Also, it doesn't keep rebooting, it reboots 1 time and then it's all good. So, you actually have to look at your POD when you reboot it. I thought it was JTV related as well but how come it doesn't do this on any of the earlier firmware versions? Yes, I have tried everything under the sun but when I go back to 2.0 and even flash it numerous times I still have the issue.
-
So, if you have your JTV and POD connected via VDI. Don't unplug anything (Like the VDI connection). Reboot the POD and you don't have this reboot issue? Hummmmm..... The reason I wanted the ticket was because we went through a bunch of troubleshooting and there was some good information in there that could help on the forum. I might call them today to see if they still have it. Unfortunately, I think I would have had an answer but the Line 6 support team sent my JTV back and never talked to me before they sent it back to me. They stated it didn't reboot their HD500s. I can replicate the issue on 4 different HD500's and they couldn't? Interesting as well. So, they sent it back stating the battery compartment was bad and they replaced it and it's fixed. I have seen this fix on the forum and it kinda cracks me up when they say this. I questioned them on this and even talked to management and asked why would they send back my guitar when it's still broken. (Ok not broken) The manager put the technician on the phone with us and he stated he tested it so the manager backed him up and not me. NOT!!! Bad support model. Line 6 has some issues they aren't willing to acknowledge with all of their new firmware versions and their support has some real issues as well. Maybe they are over worked but when you send a $1500 guitar in to get it fixed you would expect better support. They are not a toy company anymore. It's not your problem but some of us really have issues.
-
Sorry to say this but this isn't a setting or POD issue and resetting the POD and re-installing the firmware won't fix it. It's a firmware version 2.0 problem. This is an issue. I am sure you or most can replicate the issue. BTW... I can't find my support ticket anymore? Probably due to the new site?

I can see 1.90 through 1.70 when I click on "Rollback" in Line 6 monkey? I am on monkey v1.65. If you still can't see 1.90, click on Support at the top of this page, go to Downloads, select James Tyler Variax and click go. Look for Firmware 1.90 and download it. In monkey click on "update from file" then find your file and you should be good to go.
-
I will stick with the good old 2.10! It doesn't have any issues. Yea, I doubt that this will ever be fixed. I have lost total confidence in Line 6 over the past 2 or so years. No matter bug or not the behavior of the device should be the same. Thanks for trying.

Thanks to everyone who is helping on this thread. Lets see if they can reproduce it? I am sure they will be able to.

Interesting, I have a 89 not a 89F but I think the mag pickups are the same. Here is what I think and have said. When I am on 2.0 firmware and load the 89 bundle they sound horrible and nothing like the pickups on my 89. Now when I am on FW version 1.90 the modeled pickup sounds closer but not exact. There is more of a crunch/bite when you play the mag pickup compared to the modeled 89 pickup but I think it's very close. You probably know this but, in this FW version the 89 pickups are located in custom 1, switch 1-5 I think I know what you are saying. The modeled 89 pickups sound different than the mags and would like them to sound like the mags on the 89 guitar.Crunch/bite is the explanation in words I can come up with to explain what you are talking about. But yes they are different. I rarely use my mags anymore and I am in model mode most of the time now. I use the 89 mags model even though they do sound different but I still like them. Just my 2 cents...

Yes, this is the firmware it was introduced. (2.20) If that helps...
-
I would have to flash and go up to either 2.20 or 2.31 to reproduce the issue. I believe that no matter what you are doing when music is playing through the USB you can go in and out of the tuner while it's playing and you will get the squeal or squawk.
-
No problem. I am glad I am not the only one. :) I play in a cover band and use the USB to practice for my weekend gigs when we have them. The USB is totally muted in tuner mode on 2.10? lost code maybe?
-
Yea, I have been down the line 6 support road. I would basically have to send in all my gear for them to replicate my issues? I haven't talked to them about this issue specifically but I am sure they world have me send in all my gear. I am happy. I have a couple of line 6 products. I am on Firmware: HD500 - bought 10-17-2010 - FW - 2.10 JTV-89 - bought 6-30-2013 ish - FW - 1.90 I have issues with both new firmware releases for the HD series and the JTV series. But they sound fantastic they way I have them now. It has never let me down. Knock on wood. I need something that will be rock solid night in and out and not have to worry about these pesky issues that get introduced through a firmware update. My feeling is they lost code on both firmware updates and they think everything is fine. It's not and they won't admit it. I am not too sure if they lost the guy who wrote 2.10 but I don't think anything was left out if I can remember. Maybe it the pressure of the take over by Yahama? But all the new firmware is half baked and line 6 needs to know this because it's a fact. Yes I have told them about the JTV firmware issues and that sparked Line 6 to want all my gear. But I haven't told them about the HD500 current issues. Not too sure if I want to venture down that road again. Like I said I am happy with what I currently use. Just a matter of opinion. BTW... hurghanico, do you have my above issues or is your USB quiet when in tuner mode and playing music? Try 2.10 and 2.31 and you will see the difference. Or maybe you won't. let me know if you are willing to try.
-
For me personally I am on 2.10 and have never had an issue with loud squealing sounds coming out of my gear. It's pretty rock solid if you ask me. I tried 2.20 and for me with in an hour of trying it, it squealed at me and I immediately went back to 2.10. There was an issue in 2.20 that I didn't like as well and both 2.20 and 2.31 still have this issue: My issue is when or if you have your USB connected to the computer. You are practicing with music through the USB through headphones or my amp and notice that a string is out of tune. If the music is still playing when you go into the tuner it does not mute the in coming sounds from the USB like 2.10 does? It also makes a loud squeal when you go in and out of the tuner while playing music through the USB. Probably not a big deal for most but for me having being used to the old way is a serious pain in the ear. I mean ear. I agree it won't or shouldn't change the sound of your current patches. Try it at your own risk. I am staying with something that is tested and tested my me to be a solid firmware build. 2.10! Yes it does have issues but at least it doesn't squeal at me. I am curious to hear if the squeal has been taken care of but until then...

Potential Issues With My New Jtv59p?
FrozenOzone replied to the29band's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I have done the same thing rolling back to 1.9. 2.0 has issues that needs to be fixed and addressed by Line6. IMHO. -
Dimensions Of The Jtv-89n
FrozenOzone replied to chrismkane's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Yes the 89 neck definitely reminds me of my Jackson's neck profile. Half way down the page in link below there are examples of different neck profile's. The 89 neck profile is 16". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fingerboard As for jumbo frets, they are suppose to make it easier to bend and do vibratos on. Also, if your frets are taller, then there's less resistance distance you have to push your string down, this is so you can play faster. TV-89 - Mahogany body - 3-piece maple neck with rosewood fingerboard (Tyler Fast n' Flat neck shape) - 25-1/2" scale length - 16" radius neck profile - Tyler Fast n’ Flat neck shape - 24 jumbo frets and dot inlays - 1-11/16" Graph Tech Black TUSQ XL self-lubricating nut - Sealed tuners (16:1 turn ratio) - Black and black nickel hardware - Fully adjustable Tyler Custom stoptail bridge - L. R. Baggs Radiance Hex piezo pickup system - Two high-output, PAF-style alnico humbucking pickups wound to Tyler's specs - Master volume and tone knobs - Model and Alt Tune knobs - 5-way selector switch - VDI (Variax® Digital Interface) for integration with Line 6 POD HD500 and POD HD Pro, and limited compatibility with POD® xt, POD® X3, Vetta™ II amplifier and other legacy Line 6 products - Li-Ion battery (12 hours of play time), and international wall charger - Variax Workbench™ software and USB interface - Includes quality padded gig bag - Additional battery, charger and cable kit available separately -
Yes this can be done. Most of my patches are setup to use input path 1 as guitar and input path 2 as a Microphone. I use my POD500 as a vocal processor with guitar. MartinDorr summed it up pretty well but here is a screen shot of my setup: Also, I do not use an amp on the vocal side even though there is an amp there in the picture.

Replacing Magnetic Pickups
FrozenOzone replied to tscoolberth's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I am not too sure if you had seen this but here is a diagram of the pickup's for all the JTV's. http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/guitars/james-tyler-variax-guitars/jtv-pickup-wiring-diagrams-r64 Agreed, I/we would love for some one to make a video on how to replace the pickup's 59 or 89 and one on the 69. I haven't replaced mine yet but will after my warranty is over next summer. -
Depending on how much it annoys me, I might just try that after my warranty runs out. All my guitars have Dimarzio's and have been biting at the bit to swap them out so maybe when I decide to replce the pickups I will try replacing the neck. I don't play the jackson all too much anymore and have always liked the Jackson neck. The JTV neck kind of reminds me of my Jackson's neck in a way and thats one of the reasons I bought the JTV.

Don't want to be off subject but it looks like it already is... johnnyayyy, I am a sort of new JTV-89 user and I have had this happen more than a few times on the bass E string. No other string has this issue? I have been playing for about 30 years now and I have owned many guitars over the years and none of them had this issue. For the life of me I can't figure out how or why this is happening? Is this is not a show stopper but very annoying when it happens. I just put on bigger strings last weekend to see if this will help. Elixir 11 -49's. 52's don't fit correctly on either the bridge or nut. Is this just an 89 thing or is it with the JTV line? As for the OP, I really like playing my JTV and it's a Korean made guitar. I have a few Korean made guitars and I like all of them. They are all PRS's. Not too sure about my Jackson and Gibson. I hope that Yamaha will step in and improve L6's QC.

I just got my 89 3 months ago right before the 2.0 update. I played with the 1.9 version for about a month and thought the 89 was fantastic sounding I was really impressed. I mean WOW! Then I installed 2.0 and have had issues with 2.0 since installing it and it reboots my HD500. I have tested my 89 on 4 different HD500's (per L6) and they all reboot with 2.0. I even sent in my 89 to L6 and they replaced the battery compartment and sent it back stating it was fixed and it wasn't. I am not saying that 2.0 is broken but I think there are issues. Yes I told L6 this as well. Just my opinion... From a new users stand point, 1.9 has a lot of character and feels good. Like I am connected with the guitar. With 2.0 it sounds thin, very little character and feels like I am unconnected when I am playing. It feel like there is a little more latency in 2.0 that makes me feel like I am not connected with the guitar. Remember just my opinion. I rolled back to version 1.9 about 3 weeks ago and I am back in love with my guitar again. Thanks to L6 for providing other firmware options because you can always go back to an earlier version.

Hd500x Not Starting After Timed-out Patch Transfer :o(
FrozenOzone replied to TheWolf2103's topic in POD HD
Thats a bummer. I have only had this happen to me once and that was a few months ago. What you need to do: "Power up the HD500x while holding the Left Arrow cursor down" and this will do a global reset. Hope this helps. -
Thanks Dave, your comments make me feel assured that as long as this is a normal behavior I am good with it. I didn't want to get out there and gig and have it power cycle in the middle of a song. Also, no it doesn't power cycle if I plug it in after the HD500 is up and running. Strange. Thanks to everyone's input.
-
I am having an power cycle issue on my 500 caused by my JTV. If I have the JTV plugged in to the 500 using the variax connection on either my bought 25' Line 6 cable or the supplied cable for updating when powering on the 500... My HD500 will turn on for about 10 seconds and then it will power cycle off and on and be fine and stable. Is this normal behavior when using the variax connection and the HD500? It doesn't happen when if I have a 1/4" connected only when the variax connection is connected? Like I said I am a new Variax owner and would like to know if my new JTV is defective.
