  1. It's odd how some people have bother updating and others don't. I updated mine without a hitch. The whole process took less than 4 minutes. Just connected the JTV to my POD HD Pro, selected the device in Monkey and presto. Perhaps it's an issue with the interface through the 500X or the USB interface with the PC.
  2. I don't know how, but I had changed the O/P mode without putting it back to studio/direct. I didn't even bother checking this because I thought to myself "it'll never be the O/P mode because I leave it in Studio/Direct" Thank you
  3. My son has been using my HD Pro to record some bass for a project. He had set up a patch that he was happy with and recorded part of the material, but when he went to do some recording today the tone was sounding very thin and nothing like the parts he had already recorded. Although he hadn't backed up the patch, the settings haven't been changed to my knowledge. Are there any global settings that might have this sort of effect that I should check? Thanks.
  4. They are very good, but personally I don't think they are quite as good as you can get with the DT25. I use my L3t for acoustic models and switch to the DT for electric, which is why the L6 link issue I described above doesn't really bother me too much.
  5. Yes, you can. Just hook them up with L6 link: POD > DT > L2. You can edit the patches in the POD on page 9/10 (L6 Link Audio) to use DT and/or L2. You can mute the one you don't want to use. The only issue I know of is that the speaker mode of the L2 won't be saved in the patch if you're hooked up via a DT, but if you're just using the L2 for acoustic tones then leave it set to the Acoustic Guitar speaker mode.
  6. What are the L6 link updates? I have had issues with not being able to store my L3t speaker mode when connected after the DT in the L6 link chain. Wonder whether this will fix the issue?
  7. No, you don't need to update the DT's firmware if you're using it with the 500. Yes, Midi-USB should allow you to do it (although I never managed to with my Midi-USB cable).
  8. No worries! Was probably in an earlier firmware version as you say. I must admit, being able to set the specific tuning in the POD interface and store/recall it from the patch is one of my favourite features. peter2014 - I have a POD HD Pro, but I suspect the interface is broadly the same on the 500x. Try this: 1. Plug in JTV via VDI first or you won't see the tuning page. 2. Press and hold 'View', then page through to 8/10 when editing the desired patch 3. Use knob 1 to change variax tuning setting from 'Don't force' to 'Custom' 4. Use knobs 3 & 4 to set tuning for each string 5. Save patch That's all I do anyhow. Same process for setting the model, just on page 7/10.
  9. silverhead - I don't think that's right. All my tuning and model selections are programmed into my POD HD Pro with the tone. I don't bother with those selector knobs at all unless I'm just noodling at home. But, if I've changed the knob to say, Open G, then hit my patch that is set to drop D, everything changes OK. May be different behaviour in the 500, but I doubt it...
  10. I've got a PRS SE Singlecut and a JTV59. They are both nice guitars, both well made and both a step up from the Squier. The JTV is qute a bit more expensive, but obviously comes with all the modelling that will complement your POD. My PRS has a slightly thinner neck and the body is a little thinner too, but I tend to play the JTV more as I like the modelling capability. My advice - try both out and see which you prefer. I wouldn't like to choose!!
  11. I get the same response from the mixer input on the back, but the side inputs seem to be OK, but that might be just because the issue is less noticeable in acoustic guitar mode. I've only had the speaker for 6 weeks and haven't yet made a great deal of use of it. I've got a call in with the shop that I bought it from, hoping that it will be replaced under warranty.
  12. The same issue is evident playing pre-recorded music back through the RCA jacks. Here is a recording - the transition starts just after 1 minute in. Cycling the speaker mode obviously changes the tonal qualities for each of the different modes, but when I get back to Reference/PA there is no change. It seems to be OK for a minute or so after powering up, but then it all changes. I have also performed the same test from power up in each of the speaker modes. They all exhibits the same issue - going between 'normal' sound and then gradually losing the high frequency content. Sometimes it gradually comes back after a little while, but not always. It's definitely most noticeable in the Reference/PA and Playback modes. The side inputs (with an acoustic guitar and the speaker in Acoustic guitar mode) seem to be OK - or at least the issue isn't as obvious.
  13. Hi, thanks for the info. I was hearing most of the sound through the bottom woofer as you say, but whilst playing there was a marked change in tone - all the sparkle from the piezo was lost - then it came back, without me doing anything. I appreciate that I might not have mic'ed up the speaker properly, but I just wanted to compare the direct POD audio to the sound from the speaker to rule out the JTV and POD as being the cause. the change in tone is clearly audible when playing. I'm going to run some more tests this afternoon, so I'll be sure to check the other inputs. The firmware version is 1.03 (I held in the feedback suppression button when powering up, and when I released it the display flashed L301.030, I think)
  14. Just spent the morning troubleshooting this issue to make sure I am absolutely clear on where the issue lies. After simultaneously recording direct out of the POD and from a condenser mic in front of the L3t, I can clearly hear changes in the tone from the L3t, whereas the direct channel is consistent. Just to be absolutely sure there was no issue with the variax, I repeated using the piezo output from my LP. Same issue, except the tone started off dark and then brightened up. It sounds like the tweeter in the L3t is performing intermittently, which is not very good from a piece of expensive kit that I have had for less than 2 months. Oh joy...warranty claim pending.
  15. I have been noticing changes in the tone from my L3t whilst playing my JTV59 (acoustic and tele models mainly). One minute the sound is fine, then all of a sudden (and for no obvious reason) there is a bit of a pop and the tone gets very dark, losing all the high end frequencies. From what I can tell, only the lower driver is outputting sound from the L3t. If I take a DI from the POD's balanced output and feed that into the mixer input, I get the same result. The L3t is in PA/Reference mode and is connected to my POD via L6 link, and I am using a VDI connection from the Variax to the POD. I have tried feeding the L6 link into my DT amp head and the tone is fine, and the DI into my audio interface and monitors also sounds fine. Do I have a defective L3t, or is there some magic trick to make it sound nice again?
  16. Well, I'm definitely not imagining it. It is most noticeable when I was using a tele model and an acoustic model, one minute it sounded fine, then all of a sudden I lost all the high frequencies. Sounds fine through my monitors, so I have to put it down to the L3t. I tried the tele model via Line 6 link through my DT amp head and that too sounded fine. I tried one one of the balanced outs from my POD via a DI into the mixer input on the L3t and that too sounded bad. Time for a post in the Stagesource forum to see if they can advise...
  17. I was just playing my JTV59 through the POD HD Pro connected by L6 link to my L3t and I'm sure the tone was changing without my doing anything other than playing the guitar. It wasn't like it was switching patches or anything like that, but the tone seemed to be getting brighter one minute and then darker the next. Really weird... Maybe it was my playing style or maybe I was just hearing things. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? The L3t was on PA/Reference speaker mode and I have latest firmware in both the JTV and POD. I was using a dreadnought model on the JTV with just a bit of compression, EQ and reverb from the POD.
  18. Well, I agree with the OP. I'm really happy with the combination of my POD HD Pro and DT25 head. I've recently added got an L3t as well and that too is great if I want to run direct or use acoustics. I've been through a fair number of amps and processors over the years - admittedly nothing very high end - but this is by far the happiest I have been with my tone, ease of set up and flexibility within any rig I have owned.
  19. When I connected HD > L3 > DT, the L3 speaker mode was saved with the patch in the HD, but any changes to the DT's topology settings (I, II, III, IV, Class A, A/B etc) were not saved in the patch. I'm not sure whether the DT's knob settings were stored, but they can be set via the HD amp model in any case. To be honest, there were more compromises with the DT last in the chain, so I'm making do with the L3 just for acoustic tones and only the DT for electric. This just means if I want to have dual amp patches, I can't use the L3 for one of the amp models unless I manually change it's speaker mode.
  20. I use the tuner on my HD Pro. I sold my Korg rack tuner and haven't noticed any adverse effects.
  21. Looks like he's using the VDI, judging by the stiffness of that lead.
  22. This is good news, but I've always found that you need to have the DT running at very high levels to get any appreciable signal out the XLR. I have previously tried running it into the mic input of a ZOOM R16 portable recorder, but the signal was too low to be of any use in my recording environment (and I have a DT25!). It's a pity the XLR level isn't tied to the DT's master master volume control, as with the latest POD HD firmware you can leave the DT master up high and control the actual volume level from the POD HD Master volume control. Unfortunately, this doesn't have any effect on the level from the DT's XLR out.
  23. The POD HD Pro has a power switch too. I don't use it though, cos I switch mine off at the conditioner in the rack.
