'm sure Redwirez and Ownhammer IR's are much better, but I havent tried them yet. Hopefully this might show the IR possibilities to those that may not totally satisfied with the stock Helix sounds, or may just want different options. Update 3/31/2016 To get a lot closer the real Recto cab sound, try these settings on the Helix IR block with this IR to match Celestion V30 specs frequency range: Low Cut @ 70Hz High Cut @ 5000Hz Celestion V30 Specs http://celestion.com/product/1/vintage_30/ I have also exported my Helix test and tweak presets (1024 & 2048 samples) with the Cali Rectifire Amp and Mesa Recto SM57 IR. I had to change the file extension to *.txt to upload it to this site. You will need to change the exported preset "Mesa Rect IR####.txt " back to "Mesa Rect IR####.hlx" before importing to the Helix app. The presets have the impulses in slot 1.
