Hi, As I mentioned in the post above, there may be large amounts of network traffic all hitting the download servers, which is common after a firmware update. The whole world and his brother try to download immediately the firmware goes live. Maybe a “time out” issue caused the failure. Anyhow, I do know that it has been reported elsewhere that performing a local install while disconnected from the internet works just fine, but requires a little more user involvement. To save me from lots of typing I will point you to the Line 6 guide of “how to”. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, O.K. Let’s try this - disconnect the USB from your computer and the HXFX for about a minute, the reconnect them. Power up the HXFX while holding down the Right Arrow Key >. This should put you into Fail Safe Update mode. Next make sure that HX Edit is not running as it will interfere with this rescue attempt. Now launch the Line 6 Updater Utility v.1.28 and if it can see your HXFX as a USB device, you can use this to re flash the latest firmware. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, Yes, AFAIK, this is only the new Line 6 Central that requires a minimum of Big Sur to run. It confused me that the download page does actually specify Mac OSX then continues to list other incremental OS changes up to the very latest v.14 Sonoma. I also commented about this over on TGP where a guy replied and said it was may be time to upgrade, as Catalina was 4 years old. Yeah, right, I have been using Macs right back to the original Plus where the System software was on a single sided floppy disk. I spent many years as an early adopter of Apple stuff, but I later learned that some changes to the Mac OS could bring down the whole house of cards and things just no longer worked as they should. I took to the idea of if it isn’t broken you don’t need to fix it. I could end up with a whole bunch of audio plug-ins that no longer work. I know because it has happened before. Anyhow, I don’t intend to move on to Big Sur, Monterey, Ventura or whatever simply to use a Utility app. It’s not really that important to me, I can keep on as I am.

Hi, From the Release Notes (linked in my earlier post above). My Helix/HX is at version X.XX. Can I go straight to 3.70? Yes, but note that if you're starting from 2.80 or lower, the update may appear to happen three times and will take notably longer than 30 minutes. This is normal. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, I just spotted that you mentioned: “HX Stomp XL frimware update suspended HX Stomp did not reset instructing it to enter into DFL Mode” IIRC, I haven’t seen that reported since version 2.8 - I also think that what you meant to type was “DFU Mode”. That mode is Device Firmware Upgrade mode which should allow devices to be restored from any state, using the minimum system in the Boot ROM. Maybe try putting it into update mode by restarting your Stomp XL while holding down Page > to force it to continue. I suggest that you also make sure you are logged into your Line 6 account. Possible there is a large amount of network traffic with people downloading simultaneously and the carrier has dropped. Personally, I intend to wait a while before updating this one. Hope this helps/makes sense.

UPDATE: It appears this is not a glitch - I raised a ticket asking about this. "Hi, LIne 6 Central doesn't launch on OS Catalina. Instead, an Error Message is displayed that states it requires macOS 11.0 or above to run. This is not mentioned on the software download page, which actually does specify:- Compatible OS: Mac OS X, macOS Big Sur, macOS Monterey, macOS Ventura, macOS Sonoma. Please advise." Here is the reply I got from the Support Ticket: "Hi, Catalina is not supported you can see this in the download section : macOS Big Sur, macOS Monterey, macOS Ventura, macOS Sonoma. MacOSX does not mean "all other OS", otherwise they would be mentioned there Best regards Technical Support Line 6 /Ampeg/Yamaha Guitar Group Support Europe" Uh? O.K. it appears that when it states - Compatible OS: Mac OS X, macOS Big Sur etc., it doesn't actually mean Mac OSX. OS Catalina 10.15 was the last iteration of the version 10 operating system, known as Mac OSX in 2019, and was superseded by macOS Big Sur v.11.0 in November 2020. That clears that up then! It must be me? I heard it on the X.

Oops! Mac users take note. There's a glitch - even though the download page specifies Mac OSX - it will not launch on Mac OS Catalina version 10.15.7. The application requires OS 11.0 or later. Compatible OS: Mac OS X, macOS Big Sur, macOS Monterey, macOS Ventura, macOS Sonoma.

Hi, Yeah, I understand what you’re saying about degradation, or the fade on the repeats. This was actually mentioned in one of the “Model Citizens” blogs with Jeff Schroeder discussing ambient, “Frippertronics”. It seems he picked up a trick from Bill Vencil’s “Chords of Orion” on YouTube. Bill’s example shows that by reducing the Helix Looper’s overdub level by -1.70db it lessens the build up of repeats into a fade. Throw in a Retro Reel and see where it goes. Exactly - I think they must mean that if Phantom Power in the Helix is turned, on and you connect to FOH via XLR and that also has Phantom Power engaged.

Hi, Most likely user error as the Tuner is expecting the F/S to be held down for access, whereas the Tuner generally requires a few taps to be able to figure out the tempo. It would be very odd if it could detected Tempo from a single hit. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, There appears to be very little specific info about this subject, other than this statement from the Helix Owner’s Manual. ”IMPORTANT! Never connect the Helix device’s XLR outputs to a device whose XLR inputs have 48V phantom power enabled!” Clear as mud! Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, Ah, yes, the “HOLD” button - great fun in the early days of digital jiggery pokery. My old Ibanez DM 1000 provided almost one second of sampling via the hold button facility. I used to grab 900ms of audio and have it playback into a channel with a triggered noise gate on the input to produce odd stuttering rhythmic effects. It was a few years later when I got the AKAI S950 dedicated sampler for even more craziness. Anyhow - re the Helix. My guess is they didn’t add a hold button to the delays, simply because you could achieve a similar result by adding a 1 Switch Looper that can provide up to 60 seconds mono, or 30 seconds stereo, of Sample and Hold to mess around with. Also the Shuffling Looper puts it into the realms of silliness that I did with chopping up the playback from the old Ibanez. Hope this helps/makes sense.

And just at time that my JTV59 decided to go flakey - the toggle switch is not changing the options for the models, but works just fine with the mag pups. Oh, hum - another museum piece? I was using my 2005 Variax 600 only yesterday - still going strong. Also, I might be the only person who bought one of those short lived Variax Acoustic 300 Nylon models from 2007 (still O.K.). R.I.P. Variax.

Well, as I said - not exactly new. The image I posted was from the Line 6 promo for Limited Edition colours launched at NAMM 2019. Granted, the Platinum version is a new release listed on the current Line 6 product page. The idea of adding “skins” to the hardware has been around for a long time, IIRC, the initial idea was produced by a certain Mr. Chad Boston who runs the Helix Family FarceBuk group. Thousands of unique variations out there. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, This is perfectly straight forward, but you are essentially looking down the wrong end of the telescope. First off, trying to listen to your backing track and guitar from the HX Stomp XL out of your MBP is not going to sound great, no matter how much Apple try to hype their computer speakers. Ideally you need to invest in some reasonable monitor speakers, and/or headphones. These don’t need to be too expensive, but will give you a better idea of what you are actually hearing and the tones you are creating with your Stomp. You didn’t say if you already have either of these monitoring options available to you? Anyhow, if you power up your HX Stomp XL, and connect a pair of headphones to the 1/4 socket on the rear panel. Then hook up to your MBP via USB, you should have the option to playback the audio from your Mac using the Stomp as the Audio Interface for you computer. See the link below for how to select your output device. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mac-help/mchl9777ee30/mac#:~:text=On your Mac%2C use Sound,click Sound in the sidebar. Once you have this set up, any audio should play back from your Mac and you can listen to on your phones plugged into the Stomp. This means that you should be able to listen to any tracks in your Music app, love steamed from YouTube or whatever, whilst also being able to hear your fully processed guitar audio from the Stomp with zero latency. Jammin’. If you feel really adventurous, you could buy a pair of self powered studio monitors, and use these connected to the 1/4” Output on the rear panel of your HX. There are many reasonably inexpensive 5” powered speaker available, the choice is yours. This would be a big advantage if you intend to try your hand at recording with your free copy of GarageBand. Paste this into Google “inexpensive 5 inch powered studio monitors” and see what comes up. I specifically say 5 inch, because anything less is not much bigger than the speakers in your headphones. If you really go for it then 8” studio monitors will help the bass end, but at a cost. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, Interesting first post - the problem is there are no Line staff here and only very occasionally do they visit these forums - See the “sticky comment” in the black banner stripe at the top of this page entitled “Welcome to the Line 6 forums”. Even if there was any Line 6 folks here they wouldn't say. If you really want to know, (Line 6 never reveal what is in the pipeline) even though many do try to tease little bits of info from them. Then again even he doesn't really know until the package is ready to roll, or, if the plane is on the runway, and all the other waffle that has been spouted over the years about when the latest firmware will land.
