  1. Lol. The link you posted doesn't work for me. :D I think it has to do with the number of posts viewed per page on TGP. Mine is set to 50.

    Helix FAQ

The only area I see that lacks is effects. Not necessarily in the quality, but quantity and flexibility beyond just routing options. What would absolutely be awesome is if a modifier could be attached to any effect, much like Fractal Audio does.
  3. There's a post by Sean on TGP about this series of videos.
  4. If you're good with electronics and have the right equipment, you could try fixing it yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlY3sV4UXk4 Otherwise, if you can get it replaced from wherever you bought it, or get it fixed by an authorized Line 6 service center, or other place that can repair electronic equipment.
  5. Yea. The bass sounds were good.
  6. They still have yet to fix the bug introduced in the last update where the DEP values are not shown.

    Helix FAQ

So it sounds like they have completely abandoned the resonator (res, thump, decay)?
  8. Thanks for the side by side with the EP1-L6.
  9. Only you can really answer your question. Others can offer a different perspective. - You won't always be at the same level you think you are at now, so... - Most people only live once, and shortly at that. - If you really like playing the guitar (hobby now? maybe more serious later? who knows?) why not spend the money on a most likely very decent piece of gear that will also likely last a long, long time. Spanning a decade, maybe more, is $1500 really that much? - Maybe it will inspire you in some way to improve at guitar that much quicker. I was struggling too whether or not I need to get one of these. Probably I don't, a HD500X does fine for me, but I know for certain I will eventually. I called a place yesterday with the intention of pre-ordereding one, but didn't because I think I can do better than 6.67% off, which is what I was offered. The more time passes the more I'll have trouble keeping my mits off, and any reasons, rational or not, for not getting one, be damned.
  10. I had trouble with sound on one of the preview versions also. Sound through the video card's hdmi to my monitor worked fine, but nothing through an add-in pci-e soundcard, even though nothing indicated that anything was wrong. In fact, the little meter in playback devices was showing a signal! If I remember right, what fixed it was going into device manager, under 'Sound, video and game controllers' select the device that produces no sound, right click on it and disable it. Then enable it. This might be better if it works for you because you don't have to mess around with playback quality, which should work regardless of the setting.
  11. Well, I contacted Line 6 and they confirmed it: a REPO dept is going to be created on behalf of radatats! Unfortunately, this siphons off resources from the continuing improvement of Helix. Thanks a lot radatats! That is just so residually Evil.
  12. And is Line 6 going to have to create a REPO department just to come after you?
  13. There really is no visual indication of a global reset, other than if you turned off the tap-tempo led, now it will be flashing again. If you changed any global settings prior to a reset, such as output mode, fs mode, trails, lcd contrast, etc. from their defaults, they will have returned to default settings. Doing a reset doesn't affect any presets, custom or otherwise.
  14. Might also want to check, I heard there was recent firmware upgrade.
  15. Pressing the left key while powering on does a global reset. After doing a global reset you'll also need to do a pedal calibration.
  16. I suspected there's a reason to stick with Windows 7. Now I know what it is. Thanks.
  17. What a graceful, smooth, and flowing guitarist playing a quite beautiful song. There's a lot more going on there than just the amp tone. Will Helix make people into musicians like that if Line 6 adds a Freidman amp pack? :)
  18. After I broke the High E with the cobalts, I quickly removed the whole set. Didn't like them very much. They felt ... strange, and had a weird tonal quality to them. Went back to the same strings and gauge you use. I've always had the strings break at the saddles on an Ibanez Edge for as long as I can remember. I think it's mostly just metal fatigue on the string, because it breaks just before the contact point with the saddle. I did do what you did for the high E saddle once as far as the fine emery paper, and cleaned any gunk off after with rubbing alcohol, but the wax and graphite sounds like an interesting idea. Whenever I remove the bridge I'll clean the knife edges and posts and put a little chapstick on it before putting it back in. Works great.
  19. They do last long. A lot longer than a set of Ernie Ball Cobalts; the high E broke in the first day. I'll usually put a completely fresh set on every few months, but am constantly breaking strings. Fortunately they almost always break at the saddles, so I just unwind some more string and re-clamp it. After a couple of months, they look like they've been through a meat grinder.
  20. You could try doing a pedal calibration. That might fix the odd volume behavior you describe. Can't change the taper, unfortunately. To fix the tension, tighten the allen bolt a little. It's on the outside edge on the pedal's axis of movement.
  21. Depends on how obsessively compulsive one feels on any particular day.
  22. Only Windows and Mac software exist for the HD. Besides, Windows 7 will still be around for a long time. If I get Helix, I know I'll be one that uses the PC software to edit, despite both being the same or similar, simply because most of the time my attention is already focused on the DAW.
  23. Line 6 also has way better distribution than the other higher end units. I really despise the idea of having to get an "invitation" to purchase something.
  24. Good advice. I've been dual booting between 10 and 7 and 10 is far from ready for release IMHO. Windows 7 runs just fine for everything I do and currently Windows 10 breaks some things, not to mention they are developing the bad practice of forcing things on the end user. Not cool.
  25. Gotta say the effects list is disappointing for a $1500 dollar device. Oh well. Hopefully it grows over time. The rest looks great.
