Why can I only access 8-10 stomp boxes within a preset?
SaschaFranck replied to kaffekask's topic in Helix
Not really. All of them allow for one simple thing: Switching loops with whatever pleases you inside. And those things pleasing you can be switched on/off. Snapshots can't do that. -

Nah, snapshots are very different from what you can do with a loopswitcher. With the latter I can "pre-define" what's happening in each loop once it's engaged without having to make it a permanent decision. That's impossible with snapshots. It does work with parallel paths, but I was using them up all the time as well. I really wish there was some sort of loop switcher clone setup to be had in a modeler, but there isn't (in none of them). The closest I came was when using Guitar Rig along with Energy XT back in the days, but the setup was quite messy. Personally, I'd use any additional pages for adjustments only, so I could quickly select blocks and possibly program snapshots, too. -

All that hasn't got anything to do with latency, it's just about CPU performance. -

Now, if these are rugged enough, that's a very decent price. -

I think you can even stack the RJMs and have them communicate. €2,455 per unit isn't exactly what I'd call a no-brainer, though. -

I would partially agree, but personally, I hate switching between modes, banks and what not while playing. I'd rather prefer to get away with more "pedal estate" and have an additional row of switches. What I also would've wished for with the Floor/LT was a 10-snapshot and a 5-stomp/5-snapshot mode. Would've likely used the latter most of the time. I still don't understand why these don't exist, especially as there's a 10-stomp mode. -

Well, not in an all-in-one-box. Add an external MIDI controller and at least the Helix and the Axe FX would do. -

Nah, it's all about the CPU power. In the Helix, apart from a few blocks (such as the pitch shifting affairs) nothing is adding latency, so you can stack blocks up until the wazoo. 32 gain blocks in series will cause exactly the same latency as no blocks at all. This issue isn't about CPU limitations or latency at all. As said, I was running into stomp limits all the time with the Floor. -

I would've absolutely loved a second page of stomp assignments. Was constantly running out of them with the Floor. Now that I downscaled to a Stomp it's not that much of an issue anymore (due to it's vastly reduced function on my board), but I wouldn't mind, though. Main reason for me was that stomp assignments are by far the fastest way to get to a block and edit it, so ideally I want pretty much everything assigned to a switch, even if I don't actually switch things. -
HX Stomp switches translate to which XL/Floor/LT switches?
SaschaFranck replied to SaschaFranck's topic in Helix
Thanks, Yeah well, I know that they're not exactly hardcoded, but they sort of are, though. In all other modes but plain stomp mode (snapshot snapshot/stomp, preset, etc.) switches 1 and 7 are reserved and can't be user assigned (as you will certainly know). I'm just asking because I might want to share some patches with users of larger units. So, to conclude: Snapshots stay the same (just the snapshot number is relevant) and switches 1-3 transfer to switches 1-3, so you need to enter 10-stomp mode on the larger units to see switch 1. And fwiw, sort of unrelated but still sort of related: Why isn't there an option to flip between modes on the Stomp without sacrificing an external switch (or bowing down, which doesn't count...)? Given that there's plenty of units on the market allowing you to do various things when pressing two switches simultaneously, this could very well be possible on the Stomp as well. Could be like: Pressing switches 1+2 would flip between whatever preset mode and stomp/snapshot mode, pressing switches 2+3 would flip between stomp and snapshot mode. Maybe time for another Ideascale visit... -
Title almost says it all. I'd simply like to know which switches the ones on the Stomp translate to when you're loading a Stomp patch into one of the larger units. My wild guess would be 1-3 but as in some modes 1 and 7 are reserved for patch/bank up/down on the larger units, I could as well imagine it'd be 2-4 or even 8-10.

Please describe your exact setup. Which program used for recording? Which Ins are you selecting there? And which outs? And what are the USB return settings on your Helix? And do other sounds played back from your PC sound fine through the Helix? You should defenitely not need another interface (aka soundcard) for recording what's coming out of the Helix, it's doing a most excellent job for that purpose.

Here's Mr. Cordy playing a TONEX capture of a Dumble previously owned by Joe Bonamassa. IMO this sounds as much as the real deal as it gets (and yeah, sure, what Cordy plays always sounds great, but I tried to not care about that aspect too much). I've been playing through some Dumble clones myself already (never owned one, though, but it was my plan to save some money for a Fuchs - then modeling reared its ugly head) and have a sweet spot for players like Ford and Carlton, so I'd consider myself being rather familiar with these kinda tones. And I can't say I heard much better Dumble tones anywhere (even if some Kemper profiles of Michael Britt and some of Fractal's Dumble models sound great). Anyway, I guess all I'm saying is that the TONEX capturing seems to work extremely well - which is what pretty much everybody else says, too.

That'd be my bet, too. Excellent video, though. -

Did you actually click the link provided two posts above yours? In case you didn't, now is the time... -
That's not true, there's an editor for the FM3 as well (and always has been). https://www.fractalaudio.com/support

Only have a german link, maybe it's switching to english automatically when you click on it? https://helixessentialsde.simplybook.it/v2/?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=CPC&utm_campaign=HelixEssentials#book

Got an external footswitch around somewhere? You could assign it to control at least some most basic switching (like rhythm/lead).

Gotta say "no" as well. Steve Vai is only able to speak for himself and the tones he needs. In case these are *exactly* the tones you want as well, then more power to him, but for pretty much all other cases, there's exactly one valid opinion on tone, namely yours. Sure, it might as well be affected by your environment, so in case you needed to deliver certain tones to play some gigs, then there might be some "experts" on those kinda tones, but even in that case, it's still absolutely crucial how things feel with your guitars, under your fingertips, in the context of the folks you're playing with, etc. So ultimately, the one to decide whether a tone suits your needs, is still you.
