Will the Line 6 FBV 3 work with Line 6 Spider IV 75?
01GT replied to curtms's topic in FBV Controllers (MKI / MKII / 3)
Per the above "compatibility chart", the answer you your question is 'yes'. However, I believe you only will get red LEDs, and not the assignable colors. The LED colors are for Firehawk 1500 and Spider V. Let us know how it goes for you. -
FBV3 bank/program change on a desktop pc
01GT replied to psycotik's topic in FBV Controllers (MKI / MKII / 3)
If you are using FBV3 with MIDI, are you using the "FBV Control" software application? (this is totally different from the "Spider V Remote" application) This software download is intended for users using MIDI w/ FBV. It is available in the software downloads: To get it the Downloads section, select >>> Hardware: "FBV3"; Software: "Line 6 FBV Control"; OS: "Win 10" (or as applicable to you) -
FBV3 bank/program change on a desktop pc
01GT replied to psycotik's topic in FBV Controllers (MKI / MKII / 3)
You would use the desktop PC (using the Remote app) to establish your desired banks of A/B/C/D presets. Then when actually playing, you could change between banks, or between A/B/C/D presets within a given bank, all with your foot without ever missing a note or having to sit down or fiddle with the amp. Yes, you can also do the same with either the control knob on the amp, or using Remote on the PC ... but, the FBV3 adds a significant layer of convenience. I was initially hesitant to get the FBV3 based upon its relative high cost along with knowing it does not add any effects, etc. That being said, I was very glad I did, though, also adding the external expression pedal which allows the FBV3's on-board pedal as a high-quality dedicated wah pedal, and the external expression pedal a dedicated volume pedal. It was not too long after having it setup that I was so GLAD that I got the FBV3 setup, It quickly became indispensable for me. -
I have a Spider V 240HC mk ii: I completely agree with the effects-loop comment above. Without an effects loop, it really kills the ability to add external effects. Yes, you can add additional effects directly through the guitar's signal path, but -- if you do -- that completely kills the usefulness of the GT10 cordless functionality. To me, the GT10 cordless is awesome. And because of the impact of losing "cordless", the thought of adding additional effects in series is completely off the table for me, and not even considered. Clearly, the Spider V design was intended to be an all-inclusive amp/effects solution which it actually does extremely well. I am sure that when designing Spider V, the Line 6 engineers never even considered that users might want to add a Pod Go on top of Spider V. Because the Spider V effects are so useful and also so extensive, Line 6 clearly was thinking that they could cut the "no effects loop" corner without users even missing it. Because the Spider V effects/functionality/tone is so good and so extensive -- for me -- I can live without the effects loop and still be a very happy Line 6 user/customer. But, without a doubt, having an effects loop would definitely be very nice and would allow greater functionality. I suspect that adding an effects loop to the eventual Spider VI would be the primary reason for Spider V owners to upgrade, along with Bluetooth. And maybe that has been the Line 6 marketing roadmap all along with regards to Spider V to Spider VI ... (?) Additionally, the idea of adding new effects to Spider V is a brilliant idea. Having new software patches to add effects would absolutely create a buzz and additional interest/publicity for the Spider V line. Boy, if the Line 6 engineering/marketing folks are reading this, I think "Tikimug" with that idea can safely say to them: "ummm, you're welcome".

Great post here from GTRman100. And, yes, using the Remote app is night and day in ease. Without it, the real power of the amp's configurability and presets is still bottled up.
-
Since you have the available Windows PC, why not just connect the amp directly to the Windows PC ... and then call it a day? The PC interface is better than the smart phone (IMO) anyway, and then you can just use a common printer cable, basically. So simple. If you are worried about using up USB slots on the PC, then get a USB "splitter hub". USB 3.0 Type-A to USB Type-B M/M

Call/contact Line 6 Tech Support. Let us know what happens, please.

With the failures being seen, can you go back to the amp's version 2.0.0?
-

What was the result of that? Is it something specific to AMD processors?
-
No, have not seen this. Are you saying it freezes after adjusting any slider for any effect, or just for "Amp" setting sliders? I assume you tried the usual re-boot, remove/re-install, etc. stuff with no help?
-
Yes, that is correct. Basically, the Remote program is making an external query that is not being answered. So the patch fix to use the free Fiddler program as the intermediary to satisfy the Remote query. There are a few steps to do it, but it is not that complicated. There are a lot of posts on that, and the work around does work. Good luck.

First off, I want to say that the Spider V 60 is a killer amp. Killer. That being said, though ... and this is just my opinion ... there is no substitute for 12" speakers. Electric guitars and 12" speakers were made for each other. This is why Line 6's Spider V top-of-the-line combo is not a 2x10 version. So, yeah, going to a 2x12 combo even at low volumes would be way better than 1x10. It is not about power. It is about the speakers. Very worthwhile. I feel very spoiled being able to have my 240HC drive a (not Line 6) 2x12 cabinet w/ EVM 12L speakers in stereo (with the 240HC speakers "off"). As for a Spider 6?? Spider V came out in 2017 (4 years ago) with "Mk ii" July/2019. Spider V is still a strong seller, and rightfully so. Any Spider 6 offering is at least 2-3 years away, my guess. Additionally, as we all know with Line 6, it is also best to wait a year or two for them to work the bugs out before diving in.

The amp has 128 presets (32 banks of 4) -- period. The FBV3 has no presets at all, and is only a controller for the amp. However, using Remote, you can save all of the existing pre-programmed presets into "MyTones" in Remote so they are always available to you, and can be recalled instantly whenever you want. Remote is not limited to 128 or any number; you can have thousands of presets there if you want (I believe....). As such, with all of the pre-programmed presets moved in to "MyTones" that leaves the full 128 amp presets available to program as you wish, along with still having all of the pre-programmed presets one click away in Remote, if you want -- effectively 256 presets. As I stated, you can save more than 128 into "MyTones" -- so using that methodology, the Spider V presets are, basically, limitless. To be very clear, though, the amp itself is limited to 128. Remote has no limit.
-
The amp does not have "channels" like other amps. What it does have are 32 banks of 4 presets (128 presets total). The last bank (#32) of 4 is empty. All of the presets are fully editable and savable. Every preset has access to all of the amps, cabinets, effects, etc. -- the selection is massive, and is the same for each preset. On the amp for each preset, you can select between the "Amp" & "FX" buttons to change the functionality of the amp's knobs. Additionally on the amp, you can use the selector knob under the display to drill down into the millions of available amps, cabinets, effects, effect parameters, and a lot more. Using the "selector knob" can be slow and tedious, so you have the option of using the "Spider V Remote" app instead which is wayyyyy faster and better than the using only the amp itself. To make sure you are getting the right thing, first go to the Line 6 "software" page. On the software page, you need to make THREE selections for "Hardware", "Software", and "OS" at the top of the page -- then press the "Go" button. For hardware, select "Spider V 60"; for software, select "Spider V Remote", for OS, select as applicable to you. Make sure your selections are correct. Line 6 "software" page >>>> Line 6

Yeah, that is my take. I run my 240 HC into a 2x12 cab loaded with EVM 12Ls with the 240HC's speakers switched OFF. Sounds great. As in "really great", actually. The only "however" is that -- at least I think so -- it significantly changes the sonic palette compared to what others are hearing with their standard Line 6 setups, as such many of the others' patches are really only good for a starting point and not immediate use ... to my ears, anyway. That being said, the Spider V's ability to build up presets w/ Remote 2.00 is just sick (in a VERY good way, I mean) so that I use my own presets and not anything that came with the amp or downloaded, except some clean tones that only needed tweaking. The downside to that, though, is I had to spend a lot of time developing my own presets. Well worth it, though. Tone city.

Like was said above, there are a lot of different metronome selections that are all fully adjustable. And there are a lot of different drum loops with lots of varying tempos. It is not just three or four drum loops, and that is it -- way more than that. But, please post what you end up deciding on. I know I am interested.

There are posts in this forum that refer to the G10T with the ability to hold only 1 hour charge at most, etc. Then there are others that have had the exact opposite experience. For me, even when plugging it in with less than a full charge, I have yet for the G10T to ever go out on me. And starting with a fully charged "three bars", I can REALLY play continuously for as along as I want -- Plugging it back in to the amp when done after 2.5 hours of continuous playing, it will still show "two bars" of charge left. Maybe I am just benefitting from purchase-timing as I started down the Line 6 Spider V path in early 2021, so ... maybe Line 6 has been behind the scenes fixing issues in their gear before I bought mine (?). Also, I believe my G10T was purchased just as Line 6 was rolling out their "fire fix", so mine was in the initial units to have the new firmware OEM-installed, as well. I don't if those are factors or not in my G10T 's operation. So ... what has been your experience with the G10T?

In true Line 6 fashion, the Spider V offers a total of EIGHT wah-pedal choices. I use the "Weeper". But I am curious what are others' favorites. Which do you like the best? Any you don't like?
-
So you are saying you have this volume-pedal issue whether using the FBV3's on-board pedal or if plugging in an external EX1? For what it is worth, I have the FBV3/EX1 and don't have this problem at all (either using the FBV3 pedal or EX1, the volume pedal works fine for me) so something is definitely wrong. I never performed any calibration on anything. When I went to hook up the EX1 initially, I thought I would have to do something, but the FBV3 instantly re-configured to "wah-only" with the external EX1 acting as a volume pedal, and configures back when unplugged. The current FBV3 firmware version is v1.02 (shows up on the FBV3 display). Besides the latest Spider V 240 firmware, does your FBV3 have this most up-to-date firmware too? If so, maybe even try re-loading the FBV3 firmware anyway. Also, there is a "Line 6 FBV Control" app. I am not sure if this app would help you, but maybe (?). If there is nothing here to help, you likely need to call Line 6 who I am pretty sure can help straighten this out.

For me, I have been a Spider V 240HC user since early 2021. Getting a new Windows machine that would not launch Remote 2.00 since being on 2.00 was traumatic for me. I had to spend a bunch of time reading the many forum posts on this forum and elsewhere so that I could patchwork a workable solution together, along with taking the time to post a step-by-step solution thread in this forum to spread the word. Additionally, I have taken the time to respond to other users' issues and questions to help them out as well as best I could. Then comes this new "no Internet" issue. Regardless of any past user issues, this suddenly became a user issue for me only a few weeks ago, and based upon the concurrent onslaught of threads on the topic, I assumed that many others (likely all others, I thought) were in this same "recent boat". Thank God for your solution to that issue over the weekend which worked -- I could have survived without the Internet connectivity, but did not want to. Additionally, I only intend in operating in a Windows environment operating with a DAW, too. So, anything that compromises (or worse) that is purely unacceptable. And I, myself, feel that I have dodged two significant speed bumps in my mere few months as a Spider V user. That being said, right now, I am operating at 100% functionality, and I love what my Spider V 240HC does along with the FBV3/EX1 and G10T cordless. So ... bottom line here, bro ... I violently agree with you. And when is Line 6 going to recognize some of this and -- at least -- send you and I a t-shirt, or better yet a Variax to beta-test?? Even though I am catching up a bit, you are clearly way ahead of me; I just wish you were my next door neighbor, so I could badger you with countless "how are doing this ...?" questions; oh, you would hate me. LOL

Okay, first off ... just to be very clear here I don't work for Line 6, and I have a different Spider V than you, so just take these comments for whatever they are worth ... Looking at the Spider V 20, it has "16 tonally-diverse amp and effect presets", so clearly you don't have the full complement of mk ii presets -- I did not know that there was only 16 presets on your amp, and I also did not know there was not a display and "selector" knob on the amp either. Regardless, I am going to "assume" that the 16 presets that you do have are 16 from the larger list of presets. Without the display and knob, it seems using the Remote 2.00 application would be especially critical for you (I have the 240HC, and I find using Remote indispensable even with a display and the "selector" knob). I am going to make an "assumption" here in that the the Spider V 20 and Spider V 240 HC workings with Remote are basically the same. If so ... then in Remote, you "should" see the name of the preset that you are on that you could match against the list by name, thus allowing you to know which of your presets are "artist presets". Also in Remote, you could then download any of the other presets (or any of the other countless tones) that you don't have as part of the initial 16 (e.g., 25 C & D) (?). Additionally in Remote and beyond this topic, you "should" also be able to make lots of alterations to your effects and presets in a far more powerful, faster and manageable tool than just by using the amp itself. Hopefully there is something here that can help you ...

In all fairness, the "no Internet" issue is only a few weeks old ... and there is an excellent workaround/fix identified in this thread that restores all of the functionality. So, to me, "wasted my money ... again" sounds a little extreme, but it is your money and your opinion.
