  1. Hey all, I own many L6 products and I'm thinking of maybe grabbing an HX Effects to go in the effects loop of my Mesa Trem-O-Verb. Problem is being my amp has a parallel effects loop and I'm not interested in fussing with 100% wet this and that. I just want to know if there is a global kill/dry setting in the HX Effects. Thanks for any answers
  2. By the way the built in looper in the SV MKII is only 14 seconds long, nothing to get too excited about ;-)
  3. You need the FBV MKII hooked up to your SV MKII in order to communicate with a computer. The FBV is what does the talking to the computer. There may also be a way with a MIDISPORT Uno like I had to use for my Vetta II HD that you can do but that is a whole other ballgame.
  4. I've read a few different responses over the years to this same question. One camp kinda says yes you can run it without a load as long as you remain in standby and never accidentally switch it to the on position. Another camp says you must always have a speaker load connected no matter what. I tend to go with this theory more because the other way the the neutrons and energy have no way to escape and probably builds until the power transformer barbecues itself. Maybe a real tech on this amp could chime in here but I'd stick with always having a speaker plugged in no matter what. I know my Vetta can run without a load but that's a different story altogether :) PS: Now that I think about it I'm pretty damn sure I've seen it in the Line 6 specs for the SpiderValve to ALWAYS have a speaker load connected.
  5. If you're looking for cheap and good sounding check out the Jensen line of speakers, they've been around forever, most are still made in Italy and most are pretty danged good from most reviews. They have tons to choose from. Read some reviews, check some online pricing (New or used) and watch some listening tests on Youtube. Cheers
  6. Get a midi-sport uno as suggested above, make sure you update the drivers for it to the newest ones supplied for free by m-audio on their website. Then make sure you are using an older PC running XP haha. True. And also you probably want to run the really old version of Line 6 monkey that can still be found in the archives here somewhere. You need the old version of monkey in order to talk to the amp and to be able to do firmware updates and such. Just don't brick the amp and make sure you know what you're doing before trying to update the firmware, otherwise you're hooped. I did it not too long back, successfully on my Vetta II HD, but it's a risky proposition if something goes array.
  7. Yes I did thanks. I liked at least 6 out of 10 or something like that so that's really good as far as factory presets have always been, with any company or product I've tried. Just for the record, I didn't make any comments on the actual promo video and won't be. It is slightly amusing though I gotta admit, in a morbid sorta way.
  8. The sound quality of the SpiderValve mkii video featuring Richard Fortus made by Line 6 was one of the deciding factors for me in buying the amp. The audio was pristine and the playing of course was top notch. I'm sure Line 6 will have some great demo's of the Spider V in the very near future, if not already completed and ready to go, I'm just saying that "First look" is pretty brutal :)
  9. All I know is that the lame promo is getting absolutely hammered on Youtube and as everyone knows in this day and age of the internet and social media bad news spreads like wildfire,in an instant. No need to feel bad about pulling a horribly conceived video with atrocious audio quality, the actors have been paid and all others involved. Get some greasy long-haired axe-grinder with some decent chops that is kicking around your Calabasas headquarters and let him whail on it for two minutes, film it and release it. It will be heads and tails over that "Thing" you released early this morning. I'm sure the product is amazing and I liked some of the sound clips of it on the Line 6 website so don't think I'm here to slag the new cool Spider V. I'm here to tell you your promo video sucks, big time, and is making a laughing stock of Line 6. After the awesome success of the Helix wouldn't we want to see that for the new line of Spider amps? My thoughts from the peanut gallery, Cheers .... Hey where's a rockin' smiley face/emoticon?
  10. Was just released! Looks pretty cool, has a lot of great features and is aesthetically pleasing and I'm sure sounds fairly danged good. Just be aware the 30 watt 1x10" & 60 watt 1x12" combo models do not have line outs which to me is a bit of a disappointment.
  11. Cool, thanks man, I'll look into that. Just seems weird though that the slightest touch, I mean barely a millimeter drops the volume...
  12. Okay here's the dealio, and I think this has been plaguing me for a while now and I didn't even realize it was doing it (Causing) it at full band practice levels. I quit using the fbv shortboard mkii with the Vetta because I picked up the mk i recently and like it better. Better switches/better screen blah blah. So the issue is ( I just found out) is just the slightest touch of the gas pedal and it drops the volume level. Then when you change to a different patch within the same bank the volume goes back to normal. So last night I shut off the vol pedal for both amps in the effect control setup menu of the amp. Now everything works perfect, except no volume pedal lol. So I turned them all back on and set the minimum to 55% on all and saved thinking that might work cool as a volume boost method as I'd leave it in the heel position and then push to toe position for leads. Once again this works great......Except for the fact that that slight pressure on the pedal or switching between the patches changes the volume level again......Arggggh
  13. Sounded really good. Had a nice organic quality to it that wasn't straining to the ears like some over processed modelling sounds can have. Nice work on creating some good tones.
  14. Okay after much trepidation and then an entire bucket load of consternation I finally made the leap to install the 2.50 FW update/upgrade to the head. Main reason being I wanted that handy dandy built in solo boost feature. The night I finally got the thing to update I had no problem setting up the solo boost on a patch whilst using the s/pdif out to my home stereo. Seemed so easy and painless. Now for the life of me I can't get it to work. I followed the very simplistic instructions on the old Vettaville site but I can't grasp why and how this doesn't work. I go to foot control on the amp head and turn the boost level up +5 db, assign the boost to the fx loop footswitch and then push save twice and it isn't working. Any insight as to what I'm doing wrong would be greatly appreciated. PS: I've tried with both the fbv shortboard original and the fbv shortboard mkii
  15. Very nice indeed, I've always really liked the look and design of the 513. very sharp looking guitars.
  16. I think they need to take the Helix guts and slam them into a nice amp with two 6L6GC's a handful of 12ax7's and have two 10" speakers like my Ampeg Gemini20 and have tilt back legs also. My Ampeg kicks proverbial butt and sounds fantastic, goes super loud and isn't ridiculously heavy like most tube driven 2x12's are. Guys are sick of these 120 lb 2x12 tube monsters. They get all scuffed, wreck your leather seats, wreck your spine, you always need a monkey drummer nearby to help you carry them up a big flight of stairs :P... Seriously though, make a killer 2x10 and 1x12 amp with the Helix innards and lots of cool functions like a Mesa studio caliber22 has and you've got yourself a winner. Not that something like that couldn't already be in the pipeline but I just wanted to throw a few suggestions out there.
  17. Yup you got it right BucF16. I set up a bunch of patches a while back at low volume and was sipping on a brewski and a friend was there as well having a few. Every patch I tweaked/made sounded great. What I thought anyways.... So then I've been having this problem for ages as mentioned in the posts above with DF. Now I know the problem as of yesterday. When I tweaked all those user presets I turned the channel volumes way down on the Vetta itself, for both amp channels and adjusted the pan for them as well. So when cranking up with the band they were horrible, dead, lifeless sounding. Was miserable. I even had the line level pad on my mixer "out" on one Vetta channel and then "in" on the other channel. Meaning two mixer channels used to run the Vetta in a LR stereo type rig. The distortion patches sounded cheesy and lame and the crunch didn't fair much better. Also because of the screwed up settings the P.A. sounded like a jet engine was about to take off even when everything was idle. So I figured after that band practice I would do the whole "User" reset and get everything back to scratch. A clean slate if you will. But because the factory and user patches are identical I thought I would just flip the amp to "Factory" patches first to see how they sounded/reacted. Voila!!!! everything I tried in the first few banks sounded like they should. BTW when I switched backed to factory everything (The peak meters) was screaming on the mixer so I PFL'd the two channels properly adjusting all the mixer channel gains perfectly. The patch Smokin' 45's sounded great for all sorts of medium gain crunch type songs. Chemistry 101 sounded excellent for WHite Wedding although seemed a touch loud lol. Identical Twins sounded pretty danged good and Surfs Up etc etc. So now what I'll do is do the User bank reset and then leave the patches alone pretty much except for maybe minor patch leveling and sound contouring without ruining them all again haha. Glad to have it all basically solved now, fingers crossed.
  18. Thanks guys, good info. And yes Napy the patch volume might be slightly higher on the lead patch I selected. Oddly enough I was watching some gear videos on Youtube and I saw a bunch of "SpiderValve Mkii edit" videos sitting there in the recommended section from longtime Line 6 user and fan Rowbinet. Seeing the computer editor page for the SV amp it showed wah values (volume) which what looks like can be set on a per patch basis. That's the thing I couldn't find on the amp editor itself. So I guess I'll have to hook the amp to my PC when I get my floorboard back that I lent to a friend and make the adjustments from there. Cheers for the help.
  19. Finally went to his place and the first thing I checked was the phantom power switch on the back of his mixer. Who's to say whether or not it got switched to off for the big "party" as he and his Dad were there beforehand tuning guitars and tweaking stuff. His Dad is an older gent who is an awesome all around musician. ANyways I decided to go with the XLR to 1/4" cables just to be on the safe side. The gain with the 12 string acoustic/electric seemed much better but when it came to the sound and patches on the electric it still seemed lousy. Went from a nice clean and then stomped on the FBV shortboard for crunch and almost blew the heads off of 20 ppl sitting there lol. After further review I decided it is my error as when I went home I tried it and it was the same. I'll blame ear fatigue as when I was dialling stuff in previous to this issue I had been playing at a loud level for hours and probably wanted a little more "punch" with the dirt channels compared to the clean. Well it was wayyyyy over the top, so I guess it's back to the drawing board I go
  20. Haven't used this beast in a while. Went to try it out yesterday and was having some fun with the 14 second quick loop. Just basic stuff like the chord progressions in Sweet Child In Time by Deep Purple and Blue Jean Blues by ZZ-Top 14 seconds doesn't allow for much else haha. Anyways I had some cool tones going on and some solo-ing etc and every time I engaged the wah for some extra spazmatic bliss the thing would almost blow your head off with the volume level increase. I skimmed through the manual online and it doesn't mention much, if anything, about adjustments that I could see. In edit mode it just looked like you could switch from the Vetta wah to something else. Glenn DeLaune even mentions in one of his new Helix videos how the wah volumes were always set extremely high compared to the patch volume in previous POD units and such. Any ideas anyone? Cheers
  21. Aha! I think you might be onto something dude! I checked the Yorkville website and I'm almost positive it is the VGM14 model. Upon examining it and looking at the zoomed pictures it has a global phantom power switch on the back. My A&H 32 ch has a +48 switch on each channel which of course are always off unless plugging in my Rode NT1-A condenser mic or other such apparatus. Everyone at his place plugs into the 1/4" jacks for everything and his kit has its own little dedicated summing mixer for his drums. Soooooo, I'm almost positive he will have the phantom power switch set to on by mistake. I'm just glad it didn't frazzle my Audix OM-3 or Sennheiser MD409 I plugged in there a few days ago. I can't wait to check that friggin thing now but it will probably be close to Xmas until I'm over there. Thanks for all your help DF. I'm pretty much convinced that will be the issue. Just for fun I'll take some nice Mogami male XLR to 1/4" leads I bought for my Lexicon MPX-G2 a while back.and use those to connect the Vetta to his mixer :) Cheers PS: I'll report back with the findings after my next visit there haha.
  22. Okay thanks a lot DF, I should have snapped a picture of his mixer or got the model number off of him so I could study it online. It all looks like a blur when it's someone else's stuff and you're just trying to focus on the music instead. It definitely didn't have dedicated phantom for each channel unless it was hidden on the back. One last weird thing, my 12 string acoustic/electric was barely audible with the Vetta into his mixer with the gain on the mixer channel strips basically maxed. He said try just going straight in....Gtr>Mixer with just one simple patch cord. No Vetta. Result, sounded awesome and tons of signal/gain from the guitar.
  23. So I spend ages dialing in the Vetta to sound great at home direct into my board via XLR. Figured that would be a great way to have the Vetta set up so it would sound good anywhere. WRONG! Okay, so at home I'm running into an Allen&Heath GL2200 with a Mackie SWA1801z high passed to two Mackie HD 1532's. EQ on the board defeated figuring that would be a good neutral way to dial in the tones on the Vetta. I made a great patch for my electrified acoustics, sound great. I equalized (evened out) all the volume differences for my electric guitar patches, sound great, nice and even sounding when switching. I'm pretty sure what I'm going to tell you will just be a "Line Level" issue but maybe someone might have a clue why there is such a demonstrable difference between gear. *Every time I take the Vetta to my bandmates and plug into his P.A. it turns to utter krap! It's a cheaper Yorkville mixer with built in effects and no line level pad switch like on my A&H. Even the volume differences between my clean and dirt patches are unreal and they sound brittle and tinny as heck. Horrid! Sound is great at home on my gear and horrible on his stuff. I've pretty much given up on lugging the thing there because it's so frustrating but I'm trying to have one "good" piece of gear that does it all, AC gtr and Elec gtr and I have the FBV shortboard and the mkii version as well so it's awesome when at home. And I was hoping "awesome" when eventually playing out. Now I'm not so sure. Is there some setting I'm missing? The signal seems non existant on his mixer and super hot on my board. My last resort basically is to just try the 1/4" outs from the Vetta to his Yorkville and hope that feeds his system the more appropriate "hotter" signal. So frustrating, the volume differences between patches and terrible sound of the Vetta at his place is the real mind boggling thing haha.
