    BPM

when stomping on the BPM button, doesn't the bottom row change to show you the bpm rate? I could be mistaken...don't have my Helix in front of me at the moment.
  2. I would just copy my presets to another setlist or set of open presets and resave with the different output setting.
  3. I do this just in that fashion. I run a preset per song, and use Snapshots to switch parts of the songs. For songs that have multiple amp sounds (clean/dirty), for consistency, I keep Path A as the clean amp, and Path B as the dirty amp.
  4. believe you are correct on all of them, the only one I cannot answer is the 4th one. #1 Performance view shows you the button layout for presets/snaps/stomps #2 you can set the view to a combination of several things. I use 4 presets/4 snaps as I don't require more than 4 snaps per song. But there are stomp and other options in that menu. I have a few songs with only one snapshot, but then have a stomp switch (press mode to go into snap mode) that is a momentary switch to turn on my lead sound for some quick runs, rather than doing a click on, click off for the 1.5 second lead fill. When that song is done, I press mode to go back to my 4/4 screen mode. #3 Yes, if you need 8 snaps or 4 snaps/4 stomps or something....and you want to use the up/down buttons to change presets you can do that. That is how I had it setup for awhile as I don't really have a need to jump banks when I was running the 8 snap mode. In the 4/4 mode that I use now, I use the up/down for bank switching as that jumps my setlist 4 songs at a time, which works for us as we call audibles from an 'extra song' list. We play about 40 songs a night off a list of about 85....pending on the crowds. #4 - not sure on this one, sorry.
  5. So, I've long tried and failed to get the right effect sound for the slight portion of the riff that is used in the No Doubt song "Just A Girl". I can't quite pick out what type of effect it is for sure (my first problem) but even trying various effects...I cannot get something close to it. I know I can program a momentary switch to turn it on and off with the riff as I play, that part I have down easy.... Any help on this effect?
  6. I'm not sure I quite understand where the issue is coming in.... 1 - synths off (via snapshot controls), gain on (via snapshot controls) 2 - synth 1 on (via snapshot control, synth 2 remains off), gain off (via snapshot control) 3 - synth 2 on (via snapshot control, synth 1 remains off), gain off (via snapshot control) You cannot control the same effect block using two control, that I've found so far. I do the same thing where I need I need multiple instances of an effect on/off, but I end up just duplicating the block (copy/paste) and assigning each version of the block to a different bypass controller.
  7. I agree with all above comments.... I have a powered EV speaker that is about 85% accurate to our FOH so I can usually get pretty close to the tones I need/want when setting them up. However, as far as headphones, they are ok to use.......ALTHOUGH, you need to consider the difference between your speaker setup and the headphones sound. They are right that headphones will usually be more bassy, tighter feeling (like IEM's). If you can avoid tweaking presets for them to sound good in headphones, but listen to the change in sound when making changes, then you are well on your way to saving time from tweakers-hell. For example, if you know on a preset on your speaker/FOH setup you need less bass or more mids....and your only tweaking time is late at night when the wife and 2 year old daughter are asleep (yes this is my situation, lol) then headphones are great. As long I adjust the preset with my eyes and not my ears, I'll be fine. If I adjust using my ears, I may end up with Bass 0 and mids 10 on every amp/eq setting to compensate. I use headphones only for learning songs, and helping with volume/lead boost levels. or hearing audible changes to presets....any sort of tone shaping is done at a 'real' volume through 'real' speakers.
  8. I've struggled to use this model in the Helix as well, but used to love it in my GT-8 instead of the standard 808 pedal. I'm curious as well, your findings increase that curiousity
  9. For my issues I had, nothing could 'fix' the issue. Even restarting the Helix. And it wouldn't affect preset. When I was enduring this, I had 3 banks of 8 presets, basically 6 rhythms, 6 leads and then copies of them grouped in to genre banks for me. It would affect my Clean preset in Bank 1, but not Banks 2 or 3. It would affect the clean in Bank 1, but not the other 7 presets in Bank 1. I could turn it off and back on and sometimes it would resolve the issue, other times it would not. Sometimes it would resolve it for bank 1 preset 1, but then affect 3 other presets that were fine before. There really was not reasoning to why it was happening or not happening. No programming/resetting could resolve the issue that I could see. My only advice would be to start the support ticket process and explain what is happening, you can even have them reference the tickets under my name as it sounds like the same issues I was having.
  10. I had this issue with my LT. It drove me nuts....it would work fine at practice/home, then get to the gig and only read 0-94 or 95 or 93 or 97. I inverted the heel/toe for auto engage (I mainly used it for wah), which helped, but still did not allow me full use of pitch/whammy. Ultimately I ended up creating a support ticket, I sent it in to be repaired, got it back, it worked for about 2 days until it came back. They immediately replied to send it in and they will replace it. Havent had an issue with the new one....so far.
  11. Yeah I saw the blocks being engaged when I watched it later. I played around a bit but couldnt quite get it in time for the gig. I liked the Vibe effect, but just couldnt get the rate fast enough even maxed out. I'll have to learn about the OSC Generator a bit.
  12. I can't watch the video while at work, but do you detail the settings for the raygun effect? I have a preset I use, but haven't found a good raygun affect to use?
  13. I had some issues at an outdoor gig with the expression pedal. it didn't happen until about mid 2nd set when it was continuously in the sun for awhile. Seemed to confuse the optical sensor for the pedal as the preset I was on had the wah auto-engage. and mid song it started to activate/deactivate the wah randomly.
  14. What Duned says works for me. I find Jason's preset approaches great, but the sounds a bit too dark for my taste. I'll usually do a stereo cab, and either go with the 160/4032(?) mic, and then mix it with either the 57 or one of two 409/421 depending on the amp's response in the high end. One of those 3 will usually have the right balance of high end bite, but not be shrill or icy. A few times I'll go to the 120(?) ribbon mic, but again it all depends on the bass. I also find that I run a pre-EQ before the amp. Starting around 120hz, and adjusting until the muddy low end is gone, then at the end of my chain with a PEQ I add in a narrow band of lowend to give my sound some low end punch for palm mutes.
  15. I'm well versed, and have experience with IR's, I just wanted to maybe make sure I was on the right path of narrowing down what I'm looking for in my tone. I can't seem to dial in that 'resonance' with an EQ, or a different cab/mic combination (I've tried/use different cab/mic combinations across my presets I use about 6 or 7 stock preset sounds then tailor them to the songs needs and each one uses a more natural cab sim for that amp being used). Wanted to make sure that what I'm looking for would be that difference between cab vs. IR and I'm not missing something otherwise.
  16. So couple details up front....my Helix will be back from repair (replacement for a 2nd return) soon and I can't wait to get back to the better amp modeling than my backup unit the Boss GT100. However, since going back to the GT, and applying what I've learned setting up presets (final PEQ with low/hi cuts to mimic speaker/cab output better, etc) my GT presets have never sounded better. Minus the COSM modeleling vs. Helix Amp modeling. With that said, there is a quality to my GT presets that I just can't seem to get right with Helix that I dig with the GT. I'm thinking its in the cab sim area. Touch of background, I came from the Axe FX Ultra days, grew up using Boss units, and decided to move to Helix and love the interface, and everything about it. I mention that cause I've spent time auditioning IR's, and making stock cabs work and playing through a real power amp/cab scenario and all have their pros/cons. The area I find with the GT that I dig is there is a resonance to the sounds. Not just a bassy/dark sound, but when I palm mute or play something in the lower registers, I can almost 'feel' the cab volume in the way it resonates or has a lifelike feel to it. I have not been able to duplicate that very easily on the Helix, and I feel like that is the final variable for me to really dial in some great sounds I'll be happy with. I typically use a stereo stock cab, and combine cabs/mics to give me some low/high end response that I like for that particular sound I'm after, then shape at the end of the chain with PEQ and such if I need a specific flavor of bite/chunk. Is what I'm after something I'd get from IR's more so than the stock cabs? I've heard great sounds coming from both, and I"ve used both, but just haven't found the right setup to achieve that 'feel' that I mentioned above. In the GT I do use a 'custom' cab setting. I used to use the 10" 8x12 setting as it gave me the low end chunk and the 10" seemed to have more dynamic punch to the sound when playing vs. speakers of other sizes. However, EQ'ing the bass right was really difficult on their GUI. So I played with it and the 13" speaker setting seemed to be punch and have more low end, and with a quick edit of my PEQ settings, was able to get to my happy place. Just looking for some way to get that same response feel out of the Helix. Any suggestions?
  17. Maybe I'm missing something as far as details go, but I program a song/preset, and use snapshots to make changes between verse/chorus'lead etc so the most snapshots I' have in a song is 4, but I'm able to assign a custom color to the bottom row (I run in 4 preset/4snap mode) and all the colors are 'on', but the selected snapshot is 'bright'
  18. I'll try that, I think I was skipping the assigning to a footswitch....
  19. ok, so 1) insert looper at beginning of chain 2) assign looper bypass to footswitch? 3) to into Stomp mode to turn on looper? I've managed to get it to work before, but its always been trial and error and for some reason not that obvious to me.
  20. I add it to the beginning of my chain for editing purposes.....how do I get the looper controls to show on my LT? For some reason, this process eludes my thinking.....
  21. Yeah I'm not that savvy...lol. Not saying the current workflow isn't bad, especially if there was a way to open a 2nd preset or 2nd HX Edit program to be able to copy/paste between without having to constantly resave before grabbing the next block. I guess I'll just have to keep a sheet of notes for which presets have which amp blocks in them
  22. Ok, with getting my Helix back from repair, and finally having a laptop that can run HX Edit to make editing easier…I’ve decided to go back to running Song per preset w/snapshots for changes, but still keep my Stock Sound presets as well for jamming purposes. However, getting into setting up snapshots has got me thinking about something I don’t recall being mentioned or brought up, and didn’t know if it’s a non-viable option or something that hasn’t been mentioned (maybe I’m missing something, entirely possible). With setting up 67 presets, and 154 total snapshots (it still seems to be growing in size) it makes me long for a Global Amps Slot concept or being able to save Effect/Amp blocks settings specifically without having to copy/paste from another preset. Being able to recall a previously saved setup for a block would be so much more efficient than jumping between 2 presets and having to constantly save one of them (unless I’m missing something process wise). I basically use 7-8 stock sounds, and then its copy/paste, and edit any effects or unique things to that song. A majority of our setlist is geared around 80’s/90’s rock so I’d say 75% of my presets are using the same 2 or 3 sounds. This can be tricky when trying to make a change/improvement to my tone that I discover thanks to videos like Jason Sadites ones or several others I have seen. Is there anything that prevents them from allowing individual blocks from being saved or recalled?
  23. Ok, excuse my ignorance, I just dont wanna purchase 3 apps and waste time messing around with it. So when you say copy paste, this is done from web browser > chord/lyric app? The Open Song App, lets me browse directly to Ultimate-guitar.com, and choose a 'chord' version of the song, click a link and it imports it right into its own app. Its a neat feature, its just not a very pretty app to work with or look at.
  24. a lot of these look really great.....and completely functional for what I want. How are they for loading chord/lyrics? THe one lets me import right from Ultimate-guitar....though I dont care for that interface, but it is useable. the other 'non-free' ones look great...but dont mention much for how you get your songs imported....or if I have to create them from scratch.
  25. So, with my Helix on its way to L6 and hopefully getting a clean bill of health and on its way back soon (please dont make me play this Boss unit much longer guys).... I've decided to start working on my acoustic solo shows once again. I know there are some decent apps out there, but with little discretionary income, i've always been content to using a binder full of over stuffed lyrics/chords for more songs than I'll ever really need to know. What apps are you using for Android that are decent and relatively easy to use, and dont require an internet connection to use live (obviously to setup, download they do). Thanks in advance...looking forward to enjoying acoustic stuff again....
