  1. Try adjusting the mode, low pass gives good results. Also try lowering the gain slightly.

Yes. You can just scroll through the amps by having the amp block selected and turning the joystick. Can work with a looper block placed first in the signal or with a dry signal from the DAW. The simple eq has: low gain, mid freq (125Hz - 4kHz), mid gain, high gain, and level. The parametric has: low freq (20Hz - 500Hz), low Q, low gain, mid freq (125Hz - 8Khz), mid Q, mid gain, high freq (500Hz - 18KHz), high Q, high gain, low cut (off or 20Hz - 1Khz), high cut (off or 1kHz - 20Khz). And like Nurn said, you can just add more EQs in the chain for more bands. There is also a 10 band graphic without modifiable bands: 31.25, 62.5, 125, 250, 500, 1k, 2k, 4k, 8k, 16k

Audition: Before scrolling through the effects over the currently selected block, copy the block first. That way when you want to go back to what you had before just paste it. EQ: The simple eq has an adjustable mid frequency and the parametric eq's frequencies are adjustable.
  4. Yep. I couldn't leave it alone and leave myself not knowing. It did the same thing. I've tried about everything I can think of except removing and testing both devices in a completely different environment. The noise does lessen if I physically touch the HD case with my flesh. Starting to wonder if it could be some sort of grounding issue.
  5. Yes. It does in fact work, except for the unwanted noise. So it works, but not well enough to be useful.
  6. Here's the link for the Helix application: http://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=6567
  7. So I had to think about what else I have that has an spdif output on it. The easiest thing to try was my DVR. So I hooked that into Helix's spdif input. Worked just fine, crystal clear, no hissing. Prior to getting Helix, I always used the spdif out on the HD to an audio system to amplify/monitor the sound, and it's still currently set up that way, so the spdif output on my HD works. It's just the combination of HD and Helix seems to have problems. Odd. I might have to just use the 1/4" outs from the HD to a couple of Helix's returns, as that seems to work.
  8. Sample rates are identical. The whole setup works as expected, with the exception of the underlying hiss, which changes depending on the contents of the patch on the HD. Just adding a higher gain amp to an empty patch does it. Adding a noise gate on the HD and changing the threshold to 100% gets rid of it, until you start playing. It's not a quiet hiss either, it can be heard above the desired signal. The entire system, both devices, is isolated from any computer. Using the headphone output on Helix to monitor. The spdif out level on the HD's system menu only allows for an increase. It works well, except for the hiss. Hope someone else has both devices to try this and see what happens. I planned on using the HD to cover some of the effects Helix doesn't have currently, but am finding that some can be covered, sort of. For example, the tron-up from the HD can be done for the most part with Helix using either the sweep echo (most important to set time and feedback to zero) or the mystery filter I think it was. For an auto panner, there was something in the mod list that would work, can't remember what it was. The 3 osc synth looks like it could cover some stuff the HD has too. Overall, the effects I'm finding a big step up from the HD stuff. Really great quality. Haven't gone over the amps I'll tend to use very thoroughly yet, but initially I'd say they are a significant step up from the HD. The problem is, I have to recalibrate my brain because I'm so used to the HD amps that it makes Helix's amps sound and feel strange, at first. It's gonna take time learning the character of Helix, just like it took time to learn the HD's character. Oh yea, the re-amping feature is really great. That's gonna make it a lot easier to tweak tones.
  9. Related to spdif, but with the input. Has anyone tried connecting an HD500(X) to Helix via spdif? I took the send 1 from Helix to guitar in on my HD500X, then the spdif out on the HD500X to Helix's spdif in. Then on Helix, I changed the input on path 1 to guitar, added a send block for send 1, changed the output of this path to the next path, and on the next path set the input to spdif. This all works fine, but is really noisy. The noise is a hiss and can become even worse depending on what the patch on the HD500X looks like (I started with a black patch on the HD500X). I tried adding a noise gate after the spdif input on Helix, but it does absolutely nothing to get rid of the hiss. This makes connecting the two units this way pretty much unusable. Hope this can be fixed because of something I might be doing wrong. Another problem not related to spdif. One of the first things I did was update the firmware. Went smoothly. But after that, not turning off the unit yet, the upper right quadrant of the screen containing the last two blocks were invisible. Rebooting the unit fixed it. At a later time, the right half of the screen became a staticy mess, but when selecting a new model for a block from the list while in this condition, the text displayed over the static. Rebooting fixed it. I have since done a global reset and haven't had this problem reappear. Could this be a software problem, rather than a broken screen or related circuitry?
  10. On the device itself, turn the knob past the last note value on either end. It will switch to milliseconds starting either at 20 or 2000.
  11. I just received an email from SW saying it shipped via fedex. I'm just around the corner from Indiana so should have it in the next couple of days. For anyone wondering I ordered it either Sept 4 or 7, can't remember at the moment, and obviously made it into the first batch.
  12. What about an auto-swell delay, reverse delay, auto-wah, growler, and panner effects? Unless the flexible routing in combination with the synth effects in Helix can cover a growler type effect? I continue to be optimistic that these holes are only temporary.
  13. New idea: reverse functionality of bank/preset up/down Have the option to reverse the functionality of the bank up/down switches when they are used as bank selectors or preset selectors, but keep the labels the same, just reverse the function of them. The same thing as a reverse y-axis in computer games. So if you're on preset 4B, when engaging the bank up (up arrow) it will select either the previous bank or preset 4A, and bank down (down arrow) will select the next bank or preset 4C, depending on the global footswitch setting. I've always had trouble with this on my HD500X. Not once, ever, when switching banks do I not have think about which way the button will navigate a setlist.
  14. For a small, limited free download (just a sample really), but mostly paid for IRs: http://www.ownhammer.com/store/ http://redwirez.com/
  15. Good idea to check the output of the supply. Other things to try: Unplug everything from the device, then try a global reset by holding the left arrow while powering on. If that works you'll then have to do a pedal calibration. If that doesn't work, try holding the down arrow while powering on, which should bring a screen up that says update flash. Then run the monkey program to reflash the device.
  16. I'm guessing you have an HD500X, since there is no 1.32 version for an HD500. So 1.32 isn't so far back from 2.62. It goes from 1.32 to 2.60, 2.61, 2.62. It really shouldn't change your tones, it didn't for me that I could tell. It adds a global EQ and the ability to add the amp packs.
  17. If you use the spdif output, you can set that to output at 96KHz.
  18. Saw this earlier today. It's certainly tempting to at least think about this over Helix, but so far I'm sticking with Helix. There are just too many positives for Helix in a studio setting. Plus, I've heard of people running out of DSP on FX8. AX8 may be similar that way. Needs an expression pedal also. One thing AX8 has going for it is the effect list being more complete for now.
  19. The gift option is kind of buried in your account info page. It's under Hardware & Software -> Purchase History -> Details under the order number. Also after you do that, I don't think the FAQ mentions that you probably have to unregister whatever it is you're selling, Account info page -> Hardware and Software -> Registered Gear -> Remove. Also, I would imagine that gifting a model pack(s) will automatically deauthorize your device, but you might want to check that after gifting in your account info page.
  20. Those stone picks really look interesting for bass, at least on non coated, steel wound strings, since you say they are harder on them than plastic. I'd imagine coated ones would start looking like a peeling sunburn much quicker. For unwound strings, I have to wonder if the stone picks really do leave them unaffected. I use Ultex picks and the high E and B strings in particular, when they break, often look like a twisted, tangled mess; trying to describe their shape mathematically would be a nightmare. Would that condition become worse with a more rigid, unforgiving material?
  21. How do they work for scraping strings and other things like that?
  22. Have you tried a pedal calibration? And if that doesn't work, try a global reset (hold left arrow while powering on), followed by a pedal calibration.
  23. Maybe this bigfoot got this particular Helix from the woman from Washington state that claims she had a sexual relationship with. Either it was a gift or he just couldn't help himself, so he stole it!
  24. Lol. I noticed that this current software contains all kinds of references to POD HD 2.
  25. My rep told me pretty much the same thing. That is, if I don't make it into the first batch. Guess I'll know soon enough. I originally ordered it from MF also, but cancelled for SW, mainly because of the extra year warranty, plus he matched the 15%.
