  1. I'm having absolutely no issues running my 500x with my Alto TS110As and they don't sound half too bad, either. Comparing them to my K10 that I own for keys.. There is absolutely NO justification getting a pair of those for a stereo setup at the price it would be. I own some Behringer B212Ds and used them to decide if I wanted 2 more for my 500x monitoring. No way. WAY too much flop in the low end. The Harbingers were crap. The EV I was looking at for $400 was too heavy (back issues). The B210D Behringers had a very harsh high end.I have a pair of Carvin 10" Actives on their way as we speak to decide if I want them over the Altos. The only thing I found worth purchasing thus far for under $300 were the Altos. Comparing them to the rest of the sub $300 active full range products that I have personally tried, they easily sound best to my ear for guitar playback. Enough equipment bashing/debating/whatever you want to call it. I'm running the 500x in studio direct mode. L/R 1/4" outputs to my 2 active cabs for playback. L/R XLR outputs to FOH.
  2. Just noticed you're in Carlisle, I'm about an 1 1/4 hours northeast of you.. Lol. I was actually just in Harrisburg for the week, 2 weeks ago.
  3. So I got an HD500x and picked up a pair of Alto TS110A Cabs. When running an FRFR rig live.. I have a question as to how you route everything. Would you take your L/R 1/4" outputs and run one to each cab, and run your L/R XLR outs to FOH -OR- Run your L/R XLR outputs to each cab and run another XLR from the XLR output on each cab to FOH?
  4. I've been lucky.. So far, haha.
  5. FWIW, I hope I'm right, lol. I'm in the market for something better priced than an L2m for FRFR playback for my HD500x. Seeing if this is worth it before I go out and buy some PA cabs.
  6. If you look at the pictures.. There are tell tale signs of what is in it. Picture 1.) "The day you meet your match" - Kind of obvious that It's going to have SOME sort of tone matching capabilities via ios.. Or does it? A lot of people on a lot of forums are saying tone match.. Here's what I'm saying. Tone recommendation. I think that it will hear the guitar in a song, and make a recommendation preset for you. Some may call that tone matching. I do not. Picture 2/3.) No point really, in these.. Or is there? Picture 2, if you look at it.. At the right angle.. You can see the outline of the cabinet. Almost appears to be a 2x12 or 2x10 cab. Picture 3 shows nothing of interest aside from "The guitar amp, reinvented". Picture 4.) Just shows a volume knob and says "Rise above the noise". Picture 5.) Very promising image. Could this be the FRFR guitar amp that a lot of us have been hoping for? Really looks like it from this picture. Picture 6.) Effect selection and amp integration into ios. This makes me speculate a lot of things. Is this going to be something like the Digitech iStomp but in modeling amp form? Will you be able to purchase amp sims, effects, etc? Or, when you buy the amp.. Does a virtual POD Farm come with it? Will this amp have an L6 Link? If this amp is going to have cloud based effect selection and amp sims.. Why would they include L6 Link? Now, one of my favorite things to speculate. The blend knob from the video/photo. My theory. This is a FRFR cab, I'm presuming. It appears to be wide enough for 2 drivers. So we're now going to say that this is a Stereo FRFR Amp. I'd take a guess to say that the blend knob would to be to blend signal into mono/stereo.. Like having one amp L and the other R.. Then giving you the ability to merge your separate L/R stereo signal into a centered mono signal. What I wouldn't understand though.. Is why they wouldn't offer L6 Link if my suggestion of what it is, is accurate. They would almost be (and I use this in a nice way) stupid not to. I just hope that if I'm right (and it does have L6 Link), that the amp isn't cluttered with buttons and knobs I'll never use for the ios integration and that it is a little more affordable than a DT series amp or the L2m/L2t. I'd like to see it around $500.. Less would be asking too much, but I wouldn't complain. Honorable mention to the Reverb and FX knob also in the photo of the blend knob, to its left. I only hope that the FX knob doesn't mean no L6 Link. Perhaps though.. It will let you have L6 Link and the FX knob acts as a global effect on the amp, like what appears to be with the Reverb knob. Also will mention the Treble or Presence knob to the left of the FX knob. Pretty sure It's a Treble knob. /speculation What do y'all think? As much as I'd love this to be what I'm saying that I see it to be.. There are also the right elements for this to be more of an entry level amp to replace the Spider series.. Including "tone match". FX knob could mean only ONE other effect allowed aside from Reverb. You have a choice of what it is via ios (or maybe usb connection to computer). No L6 Link, Could be a little 8" speaker and a tweeter for a small handful of onboard amp sims and not be stereo at all. Blend could mean, to blend your guitar signal with a line in or wireless connection to play mp3s. It could just be a "wide body" cabinet and only look like a 2x12 or 2x10. But would a beginner amp really be worthy of saying that they "reinvented the amp, again"? Could be absolutely none of the above.
  7. Had the same issue with my EX-1 and Shortboard when I had them. Definitely not because he's using a different brand pedal. That's my chime in.
  8. I don't think It's going to be a flagship amp. Seems to me it'll be more StageSource based as far as design concept. Don't know if you saw the new clue yesterday, but there is a different release date on it from the original "clues" we all received. This one from yesterday lists a reveal date of the first day of NAAM 14, rather than the second day of NAAM 14.
  9. Hoping for a new edition to the Dream Rig concept as far as playback is concerned.. But at a price point cheaper than the L2t.. Doubt It's gonna happen.. But I can always dream, hahahaha.
  10. You really can't beat Mackies. I used to work at a music store that sold Peavey gear.. And although the PA equipment is built like a tank.. I never cared for the preamps in them. For what It's worth.. The Yamaha mixers are fantastic, as well. Personally, I think they're a bit quieter than the Mackie mixers. I use a Yamaha in my studio. Don't know if you NEED the 24 XLR inputs, but the Yamaha MG206C-USB has 16 XLR inputs (I think they call it a "20" channel) and also has USB capabilities. That'd be an added bonus in my book but everyone is different. I use one of these in my studio and new, they're only $680 via Sweetwater.
  11. I have had issues with Behringers mixers.. I went through 2 of them that showed up DOA.. I was in a jam because I needed a mixer that day (at that point) so I picked one up used at a local used shop. Got me through the night, then crapped out on me the next day. I eventually saved the pennies and bought a Mackie.. Which is what I should have done in the first place. Their early Bugera amps.. Went through a handful.. One of which started smoking and nearly caught fire. A few other products by them I could mention but their active PA cabs have been gold. I've owned 4 of the B212Ds for quite a while now.. Have 2 B210Ds and 2 B208Ds that I use for monitors when needed, as well. I plan on picking up a pair of the B1500D active subs very soon as we do a lot of bigger venues and outdoor venues and it would be nice to have a pair of subs for those events.
  12. I appreciate the response. Any way you shake it, I was planning on running XLR outs to FOH. I am however, still thinking about picking up a Mackie SRM150 or Behringer B205D.. Because of portability. I don't really care (to he honest) if I can monitor myself in stereo.. I'll be able to hear (and create my tones) what everything will sound like at FOH because I own the system, so as long as I can hear what I'm playing via monitor, I'll be happy. Thank you again for your response, I guess what I needed was to hear someone confirm things that I already was thinking!
  13. Another thought that I already have in front of me (should have been obvious [And I can run in stereo]). I have a pair of Behringer B208D Active PA Cabs.. I've been running through them via 1/4" outputs on the HD500X and have been pretty happy with the results. Would I be set just running them as monitors and sending the XLR outs to FOH? EDIT: Another thought is to pick up one of those Crate Powerblocks.. But they do seem to have reliability issues or that solution would be gold for me as this combination gets tremendous reviews where I have found mention of them. Would pair up to my 2- 1x12 cabs nicely. EDIT 2: Yet another thought.. If I'm just monitoring.. I could pick up a Mackie SRM150 or Behringer B205D (Would probably pick up the Mackie over the Behringer). Run L/R 1/4" to the monitor and XLR L/R to FOH. Both of those units get great reviews.
  14. I have a few tube combos.. Only one has an FX loop (My Mesa Subway Rocket 22). Mesa is known for (and I tend to agree with through trial and error) somewhat crappy FX loops. Anything sub $400 that is decent to run an HD500X through using the 4CM? I'm open to any and all ideas.. And no, it doesn't have to be a tube amp. I'd somewhat prefer it not to be, as I have some back issues.. And it gets tough to lift much over 25 lbs. I've been eyeing up the Tech 21 Trademark 30. I don't need anything big and flashy. EDIT: I'd also be open to poweramp / cab options but would prefer to be able to just carry a combo.
  15. I got my Variax 700 on Thursday and tried the alternate tuning via Workbench.. I wasn't really.. Thrilled with it. It's do-able, for now. The guitar itself.. Absolutely fantastic, I won't ever look back. I tried the Tronical Tune system at NAMM when I went with the shop I work for and they're hands down, incredible. Takes literally 2 seconds to go to any desired tuning (which I use a lot of with my solo live loop rig). The problem with me really, is that I use too many open tunings to program into 10 custom slots, when taking into consideration that I do need some of those custom slots for other noise that I make besides alternate tunings. I use about 5-6 alternate tunings.. But that varies between 4-5 different instruments. I'd need about 3 1/2 custom banks, lol. Again, I'm impressed by the thing so much that I won't ever look at another option for the type of gigs I'm doing. Beats the hell out of carrying about 5 different instruments. I was turned off by Line 6 when they first came out with the early PODs. Always have been a hardcore tube guy (still am but some complicated back issues are making me turn to lightweight digital gear).. But Line 6 is definitely winning me over, tbh. I'll still always have my Boogie, Soldano, and Budda.. But I probably won't ever carry them out again, haha.
  16. I plan on putting robot tuners on it.. If they fit. It isn't completely necessary though.
  17. Picking up a used Variax 700 Electric on Thursday. I plan on upgrading the tuners to the Tronical Tune system and can't find anywhere online the Spacing between the Tuning Pegs and the size of the hole.. My guess is probably 10mm.. But a definite answer on both questions would be very much appreciated. I'm convinced that one of their models would probably fit.. Or need minimal work to make them fit. Also getting a POD XT Live with the deal. Thanks a bunch guys and gals!
