  1. The bias adjust on my DT25 is tucked under the speaker magnet necessitating the chassis being pulled. Anyone have detailed instructions on how to pull that off? Also, what are other users experience with tube longevity? After about 80-90 hours of usage, I've had two tube sets go bad on me. (EH EL84)
  2. Thanks Tbone. This from Line 6 "The tech bulletin 059 for the bad transformers was only for the DT50 amplifiers. All DT25's have good power transformers and do not need tech bulletin 059."
  3. Hey, does anybody know the manufacture date/serial number range on this run of DT's? I have a DT25 that had to be sent back shortly after purchase due to bad tubes. Before the warranty runs out (next month!) I want to check against this transformer issue. Thanks much for everyone's input
  4. Yeah, I should have mentioned that I'm running in LVM mode. Which means I have to use the full models. Lemme just insert a quick complaint to Line 6 here: I HATE the fact that you can't monitor the DT's D.I. in full volume mode with the standby switch on. How do you guys level your patches or even practice with that situation? FVM is really loud on my amp, even with major tweaking on the POD. Trying to get a good board sound while the DT's blastin sucks. Leveling patches? I have a wife and kids for pity's sake. I kinda feel "forced" to use LVM, which means I have a totally different setup than a FVM user and can't achieve a lot of the tricks talked about in these forums. Poop.
  5. great info, but nobody's mentioned the setup>output setting. when the DT's plugged in with L6 cable, HD500 defaults to "combo", but that setting makes the acoustic/direct sounds or any thing coming out of the XLR quite poopy. the "studio direct" setting sounds great with the XLR but poopy with the DT. Am I missing something? I bet I am. What is it, please.
  6. I split the electric guitars and the acoustic guitars by placing an FX loop on the acoustic patches and running a 1/4" fx send cable to the PA, while the electric patches go to the DT25 (which also goes to the PA via DI) There is a problem tho: when I'm in an acoustic patch, my DT buzzes like it's got an un-terminated cable plugged in. Which maybe it is what with an fx loop send and no return? No, I don't think that's it. Anyone know of a solution?
  7. I've yet to find a decent amp setting on the DT25 that gives a very good acoustic sound. Anyone have any JTVacoustic>DT tones they'd be willing to share??
  8. I use full amp HD500 and LVM on the DT25. Pre's on the HD500 into full volume DT is just too frikken loud and squirrely for me. Maybe when I retire out to the country, I'll take the time to iron out some full vol patches, but for now it sound pretty good.
  9. I use a high quality 30' xlr cable and it works ok. I think. I have had many gremlins in my dream rig. many were definitely not the L6 connection, but some: who knows? If you got the $ get the AES/EBU cable, if not go high quality mic cable and keep your fingers crossed. I absolutely hate that the Line 6 cable is only available in 20' and 50' ($60 and $80 respectively). I play on small to medium sized stages usually and 30' is right in the "Goldilocks Zone" Line 6: Please make a 30 or 35 foot AES/EBU cable!! I would buy it. 20's too short and 50 footers are a pain and short-lived.
  10. I alternate: solo shows I stick to the stereo XLR outs on the POD and with my band I crank up the DT25
  11. Atta fellah oehman, right now I don't have a JTV as mine was sent in for replacement, but as soon as I get it I'm loading your patches. Thanks so much for sharing, I'll let you know how it turns out...
  12. Just my two cents: Right after purchase, I started having various intermittent, intentionally unreproducible ticky tack noises coming from the JVM (although I wasn't sure at the time) that eventually coupled with the tubes going out in my brand new DT25 all the while paired with the left scroll button on the HD500 not working 60% of the time. This culminated, eventaully, in the return of the DT25 for warranty repair, sending the JTV back twice for warranty repairs that failed and eventually led to a replacement JTV. The Line 6 support guys were all cool and responsive and all, and I think everything is going to shake out OK in the end (except for the damn HD500 button), but it does lend a bit of credence to the "cheap poorly made crap" notion. (Although I wouldn't exactly call the DR "cheap") It all seems robust and all, and I have a 11 year old POD live XT that still works fine (except for the display: some drunk chick poured a Captain & Coke all down in it) I have two bean PODs that I've kinda abused, but are still tickin. My Variax 700 is one of my favorite guitars: super comfortable, totally well built, never had a lick of trouble with it. Here in this global economy, manufacturers like Line 6 probably swap parts suppliers and assembly contractors and, who knows, a poorly managed Chinese factory with over-worked employees might have won the bid in recent years. Don't know. DR still sounds kick-lollipop, though. I just hope I can expect the reliability/longevity that I paid for.
  13. Oh and another thing, oehman, on the chart you noted: Make sure mixer is panned 33% L & 33%R SET INPUTS TO 1=VARIAX OR GUITAR. 2=SAME Are you running a stereo DT rig? If so: you lucky bastard! If not: shouldn't A be panned center and B muted? I found that setting either of the inputs to "same" created a weird overlap of signals as opposed to setting inputs to one or the other. tell me more.
  14. Oh, yes the model volume discrepancies. I know that frustration. And even when you get them ironed out on the POD, you add in the DT and the levels are out of whack on that, and then you factor in the differences in the JTV models and the whole thing is a reeeel pain. The chart from oehman gave me a crazy idea: why couldn't we aggregate a data base of patches/setlists/bundles/JTVbanks/and DT settings charts that address the level discrepancies inherent in the components of the DR. I would think that most DR users play live and as such would necessarily need to "standardize" volume levels across patches, specifically when all three components are hooked up. This database would give new (and old) users a solid place to start and would save maybe hundreds of work hours hunched over gear and freeing us up to do important things like rocking out and voting in city council elections. oehman: please please upload your setlists and jtv banks that you've leveled out. not as charts but workbench and HDedit files. The JTV banks would be particularly helpful. you could save me and others soo much time. You'd be a hero to many. I just spent like 4 full afternoons just getting 4 patches (each representing the four default amp models on the DT) to behave when using both the speaker out and the DI out in LVM mode with the DR. Although I had to deviate from the A/AB and pent/tri settings that accompanied the default amp models. I made the models low in volume so I could crank up the DT's master. Dream Rig patches.zip Here's my attempt to level the strat bank in v2.1 Spank vol fix v2.1.bnk.zip Remember to compress files before sending, you cant upload .bnk or .h5e files directly to this forum for some reason. Thanks for the chart, that's some hard-core dedication right there.
  15. Yeah I'm in support of the dedicated DR forum. I just had to over haul all my patches/settings with my DR after finally realizing that all the info I got from piecing together bits on the separate forums was not really the full picture when incorporating it all together in a DR. Just one example: I used to normalize volume settings for my DR by just monitoring either the DI on the DT or the xlr out on the POD. But then come Friday night when I have the amp cranked up in a club, my stage volume is all over the place. So I'd go home and turn the amp speaker on and adjust my patches with the DT crankin. But then at the next gig, even though my stage volume is even, the drummer says his in-ear mix (which comes from the DT's DI) is all over the place. hmmm wtf. Turns out that the A-A/B and the pent/tri switches have a big impact on the level coming out of the speaker, but not necessarily in the same way they affect the DI output. Tones and settings that sound fine across different patches on the POD do not sound the same when coming from a DT. And certainly you can't incorporate the huge majority of the HD500 tones and settings when you're hooked into a DT. Major tweaking required and only done successfully if you had a knowledge base dedicated to this specific combo of gear.
  16. took arislaf's string balance mod with volume adjustments to all five models and changed the 1st two positions to masonite body as per another user's recommendation. SpankBank-v2.1fix.bnk.zip
  17. bleah - I'll fix that tonight - thanks for the quality control...
  18. Hey, I hate to trouble you, but could you offer more details on that? I have a real mess with my computer situation. Monkey won't run on my PPC Mac, and I did all my flashware/firmware stuff on an old work computer (PC) which has since taken a dump. I have workbench installed on a crappy PC laptop, which I use to backup my hd500 presets, but I cannot connect to the internet with that computer. I have a newer computer at work now, but it doesn't have Monkey or any line6 software installed. I could also use my parents' intel Mac in a pinch... I looks like the jtv flash 1.9 download is a .vxf file. Workbench downloads are either .exe or .dmg and only offer v2.01 or 2.1. Do i need an earlier version of workbench to do the rollback on the guitar? Me gots some confusion... :( Thanks
  19. I have a beautiful black 700 that I used/use in the studio ALL the time. I love the look, the feel and the performance. Probably the best feeling instrument I've owned. And the models are all pretty good. The acoustics are definitely better on the JTV. My JTV 69s has a great feeling neck and tremolo system, but there's a lot I really Don't like about it. I can't play with 9 gauge strings anymore (too squirrely) - and even with 10's the high E pops out of the string nut. It also tends to roll off the neck when doing high E bends. I don't like the position of the volume knob - I'm always bangin into it. Hate the headstock look, but whatever. I happened to love the look of no pickups on the 700. Absolutely hate the fact that if you take all the strings off at once the bridge and tremolo block pops violently off the bridge posts and causes the tremolo block (which has the piezo pcb mounted on it) to smash into the wood of the guitar. I just got it back from repair for that very reason. While it was out, I just plugged in the 700 and did my live shows without missing the 69 at all. Oh and the factory installed jtv flash v2.1 - but I am rolling back to v1.9 - the strat sounded soooo wimpy with no sustain and the volume control is now "tapered" which sucks for volume swells, which is a big part of my trick set.
  20. Yeah so my jtv got back today from the service center and it seems to have been healed of its persistent crackling and dropouts, (yay!) but I see that it had flash memory v2.1 installed. Rrrrgh. I asked that you leave it as 1.9. I didn't like v2.0 and I do not like v2.1. while the popping between models has been cleared up, the levels between models is too varied, the strat is, like, super wimpy with no sustain, and the worst is the volume control. Waaaay too "tapered". Volume swells are impossible. First, I would ask if there are tweaks I can perform in workbench that will rectify these issues. (which is a pain, I have to haul my rig to work after hours and get on a computer there) If so, please give detailed instructions on how. I need these changes to be a permanent mod of the jtv. Second: please tell me if and how I can roll back to 1.9 Thank you, Jordan
  21. Unfortunately there is some disturbing noise between 3.-20 sec very hearable. I have had something similar when I recorded years ago with a cheap PC with a cheap audio interface (in my case it was the power supply of the PC which generates that type of noise). wolbai Ha! My wife said the same thing about the "disturbing noises". They're intentional - its some exhalation noise and various percussion being run through some serious distortion. I wanted to make it "grungy" but maybe it just sounds f*cked up . She said it was "distracting" so maybe I should re-think it's inclusion... Anyway thanks for the props and Rock at All Costs. Jordan
  22. Just finished this - my first track since getting my dream rig. captured via variax jtv 69>VDI>HD500>L6>DT25>DI>MPA tube preamp>Mac. this took care of every thing except the drums and vocals, and I doubled the bass part with a synth. So, 70% dream rig. I actually find that mic-ing the dt25 sounds a bit "smoother" than the DI, but I got a wife and two kids with a bedtime and the dt25 is loud as f**k https://soundcloud.com/jordan_egler/let-go Wolbai - is that Little River Band?
  23. I use the amp's verb just to free up a block on the hd500. You can save different knob positions from the pod so different patches have diff amounts of verb.
  24. I rolled back to 1.9 and my high strings actually sound like they're on the same guitar as the other four strings, so 1.9 it is.
