So you're saying the fix is to be constantly tethered to my computer? I've never used workbench, don't want to. I want to play. Can I just go in once and fix them to the onboard JTV model itself, and not have to have it saved as a patch on the hd500? Even so, what if I then want to audition new sounds with the tone all the way up? are my top strings gonna pop my head off? pain in the arse all the way around. This was NOT an issue with v1.9. Thanks anyway. I'm gonna try to rollback to 1.9 ( which is it's own pain in the lollipop- 1.9 only works on my XP work computer, I have a vista pc at home but that will only run 2.0 or 1.8 NOT 1.9. And Monkey won't even run on my main Mac...) . I'll let you know how it goes. JTV>VDI>HD500>L6>DT25

Serious Bug In Workbench And Jtv
jegler replied to guilhordas's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
With v2.0 i got the same error mssg as guilhordas, but I reinstalled and that went ok, but now my high E and B string are like half the volume of my other strings - across all models. But wait - I have most of my patches saved with the JTV model and the tone set from 50-70% (all models just sounded harsh to me at 100%). If I set the tone to 100%, the string volume discrepancy goes away, but now I'm back to harshville and when I roll the tone back down, no top strings. Arrgg! This was NOT the case w/v1.9. I played a number of gigs before the "update" and everything sounded fine. I tried re-installing 2.0 but no help. Does anyone know if rolling back to v1.9 will fix this? I'm afraid of the Line6 Monkey now. -
Here's what I know from experience. There are lots of things to be done to mitigate the level discrepancies. Mostly they involve turning down the really loud models to better match the really quiet models. This would be really the end of the story right there EXCEPT that your two main tools for that job (Amp Volume and Mixer Volume) begin to affect tone when used to extremes. I've found that plus or minus 7 on the mixer is about as far as you want to go before coloring your tone. Next, you can't go below about 30 on the Amp Volume before sucking tone. And that makes it so that even when you compare quiet models that are at +7 mixer and 100 volume are still way puny compared to loud models at -7 mixer and 30 Amp Volume. If you're using this for the studio it doesn't even matter, but for live it means that you nessecarily have to either never use the really loud models (Marshalls, F-ball, Line6), or never use the really quiet models (Vox, HiWatt). That sucks balls IMHO.

Can you elaborate on this? The DT25 is itself a cabinet and tech support told me that the DT25's DI does not have cabinet modeling; cab has to come from the hd500.

OK - this is a shot in the dark: Is there some sort of equivalency scale between the hd500 channel volume and the mixer volume? y'know like "+- 10 on the channel volume = +-4dB on the mixer volume" Reason I ask is this: I'm trying to make this my live rig. I have about 20 patches I need through the night. I want pretty much the same relative levels comin outta my amp as is comin out of the PA via the DT's D.I. But whenever I set levels by ear through the amp I then get wildly quiet/loud differences from the D.I. and vice versa. It's driving me crazy. This is JTV>VDI>HD500>L6>DT25 in low volume mode using full models AND cab sim from the HD500. I monitor the DI through a channel on my studio board into my studio speakers. And the DT I monitor with the amp about 12' away and Master set to @1:30 o'clock. All my level changes are done on the HD500. Tech guy said the DI is the same signal that goes to the DT's speaker, so I shouldn't be getting these differences, right? Am I missing something? Please help, I love the individual sounds but these level discrepancies between the DT speaker and the DT DI are killing me.

Yeah, I have to say that setting up my Dream Rig has been fraught with frustrations. Mostly over the level discrepancies inherant in the amp models of the HD500. I have also been searching for a primer on getting the entire rig working, in my case for live performances. Still searching, but I can tell you that some problems (such as the level discrepancies) are insurmountable. I mean, take the jcm800 model: loud as hell. now compare with the HiWatt clean model: super puny. even adjusting with patch volume and mixer settings, doesn't resolve, because extreme settings in either case negatively colors the tone. So if you're using the rig for live situations, you may be faced with the prospect of being unable to use either the really loud models, or the really quiet models. Freakin bummer. Other than that pretty major drawback - am getting good tones live, but have had to be super duper vigilant about keeping the volume under control. My dt-25 is loud as f*ck, even in LVM or in full volume while keeping patch channel volume down. I plan on compiling a primer myself and posting on my label's website. stay tuned....

Not sure what you mean on this - are you talking pans or volumes? the mixer volume is not percentage, just + or - from zero. Also, how does one mute channel B? I want to follow your advice exactly, but am stuck on the semantics of this recomendation. Thanks for your advice.

Acoustic Tones Via Dream Rig. Is It Possible?
jegler replied to GeeTah's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
SO the fx loop puts out a full bandwidth signal provided one doesn't insert an amp model? cool trick. -
The Best My Dream Rig Has Sounded ! Great Tip
jegler replied to kmcnair1's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
could you share some of your specific numbers? are you full volume or LVM? I've been using LVM with the full pod models and keeping the master on the amp at @ 1:30 o'clock. So far it's ok, but not blown away like I'd hoped... Thanks for sharing- -
Well that explains a lot. As disappointing as that is, (There are a number of old posts that needed updating or were just erroneous) I can live with that. Thanks for the explanation.

If I do a Google search for, say, "hd500 carry case" or "dream rig problems" I get many hits that I can then go investigate, but I can never "login" to respond or interact with those posts. Even though I'm already logged in. If I do a search of those exact terms from within the Line 6 forums I get "no results" on pretty much anything I type in. What the heck? This happens on my Mac at home and on my PC at work. Obviously I can start a new topic, but I simply cannot reply to other peoples posts, and the content seems to be pretty wan. Pretty useless.
