  1. Was wondering what settings the PA is supposed to use? It seems like the mix in my ears on stage is completely different than what is heard through the PA. Through "in-ears" my mix is decent albeit much more wet than I hear when going through the PHONES output of the Helix. But, through the PA there is hardly any ambience. It sounds very dry. It's hugely frustrating because I spend a lot of time at home getting these patches set up just to have to change them when I arrive to play. Any tips or suggestions are most appreciated! To summarize my setup, I have two XLR going into my sound guys cave. I haven't had time to go look at all his settings on the board. Somehow he gets a mix to my 'in-ears' and another mix to the house speakers. I did verify that he is not using 48V phantom on the channels. He says he adds a hi/lo pass to the channels but no other effects. Again, the symptoms are -very WET 'in-ear' mix -very DRY house mix Thanks guys!
  2. same thing...using Mac El Capitan with the latest release which supposedly fixed some USB audio issues. But not for me :(
  3. I agree there are some GLOBAL type things that LIne6 could add that would make our lives easier. -let us program the multi in multi out to mean what WE want. For instance, I like to play sound clips from my computer via USB 3,4 and don't want to change the input setting every preset change. -give us a global setting to allow preamp only/ amp only allowing us to try different presets without having to turn off cabs etc for each. This could also be done by giving a global amp/cab/IR setting which would bypass each preset model.
  4. one question I had, can I send two outputs from my Variax into the Helix? For instance, magnetics processed with clean effect and say a Sitar processed by the second path of the Helix. I think I saw a video somewhere with POD doing similar thing. I am trying to do it right now but not sure where I would start.
  5. Hey guys...so I now have MY dream rig (at least for now). Helix, Variax JTV and decent set of studio monitors. I would like some suggestions for cool ideas to integrate Helix with Variax. question, -when using Variax with Helix: a)should I be using both cables (VDI and 1/4")? and sending both inputs simultaneously to my effects loop? b)should I be able to VDI to my Helix and my Helix to my computer to recognize the Variax (I think that works for POD) Please shoot me your Helix/Variax integration ideas! Thanks!
  6. guessing you are trying to install the wrong software. Try installing Line6 Monkey and that should allow you to install workbench HD
  7. Or do I have to replace the Variax battery every twelve hours or so? I'm considering adding Variax to complement my Helix.
  8. Now that I think about it...I'm not even sure how I'm supposed to set it when I'm using my headphones. Can anyone elaborate on this as well?
  9. I think I'm going to try to just model the preamp and send the output of the Helix into the FX return on the amp. I think this will give me the majority of the sound I practice with during the week. Now, I'm wondering if what I'm doing at home is appropriate. I have the Helix sending over L/R XLR out to my power amp which powers a left and right speaker. This is pretty old equipment so I can't say for sure if it is FRFR or not. I've tried using the pre-amp only blocks and it sounds pretty good...maybe better than the amp/cab. I really need to understand when to use preamp/amp+cab/amp-cab. Any good rules out there?
  10. it may be important to note that the cables going from the Jackson heads to the cabinet are 1/4" speaker cable. As I'm looking through the manual, I think the setting I would have needed was for the XLR outputs.
  11. I could be wrong but since the mic cables are in a different room and they are the ones going to the house I don't see how I could tap into that. If the Helix could power the cab then atleast I could use the Helix amp. More on the set up: -pedal board is near the two Jackson heads. There are cables that go from the heads to another room where a cab is powered and miked and then sent to the PA system. I guess I would like to find out where the best place for me to patch in would be. Ideally, I would patch into the house and bypass everything but that's not going to be possible.
  12. sorry to hear that. Line6 and my dealer made good on getting it straightened out. Have you submitted a ticket and/or talked to tech support?
  13. Here is the typical setup. I'll ask for ideas on how to improve it using Helix. Stereo Pedal board sent to two Jackson amps then to cabs in back room with mic sent to to board. I won't be able to go straight to the house.
  14. My unit doesn't seem to be EQing when monitoring a song sent in over Usb 1/2. I realize global eq is not meant to affect output to USB while recording etc but this seems to be incorrect. Can someone else let me know if they experience the same issue? I am playing a song with my iPad to the helix over USB which is sent out to my PA via xlr l/r. Again, the global EQ does not affect the sound to my PA.
  15. I'm not sure where to start with this. I took my helix to church to play and was a bit disappointed when I got there. They traditionally use pedalboards into a couple of Jackson amps into a booth where the cabinet is mic'd. I tried taking the cables from the back of the Jackson amps and plugging them into my helix. We couldn't hear hardly any sound. I finally had to resort to running my helix into the front of the Jackson amps which completely fuddled my sound. I'm guessing I just and not understanding something here. Any help is appreciated!
  16. does anyone have a heads up on features/bug fixes in next release and/or ETA?
  17. Look at the TwoTonesA-B and TwoTones Blend presets for example on how you might do this. They are in the TEMPLATES bank.
  18. I am just wanting to play a backing track while playing guitar. The USB music is via iTunes. I will say the software update seems to have helped. I can actually hear real music. I think my head is getting in the way now.
  19. USB is completely unusable with this replacement unit. I hear a little bit of audio sometimes but then it just fades into fuzz and then nothing. This is going to be a problem for me. My previous (pre-replacement unit) did not have this issue. I am trying another firmware update but I'm not too hopeful seeing that it is already the latest version. Any ideas for workarounds? Or is this another defective unit?
  20. Update after replacement unit: not all items have been tested but here is an update. -Tuner; I can now hear the output while I tune, however, the volume pedal is not active. What I was hoping for is that I could control the output volume via the pedal like I could on my analog rig. -I did figure out how to change the name/color for scribble after the fact. You have to do it via the 'Command Center' and joystick to the footswitch in question. Not very intuitive but hey, it's there.
  21. I am sending to FRFR and power amp via the XLR outputs. Maybe that could be the difference?
  22. All in all I love it. Few issues which I'm not happy about: -popping like crazy when I run USB to Helix. Not all the time...I just reset the USB connection when it starts happening. -Tuner; I want to hear my guitar when I tune! But...the setting for tuner output is staying muted even though I have it routed to MULTI -I have a scribble strip that I would like to customize the name/color but can't since it is assigned already to two parameters on my amp (mid/chl vol). If I try it the way the manual describes, I end up adding a on/off to my AMP which is NOT good. How do you customize a scribble strip (name/color) that is already assigned? I think software may have missed something. -unit has locked up on me a few times; had to restart it -I already returned one unit as defective due to bad scribble strip. I will say Line6 treated me right and I had no downtime.
  23. I have to hand it to Line6...they did pull through for me and shipped me a new unit in advance! Also, the dealer was kind enough to refund my shipping. Cudo's to "Chuck Levins" for awesome customer service! Now...let's see how this next unit performs :)
  24. maybe not since it didn't happen right away. I has to be powered on for a few minutes before it will start acting that way.
  25. it sounds good for the most part...I've had to restart it several times due to lock up; not sure if this is my unit or a software glitch
