Ok. Thanks. Awesome. That's how I first thought it worked until I started reading some in this thread. Whew!

How exactly does this work? I can't make sense of this. The phrase 'assigning on/off functionality of certain blocks' is rather cryptic. So if assigning the mid and gain parameters from two models, amp and overdrive effect, to one switch, and then the switch is engaged, what happens to the values? Do they go from what they were set at when the patch was saved to absolute maximum, since the min and max can't be defined (like with the expression pedal)? And does the mode a switch is in make a difference? I guess I really don't see the point of being able to assign a parameter to a switch without also being able to define the range of that parameter. It seems like an unfinished, half-implementation. I have to agree with mbegigni that this is indeed a drag if true.

I believe the reference to a template is nothing more than a preset, setup in a way to accomplish a specific task.

Did you get to use the expression pedal, and if you did, how does it feel? If you've tried HD's pedal how does it compare? Maybe an odd question, but did you happen to notice how warm Helix gets?

Both links work for me on IE11 in win7, and portable versions of firefox, chrome, and opera.

The second link you listed above is the only reference I've ever seen unofficially indicating that Helix's expression pedal outputs are TS. I played it safe and ordered one of these, EP1-L6. Works great with my HD500X, although the decreased physical sweep range might take a little getting used to as compared to HD's exp pedal. Both links above are not the product specific pedal from Mission Engineering, which lists Helix specifically on it's page, which makes Helix's exp outputs likely TS. Also, the reason I suspect the outputs are only TS is because that's what's on the HD.

Best LOL moment of the day so far. Thanks! I was under the impression that the expression pedal inputs on Helix are TS? But a TRS cable would work, just that the ring part isn't physically used?

Using HD Edit, select the setlist tab and slow double-click the setlist name you want to rename. Using the device, press the setlist button, then highlight the setlist you want to rename by turning the setlist button, then hit save.

This midi stuff sure is confusing. So there are two modes for a switch, a toggle and a momentary mode. Is this correct? For momentary mode, there is a CC#, say 55 for switch5, with the value range split in half to indicate when a block(s) assigned to switch5 should turn on or off, like phil said above. So if using a DAW, or other method, to control Helix, sending a value of 0-64 using CC55 will turn whatever is assigned to switch5 on, even if it's already on (if it's off it turns on), and stays on until it receives a CC55 with a value 64-127, at which point it turns all assigned blocks off, even if some blocks were originally on. Is that the mechanics for momentary mode? For toggle mode, is there a different CC# where any value sent, 0-127, just toggles any assigned blocks? Or what determines the mode a switch is using? Are the different modes even applicable to midi? Am I over-thinking this?

You could load the setlist/bundle, but don't send it to the device, rather drag and drop the patch(es) you want to your file manager. You might even be able to do this in offline mode, if you don't use anything from any of the amp packs.

It's probably a good idea to get in the habit of backing up your setlist every time you make a change to a patch in that setlist (I personally don't see any need to backup every patch, one by one). There are occasional sync issues when the POD and HD Edit are running. For example, using the expression pedal in this case can cause the POD to crash. I've never had to use my backups because of this, but it's also a simple case of better safe than sorry. And don't forget, backup the backup.

I'm fairly certain I remember hearing or reading somewhere it's 1024.

How does Helix handle loading IRs that are longer than 2048 samples?
-
There might be some effects in Firehawk that might not be present in Helix, at least initially - I continue to hope only initially. So you might want to compare the effects lists, and make sure Helix has you covered. Other than that, the wireless stuff, and what Rewolf mentioned about a backup system, Firehawk would just be a dummy next to Helix. It might be a good idea to keep your Firehawk alongside Helix at least for a little while, even if not used.
-
I don't think the VDI would work, that's for a Variax. One way would be connecting an effects loop send on Helix to Firehawk's guitar input and the 1/4" outputs (left and right) on Firehawk to two effects loop returns on Helix. I'm assuming the effects loops jacks on Helix are TS and not TRS.

Dimensions? Weight? Helix—22.05 x 11.85 x 3.6 inches; 14.6 lbs. Helix Rack—19 x 5.25 x 9.5 inches; 9.3 lbs. Helix Control—17.2 x 9.4 x 2.5 inches; 7.2 lbs.

Experiment with the amp's BIAS control. Adjusting either way from the 50% default might help, depending on the amp. The cab's RES LEVEL control can have an effect also. As with the amp, adjusting either way from the 50% default can help, but it depends on the cab/mic combo.

Is there anything a Helix user has to be aware of or know before loading impulse responses? I've noticed a lot of IRs are longer than 2048 samples. Does Helix automatically truncate them if they're too long, or must they be specific before loading them to Helix? And if they are truncated, and you have an IR that's 60ms at 48KHz (2880 samples), will the IR sound significantly different than the original? Edit: Well I can answer some of my question. I tried one of the free Ownhammer IRs that's 500ms at 48KHz and trimmed it using ReaVerb. The change is not significant. Below ~15ms is when I start to notice a drop of low end.

Will you update this unit with new models and effect at no cost?
duncann replied to josephyballew's topic in Helix
I'm with you on this, but with amps and effects switched. I hope they put way more effort in building the effects list rather amps. Line 6 has said many times that they can't talk about specific future update plans, but I would be really surprised if there aren't any. And being this product is in a different category than HD, I would expect if there are any updates that they are more frequent than HD and free, regardless of content. -
If you're not seeing the new amps just the edit software, make sure to install the latest version, 2.26. If they also don't show up on the device, did you run the license manager to authorize your device? These are the names that should appear in HD Edit and the device --Metal Pack Amp Models-- PV Panama Mahadeva Brit 2204 Octone Insane Big Bottom Variac'ed Plexi Purge Aggro Smash --Vintage Pack Amp Models-- Small Tweed Jazz Rivet Mandarin 80 A30 Fawn Brt A30 Fawn Nrm Black Panel Pete Acoustic --Bass Pack Amp Models-- SVT Brt SVT Nrm G Cougar 800 And the cab models: --Vintage Pack Cab Models-- 1x8 Champ 212 Jazz Rivet --Bass Pack Cab Models-- 810 SV Beast 410 Rhino
