I did this last night. And YES! The sound I am getting out of the Helix to the P.A. is the best I've ever heard. No "fizz", tons of tube warmth, and it sounds like it's coming out of a guitar cabinet in the mains!

Hey Colonel...I know a way you could do it with the DT Amp and really get the topology. First you need an attenuator that connects between the amp speaker output and the cabinet. The one I have is the Riviera Rock Crusher: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/RockCrusher First use DT Edit to go into the DT50 and turn off all the preamps, cabs, and microphone models in the DT50. Then come out of one of the Helix effect loops and into the guitar input on the DT50 (putting the loop after the amp model on the Helix). Now come out of the signal line out of the Riviera Rock Crusher back into the effects loop return of the Helix. Then just place the cab model or cab IR after the loop and you've got your real tube tone and topology right there in your signal chain of the Helix. :)

Colonel Forbin, I never thought of that concept. But it sure does sound good the "old" way: Helix to DT 50 amp to real guitar cab. :)
-
If you have a DT 50 or DT 25 amp you can already mix and match preamp to power amp with the Helix. :)
-
Mine sounds awesome through my DT50 and Bogner cab. I'm going to try running a real tube preamp in the effects loop and see if I can get some of that tube magic going direct to the P.A. with it.

I would think you would come out of the load box via an xlr cable and use the xlr input of the helix to do it and it would work. Just like you would running into a mixer out of the load box

That seems like an awkward way to have to do it. :(

Look guys...the employees of Line 6 have been told to NOT talk about it. That's the bottom line. As for the "legality" of it...of course that's not the true legality. If it were...then they wouldn't have "legally" been allowed to talk about Helix at all until the day it hit stores. Instead, they talked about it constantly and what it could do and even made videos to show us for months in advance. So yes....they can legally tell us what they are working on. Just like anyone can. But NO...they can NOT tell us what the next update may or may not have because their employment and livelihood depend on it. In my humble opinion they should have a sticky on the forum that is locked and can't be posted in that simply has Digital Igloo saying that under no circumstances will anyone be told what is in the next update. No need for trying to talk about "legality". Just a simple message that says "NO". That way new people to the forum won't be pissed off and confused anymore. :)

Holy crap...I just re-read your original post. I must have read it wrong. I thought you said they were selling them for $100 OR less. LOL! Now you probably can see why I asked you if that was a joke or not. :) Sorry for the confusion. It was user error on my part. lol

Did it: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=line6%20helix&LH_Complete=1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2045573.m1684 Don't see any for a hundred bucks though.

Can you post the link to the "completed listings"?

Is that a joke on your part? I just went to Ebay and did a search. Nothing.

Right now I'm running out of the 1/4" left out of the Helix into the effects return of the DT amp. At first it didn't sound all that great to me. But then I read a post where Digitaligloo said that a lot of guitar amps effects send and return is at instrument level. So I went into global settings and changed the 1/4" outs to "instrument" level (they are "line" level by default). That seemed to do the trick. I think the line level was possibly overloading the effects return of the DT amp. Anyway, I'm not changing topography's. That was always a loud "pop" that I didn't like when I was using my HD500 with full functionality. I ended up changing all the topographies to IV (which sounded the best with the Treadplate in the HD500 which I used for my main sound). And that's what I did now with the Helix. I just set the topography on IV and leave it there. Nice and easy and it sounds great. This will have to do until they can get the Helix L6 link working correctly.

I saw a post from Digital Igloo saying that most tube amp "effects return" that gets you into just the power amp section are "instrument level".

LOL! Cool. I was thinking it was some kind of great "Frankenstein" patch that you guys were keeping to yourself!
-
Where is it in Helix? For months it was the only patch we saw in the vids, and it's in all the promo pics. But I can't find it anywhere. :(
-
I think you are going to have to send it back and get a new one.

Well that was a lot of discussion... :) I'm just wondering if Line 6 is any closer to making the app work with Win 10. lol Also...this message board doesn't play well with the new Edge browser either when posting. Not sure why. It's the only forum I'm a member of that has that problem. So I switch over to Firefox to post.

Thanks DI...by the way, I wasn't proposing that you disobey your boss's directives. I was suggesting that instead of releasing the new firmware with no mention of the DT amp at all, that perhaps you could have just simply said: For all you DT amp guys, this update does not fix the L6 integration. That's what I mean by not giving us any idea of what's going on. Instead of all of us with DT amps feverishly trying out the new firmware with high hopes, we could have just known what's going on. As I said in my original post, since we are kept in the dark about the very products we have purchased...I can tell that SOMETHING was being worked on because of the different behavior I'm seeing in what the L6 link is doing with the DT amp after the firmware upgrade. So I let those people who are looking for the solution know what I saw. It would have been better coming from Line 6 instead of someone like me who has no affiliation with the company. And that was my meaning when I said that Line 6 isn't doing a good job in keeping us informed. Anyway, I didn't mean anything towards you personally. My apologies if I came across as insulting you in any way :)

I can confirm that it's still not working. It looks like they took a shot at it though. But couldn't get it done in time. I say that because it's no longer hitting the preamp section of the DT amp anymore. BUT...it only seems to kind of work when you set the topology to III BEFORE you plug in the L6 link from the Helix. Once you plug it in...the topology indicators on the DT amp go out. And unless you chose III before you connected the Helix to the DT via L6....you have no sound at all. So that leads me to conclude that they started trying to figure it out, but decided to hold off on it until they could get the other bugs fixed in the update. Got to say though...Line 6 is really bad about communicating with their customers. Doesn't seem like it would have been a big deal to just add in the original post: "We are still working on DT integration, please have patience" That's the kind of little thing that goes a long way.

Hoping they get that Helix app working on Windows 10 ASAP
-
Update is still not showing in the Line 6 Updater or on the downloads page for Helix on Line6.com
-
I actually like Windows 10. It's worked great. Just hoping that the Helix app gets brought up to spec quickly.

Compatibility mode was the first thing I tried after it crashed the first time. :(
