  1. I'm hoping that the mid-Sept. date holds. I ordered early from Sweetwater (back in June). So I should be getting one of the first batch.
  2. Try writing support and explain your situation. They might send you the parts. Problem is in voiding the warranty. But in your situation it's worth a try. You'll need to go to the support section and put in a ticket.
  3. Welcome to the power transformer issue. :( Line 6 will send the parts to an authorized repair center and will pay for the repair. BUT...you'll have to get it to an authorized repair center, and from your post, it sounds like you are nowhere near one.
  4. Yeah, it was just a crazy idea I had. I looked around at the FRFR cabs. And they are plenty expensive. And I'll still bet they won't sound anywhere near as good as the HD500 (using pre's only and no cab) + DT 50 + Bogner 4x12 Greenback loaded. But having said that...I didn't even think about my Roland VGA-7 amp I have sitting around. It has a full range 2x12 with horns, and the cab rear ported . So if I really wanted to go FRFR I could simply bring in stereo outputs into the stereo power amp section of the VGA-7 and I'm already there. It's cabinet was made from the beginning with nothing but amp modeling in mind. :)
  5. Heck yeah. When he finally stops talking and starts playing...it's the first vid I've seen with just the amp sounds and not a ton of effects. That is what I wanted to hear!
  6. If they EVER make a wireless that works with VDI...I will be the first in line to buy it. It sucks being tied to that VDI cable and not wireless.
  7. I have to say that the sound that guy is getting with that Ax and FRFR cab doesn't sound anywhere near as good as what I'm getting with my dt50 hd500 and Bogner 4x12 cab. It sounds pretty cold to my ears. And not really any authentic "thump" in the bottom end that a real guitar cab brings. Maybe I'll just keep doing what I'm doing if that's the best that an FRFR setup brings. Don't get me wrong, it sounds good. But nothing like a real head through a cab. And I'm getting a real head through a cab sound right now running the hd 500 with no cab model into the dt50 and into the 4x12. Oh well, it was just an idea. :)
  8. I'll tell you something else I've been thinking about. I've read a lot of posts about full range cabs for running the HD500 through and which ones people are looking at for possible use with the forthcoming Helix. And it got me to thinking...Right now I'm using the HD500 (soon to be replaced with the Helix) into the DT50 and into a Bogner 4x12 loaded with Greenbacks. And it sounds great. I don't use the full amp models...just the preamp models and I don't use the cab sims in the HD500. So I'm getting a great sound from the tubes and the Bogner cab. But after reading about some of the most recommended full range cabs, I found that they are using Eminence full range speakers (the kind with the little built in mid range and tweeter like old car speakers back in the day) So what IF...I come out of the HD500 into the DT50, but I use the full amp model with the cab model and load up a 4X12 guitar cab with the same Eminence speakers that are being used by the best full range cabs? I think that would sound SWEET. You would get the full range sound WITH the tube coloration of the DT50 power amp section.
  9. When did you make your order with Sweetwater? I made mine pretty early and still haven't been told that it's been pushed back by Matt at Sweetwater.

    Helix manual

I'd love to be reading up on it too so that when I finally get mine I'll already be familiar with it.
  11. I've had trouble with it since the beginning. Wouldn't seem to stay in tune, which is weird for a "floyd rose" type trem. Also noticed that no matter what I did the low "E" and "A" strings would go sharp by almost a full step when I tightened the locking nut down and the high "E" and "B" would somehow go flat! I finally got tired of it and got out the old metal file and did some work on the nut and got it a bit better. Then I went ahead and ordered an R10 size locking nut from Floyd Rose. It got here yesterday. First thing I noticed when I took the nut off the JTV was that it was damn near "hollow" and weighed almost nothing next to the Floyd nut. What I mean by "hollow" is that it only is solid in the "middle", it has the outer edges of the bottom sticking out for the correct height. So right away you're not getting full contact with the entire nut! Once I replaced the crappy nut that came with the guitar and put the real Floyd nut on it...the tuning problem is gone. What a joy to tune now! And it stays in tune as well. I tuned it up, clamped the locking nuts down and only had to tweak the fine tuners just slightly...the way it's supposed to be. Just wanted to give my experience on this in case anyone else is having the same problem with a defective nut. Just get the Floyd Rose "Pro" series locking nut size R10 and your problems are solved.
  12. I always liked being able to simply push down on the pedal a bit to engage the wah. I hate having to stomp around on the pedal to try and get the damn toe switch to click on when I'm onstage and singing into a mic and can't be looking down. :(
  13. Less than $300 shipped to my door. :)
  14. As promised, here are pics of the DT50112 chassis in the head case.
  15. I've never even heard of "convulsion technology" :) So I'll just concede to you that piezo's are passing along actual audio instead of simple sting vibrations to the modeling software. It still is neccessary to use a piezo or proprietary technology like the GK divided pickup to isolate each string. A magnetic pickup really DOES capture audio from the string and the wood of the guitar. Which would make it impossible to put 6 different magnetic pickups on the guitar (one for each string). Still not sure how the piezo's could be doing actual audio capture and be able to isolate the strings individually. This is from the Music Man website describing how their piezo pickups work: "Piezo pickups use crystals that generate a signal when you pick the string. Our piezo pickups are built into each saddle. The piezo transducers create an acoustic tone by picking up on the vibration of the wood." Here's another description of how piezos work: Piezos work by picking-up sound vibrations from a musical instrument as it is played. The vibrations are converted into electrical energy, which is sent via connection wire to an amplification or recording device. That's why I was saying that they are acting as a "trigger" (the only analogy I could come up with). The actual audio created on a guitar with a piezo is a sort of "acoustic" sound. Having owned a couple of guitars in the past that had piezos as well as magnetics I can tell you that the piezo's were there to try and "fake" an acoustic sound with a clean setting. Sounded horrible with distortion. So my educated guess would be that Line 6 would want no part of that kind of sound to deal with and would instead simply use the signal generated by the piezo crystals to feed the electronics in the guitar. But if you say I'm wrong...that's cool. It's not important. Just wanted to clarify why I said what I said. :) Bottom line is magnetic pickups simply would not work for this application, regardless of frequency response.
  16. clay-man, it doesn't have anything to do with frequency response of piezo vs magnetic. In modeling the piezo is simply a "trigger" for the modeling software and doesn't pass on any actual sound (that is all created by the modeling software) Now, if you were not modeling and simply using the piezo as an actual output audio signal...they can approximate a kind of cool "acoustic" sound. But you wouldn't want to turn up the gain with it...unless you like the sound of a distorted crappy acoustic. lol For instance Roland uses their GK divided pickup to get 6 different triggers (one per string) and Variax uses piezo pickups (6 of them...one per string). The only reason is so that they can trigger each string individually for modeling (you obviously can't do alt tunings with a magnetic pickup because it would "capture" all the strings at once instead of individually)
  17. Maybe it's the Korean ones that have the problems...like mine. I'm guessing that guys like Steve Howe are using the far more expensive USA made ones.
  18. Looks like it will be arriving here on Tuesday according to Fedex tracking. Once I get it I'll take pics of it with the chassis installed for you to see.
  19. So what is the release date for the DT-HELIX? And can us old DT-50 owners send out amps back in and have them re-tooled to be DT-HELIX amps? I will now start posting this on every site and give theguys a huge headache at Line 6 as you deal with the newest rumor. lol J/K
  20. I will post up "after" pics after I get it and install the chassis into it.
  21. They got a little behind and didn't finish it until today. So I'm hoping to get it by the end of this week (hopefully). Peter Mather sent me these pics today of the finished product: That's http://mathercab.com for anyone that wants to do this as well.
  22. On their site they make the skins just for the headstock. It's in the "Custom" section. You have to give them the measurements of the headstock.
  23. Looking at this website: http://www.skinyourskunk.com/custom-design-guitar-skins.html Thinking I could maybe get them to make a plain black skin to go over the headstock.
  24. I love the way my JTV 89F looks...EXCEPT for the horrendous "variax" logo all over the headstock.
