  1. The whole Mac versus Windows thing certainly does generate strong opinions. Apple users pay a steep premium for the hardware, that's for sure. On the other hand, they benefit from the tight integration of the hardware and software. Swings and roundabouts. I don't have a decent Windows laptop at the moment, so I figured why not get the MacBook Air since I know it works with the Stadium XL right now out of the box. That seems to be a primary driver for Apple users i.e. it just works. No muss, no fuss. I was impressed with my colleague's MacBook that I used yeterday to do the firmware udpate on my Stadium XL. ALso, I really don't like Microsoft forcing Windows 11 users to create a Microsoft online account upon installation to log into their machines with. I know how to get around it, of course, but it's the principle that bothers me.
  2. If you are on Windows, please look in Device Manager and let us know if you see 'Helix Stadium Bulk Transfer' listed under 'Other Devices.' You may see a blue question mark inside a white circle associated with it. That means the Line 6's Windows USB driver didn't load which will explain the Stadium app crashing every time you attempt to connect to the Stadium XL. I have a support ticket submitted for this. For me personally, it is a moot issue at this point since I decided to order a MacBook Air to work around the issue.
  3. @ReverendLoveI found that firmware update over Wi-Fi or wired ethernet is not currently an option. I don't understand why Line 6 couldn't have made the firmware file available for direct download and allow installation from a locally-attached USB stick. The Windows USB driver is, in fact, packaged with Line 6 Central but it's the same driver included with the Stadium app download so that won't help. I already tried that. Since Showcase is a key feature for me, I will need a working USB driver for frequent audio file transfer to the Stadium XL via the Stadium App in addition to periodic transfer of firmware update files. For that reason, I decided to jump in with both feet and order a 13-inch MacBook Air with 16GB Memory and 512GB storage. There's a 17% discount on Amazon (US) right now so the timing was right. I have always been a Windows guy and this will be my first Mac so I'll have a learning curve. I've often heard it said that Macs are better for audio recording. I know that the Mac version of the Stadium App works. I already validated that by borrowing my colleague's MacBook Air to update my firmware to 1.2. Firmware 1.3 will supposedly be available after 24 January when the NAMM show ends.
  4. I experienced the same. As a Windows user, I had to borrow a colleague's MacBook to load firmware 1.2 since the Helix Stadium Bulk Transfer driver incliuded with Stadium App 1.2 for Windows is broken and crashes every time on attempting to connect to Stadium XL. Are you a Mac or Windows user? If Windows, did you have any problems doing a USB-C cabled update of your firmware?
  5. Greetings ReverendLove, Yes, I submitted Ticket ID: 496452 to Line 6 Support immediately after posting to this forum. It appears you and I had identical experiences with the Helix Stadium Bulk Transfer USB driver not loading on Windows causing the Stadium App to crash repeatedly making firmware update over USB-C cable on Windows impossible to accomplish. This issue is surely a common one for Windows users. I expect there are a lot of Mac users with Stadium XL's who obviously won't notice this issue. Hopefully you know someone with a MacBook who will let you use his/hermachine to load the Stadium App and do the firmware update of your Stadium XL. That's what I did this morning with no problems at all. I needed to be sure the Stadium XL was not the source of the problem and the problem-free update process I experienced using a Mac for the firmware update proved my Stadium XL was not faulty. I saw a video uploaded on YouTube yesterday that suggested Stadium XL Firmware Version 1.3 will be released after NAMM 2026 which is quite soon. Hopefully the developers will have time to package a working version of the bulk transfer driver with Stadium App. I don't want to keep using my colleague's MacBook to perform firmware updates, lol. Cheers!
  6. Symptom: On Windows 11 Pro version 22H5, the Stadium App v1.2.0.15 application window crashes every time upon attempting a USB-C cabled connection to a Helix Stadium Xl at Firmware Version 1.1.0 Build:1274 for the purpose of doing a Stadum XL firmware update. This is caused by the ‘Helix Stadium Bulk Transfer’ driver packaged with the Windows version of Stadium 1.2 App not loading. On Windows, navigate to Device Manager and see the ‘Helix Stadium Bulk Transfer’ driver listed as ‘Other device.’ This is not normal. Look at the properties of this device and you will see the driver is not present and has not loaded. This is why Stadium App 1.2 on Windows crashes every time on attempting to connect to a Stadium XL over USB-C to do a fimware update. When you plug the Stadium XL into Windows via USB-C, this Bulk Transfer device appears as ‘Other Device’ but its driver does not load. When the USB-C cable is unplugged this ‘Other Device’ disappears from the Device Manager list. This issue was raised 4 December on a Line 6 forum but no resolution was documented on that post and its replies or subsequently that I can find. It has not been addressed by Line 6 yet in Stadium App 1.2 for Windows. Solution: The Line 6 developers need to fix the USB Bulk Transfer driver they are distributing with the Windows version of Stadium App 1.2. Workaround: The Stadium 1.2 app and drivers provided for Mac OS work. If you are a Windows user, you will need to ‘phone a friend’ who has a MacBook, load Stadium App 1.2 on it, make your USB-C connection between MacBook and StadiumXL, launch the Stadium App, and connect to Stadium XL so the current firmware version can be detected. If the Stadium XL is not already at 1.2 firmware version, you will be prompted to download and transfer firmware 1.2 to the Stadium XL. Background: After unboxing my Stadium XL on Monday morning, I spent hours as a Windows user trying to get Stadium App 1.2 to connect with my Stadium XL without crashing. On Tuesday, I brought my Stadium XL to work and borrowed a colleague’s MacBook Air to do the 1.2 firmware update. All went smoothly. As a hobbyist, I bought the Stadium XL specifically for the Showcase feature which is what distinguishes the Stadium XL from all other modelers at present. I was going to go for the Fender ToneMaster Pro until I randomly came across a YouTube video discussing Showcase. I was keen to immediately update to firmware 1.2 to start experimenting with Showcase. I have a 4Cast MVP stand-alone MIDI-controlled video playback ‘jukebox’ coming on Saturday which I plan to USB-C connect with the Stadium XL and recive MIDI note commands from Showcase flags to start the music video that goes with the song I am currently murdering with my guitar ‘playing.’ I will be using an AI stem extractor to get stems from the music video’s audio track to include in Showcase so the audio and video will remain sync. Obviously, Windows users need the Line 6 developers to fix the Windows distribution of the Stadium App going forward so it includes a USB Bulk Transfer driver that Windows can load. I can live with firmware that is ‘buggy’ on the features front because Line 6 has a proven track record of solid support for the original Helix over the last 10 years but when the USB bulk transfer driver needed for Windows users to apply firmware updates over time to fix these bugs is itself broken out-of-the-gate, that is a significant problem.
