It's ovation elite, op-pro system. I was eye-balling Marshall's as100d. Good reviews.

What about a dedicated acoustic combo?
-
Thanks for the replys, and you're right. spent the weekend playing my new ovation thru the spider, and I agree. The spider doesn't seem to capture the dynamic range of an acoustic.

Has anyone tried this and if so, how did it sound?

Spider Iv 75- With External Effects?
jbailes replied to euphoria5150's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
I've run outside effects by plugging directly into the input jack with nice results. Of course, I put the amp on clean red, eqs neutral, no effects, and let the outside effects do the work, but it turned out good. -
I've spent all yesterday afternoon trying. The closest I got was with the phaser, but still off by a long shot. Just gotta look elsewhere I guess.

Wondering if anyone has taken a stab at the lead sound on Frampton comes alive. I know PF used an actual leslie to get that sound, but I'm wondering if the univibe or flanger on the spider IV might get close. Billy Duffy had a similar sound on the Cult's sonic temple cd.

I agree with the last 2 posts. Squire has made improvements in the QC dept in the last few years. And epiphone les paul or dot guitar (epi's version of a 335) might be something to consider as well. I'm not familiar with the 15 watter, But I'm sure that if you crank a bit and go to some of the more classic amp settings, you can get some decent, warm blues settings.

Same as the old boss

I don't know if you can disable the amps, But if you go to manual mode, set the spider on clean red (a clean marshall sound), you can turn all effects off and should be able to use the mxr pedal. If it still sounds bad, you may want to play with the eqs from both the MXR and the amp, or you can try different amp modelings from the spider. Just make sure all distortion is off the amp model you're using because the full bore probably has the most brutal distortion on a pedal that I have heard, and may not play well with others (pardon the pun).

well, it makes no matter. Ej's tones is impeccable anyway
-
Yeah, I usually go middle with the tone wide open. I thought EJ used a 335 to record Cliffs

Master Volume Or Channel Volume?
jbailes replied to senanimach9's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
The abrupt switching is something that's hard to deal with in a live setting. I tend to use a certain amount of delay in various presets, and it sure would be nice to hear that "residual hangover" when switching presets. -
I'm using a Mexican fender HSS w/ rosewood fretboard. That and an epiphone tribute les paul are the only guitars I have that are worth anything.
-
I know it's ridiculous to ask a question like this, but has anyone found reasonable success at copying EJ's tones out of their spider? I've found the classic chorus preset in customtone to emulate a nice EJ clean sound, although the delay may need to be warmed up a bit. As for his rhythm sound, I tried to use the crunch red to emulate the sound of a Dumble, and having fuzz on standby for a lead tone. And then high gain red with a little bit of fuzz for a standard vintage sounding lead. For both rhythm and lead, I use medium hall and tube echo with the echo's eq down to make it smoother.

Presets For Lynch Mob Or Zakk Wylde.black Label?
jbailes replied to jbailes's topic in Tone Discussion
Thanks Shadoze, One thing I did was put the amp in manual mode, clean red, all eqs at 5, no effects, and plugged my Zoom G2G pedal (the GL mr scary pedal) in front of the amp. It really sounded great. I dare say, it made all the factory presets on the spider IV sound kinda sterile! -
How Authentic Can You Create A Song Or Artist Sound?
jbailes replied to jbailes's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
I'm very much the same way. It's important to have a tone that inspires. Lately, I've been experimenting with the amp to find various blues/vintage rock tones. -

Spider Iv Vs The Amps It's Modeled After
jbailes replied to jbailes's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
It's interesting how the clean red is supposed to be modeled after the clean tone on a Marshall, but seems to have the warmth of a 100w fender twin. Very smooth full tone. -
For those of you who have actually owned any of the amps that are modeled in the spider IV (mesa dual rec, marshall plexi, etc), how close does the spider IV come to the real thing? The tube amps I've owned are a fender twin, a bassman and a 5150 II, but of course, the 5150 is not on this amp.
-
ok...now that the cheap shot is out of the way...I certainly agree that the clean red channel is the best sounding of the clean tones. I'll try your suggestion. I don't know of anyone who has a JC120, so my only exposure to them is youtube vids.
-
Anyone have a suggestion on how to emulate a clean slightly chorused sound like the Roland JC-120? I've tried youtube to find a signature tone, but it's pretty difficult.

Has Anyone Upgraded From One Spider Iv Amp To Another?
jbailes replied to jbailes's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
I hear ya. Back in the day I had 2 Fender twins and a tc electronic chorus Y-corded to both of them. As far as clean tone is concerned, I don't think I could ever beat that.
